zztop11 ok.. thanks... ive read on cruisecritic that they were about the same... so i just went with that.. ive only sailed on carnival... FWIW everyone has an opinion I agree with what you read... I feel Carnival gets a bad rap. I've cruised them quite a bit and have never had anything but a great experience. The Glory holds a very special place in my heart. My son and I loved the Western Caribbean route, and the dates/prices etc of the Carnival Glory tended to always work for us when we were able to cruise. My guy is a bit of a travel snob, and we have done alot more Norwegian/ RC cruises in the last few years (well.. not covid years..) Honestly, I prefer Carnival to Norwegian, but, yes, Royal is fancier than both of them lol I was on the Symphony of the Seas in Feb 2020, and will be on Navigator in March 2023 (first post Covid cruise.) I've been on a good number of Carnival and RC ships. If I had kids along, totally would choose Carnival for their enjoyment. And, personally, I don't like other people's kids all that much, but the programs Carnival offers for them seems to keep them out of my spaces (lol) wayyyy better than Norweigan or RC does. Kids/teens focused dinner parties etc. For a fall NE cruise... I'd probably look for a smaller, more nimble ship. Definitely mid Oct or before.

alaska cruises from san francisco is going to be bumpy.. that coastal passage is one of the worse for swells and weather. leaving from vancover or even seattle will skip much of the rough seas.. also it is bumpier in spring.. than mid summer.

No tips from me, k suffer from serious motion sickness and I’m too scared to cruise. But, I did want to say congrats on doing what you want to do! Just a note, I suffer from awful motion sickness, too. I was fine on both cruises, Caribbean and Alaskan. I took Dramanine at 8 am and 8 pm, so I'd have a steady dose in my system. It was even a bit rough leaving Miami and I was fine. I had to keep a little extra caffeine in my system to offset the drowsiness, but I don't mind that! I can't even go to an Omni theater without Dramamine, that is how bad I am. The only time I did have a problem was in the theater on one of the ships. It was in the front of the ship and I could see the balcony edge above us moving. Nope! I just avoided the theater after that. It was a little bit of a bummer to miss shows, but there were bars with music and other things to do. The second ship was fine for me and we enjoyed shows every night. For a cruise I like to get the patch from my Dr. I think it works for 2-3 days at a time.

thundergal . He went on the NE/Canada Fall cruise out of NYC on the Norwegian Breakaway.. My brother and sister-in-law just returned from this exact cruise a few days ago. They were first time cruisers and really enjoyed it. It was really chilly at times but we live in the northeast so they expected and were prepared for it. i went on a Maine coast and harbors cruise on American Cruise Lines about 5 years ago. The food and service were great and the scenery was lovely, and I enjoyed certain aspects of the small ship (100 passengers) experience, but I was bored in the evenings because after the evening entertainment ended by 9:00 pm there was absolutely nothing to do. The average passenger age on that particular cruise was 75 and I am several decades younger, but was traveling with my mother who was 75 at the time.

We have cruised 14 times, 15th one is coming up on Dec 24. We mostly now cruise Celebrity. We have cruised on NCL, Royal and Carnival. We watch for deals for a travel agent that I found on FB. She post AMAZING deals. I got a 7 day Norwegian Fjords cruise with beverage pkg, wifi, gratuities and OBC for less than what we paid for a 4 day Carnival. I have booked with travel agents, directly with the cruise line and with Costco. juanita Can you share the name/Facebook information for the travel agent you like? I have a travel agent for flights, etc., but I don't think she did a good job for the cruise I am going on later this year. It's not really her focus. She does a lot of stuff for travelers who are divers. Thank you!
