My 14 year old has had a fever since Monday night. Last night it got up to 103.7. I was able to bring it down to 101 with meds. I took him in today and he tested positive for Flu A. Our flu shots are scheduled for 10/27!
My DH came home exhibiting similar symptoms to my DS, so I’m thinking he probably has it too. He got his flu shot last Monday, but I guess it hasn’t had time to take effect yet.
Hoping they keep their germs to themselves. Buckle up everyone. They are predicting a big flu season.

That sounds miserable. I hope he starts feeling better soon and that your DH has a mild case snd you can avoid it. We got our shots last week snd hope to avoid it. I’m hearing that it’s going around here as well and it sounds particularly nasty this year.

My DS has had a HORRID cough for the last week. Coughing to the point of vomiting. Fever too. We gave him mucinex and steam breathing and asthma inhaler and after a week he’s finally turning the corner.
So far, he’s the only one. We don’t get the flu shot in our family usually so we’ll see how it plays out.

Oh no! I hope they feel better soon and I hope that you don’t get it. My ODS got his shot a few days ago and I just got my flu shot today. Still need DH and YDS to get theirs soon.

I hope seaexplorer that you consider this is the year for flu shots.. 40,000 people a year died from it (pre covid) I am asthmatic and opted for the 10 year pneumonia shot a few years back in lieu of the flu shot. So far so good. In “bad” flu years, I’ve never gotten it and I’m in classrooms with germ filled kids all day. My kids get a nasty “cold” which could be flu every few years. We are really in tune with what’s up when we start coughing/sniffles and make sure we are being safe with fevers and all the ick that flu entails. If a fever is high for more than a few days we contact the doctor. I’m pretty sure we’ll be ok this season even if we get it even without the vaccine.

We have a good chance of a bad flu season, so I did get a flu shot. Hopefully it helps.

The pneuomococcal pneumonia vaccine has nothing to do with the flu. Or with regular pneumonia for that matter.

My pharmacist at CVS and my parents at Walgreens both said that it takes 2 weeks for the shot to start protecting, just in case anyone wondered.
I'm a sub teacher so I'm exposed to a lot of kids in any given week. I got my flu shot a week ago. Around here, they're recommending getting by the end of October. I've gotten the flu shot for at least the last 16 years. Still had the flu 3x though and felt like I was dying. 2x I was in bed for almost 2 weeks. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been for me without the shot!
Hope everyone stays healthy!

The flu shot was to help prevent pneumonia if I get the flu since (at the time, and still) asthmatics are more likely to get pneumonia if they have the flu.

Well DH had a 102 fever this morning. He is hoping he can get a telavisit with our primary and then maybe pop in quickly for a flu test.
Our oldest plays varsity football and we only have 4 home games. My DH is my son’s biggest fan and supporter. DH had Covid about a month ago and missed the fist home game and now he’s going to miss this Friday’s home game too. DH’s only sister was coming from Oklahoma to watch too and now that’s canceled. I’m so sad for him. Just hoping my oldest and I can stay flu free.

Last week a local high school made the news because 1400 kids were out with the flu after their homecoming weekend. It is hitting hard and fast this year.
Hope you avoid it and your DH and DS recover.

Just got my flu shot this morning.
I have a friend in GA who is terribly sick with Flu A and members of her family have it too. As of right now, I don't know anyone around me who has it. *fingers crossed*

I am hoping my 19 yr. old can get the flu shot and covid vaccine soon, but she has to arrange it around pratice, games, exams, so it's hard to schedule. We want to assume she will feel bad the next day so she doesn't take any chances.
I got my covid booster on Saturday, so had to wait a week to schedule the flu shot. I want to get it soon!

DD and I both got Covid boosters and flu shots last month. She had something a couple weeks ago but tested negative for Covid and for strep but still has a dry cough. Now this week I’m coughing up phlegm balls and have nasty sinus issues. Did a virtual visit and they’re like, “Eh, you’ve got bronchitis and sinusitis. Drink lots of fluids and rest.” They did want me to come in for a Covid test, but why? I’ve had this same thing many times before. What I have is definitely not Covid. Just goes to show you that no matter what you do there’s a lot of crud circulating right now.

I'm so sorry the flu is spreading in your home! I hope everyone is feeling well soon. Peas, if you are on the fence about getting your flu shot, this is a good year to get it! They are predicting a bad flu year based on what happened in Australia this year. And this year's flu shot includes protection for the dominant variant this year.

I had chills/aches/mild fever with my previous ones and am wondering what I'm in for. How was your reaction to this one and how did your reaction compare to your previous Covid shots?

Yes, we both got the new Pfizer booster. Other than a sore arm for a couple days neither one of us had any other reaction. I haven’t had any bad reactions to any of the Covid vaccines I’ve received.
