The Republican attempts at both sides are tiresome, but the attempt at both sides of political violence is particularly offensive and false. Republican politicians have normalized, downplayed, whitewashed, overlooked and made excuses for violence to the extent that a higher percentage of Republicans believe political violence is acceptable. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/01/01/1-3-americans-say-violence-against-government-can-be-justified-citing-fears-political-schism-pandemic/www.newamerica.org/international-security/reports/terrorism-in-america/what-is-the-threat-to-the-united-states-today/www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/interactive/2021/domestic-terrorism-data/?itid=lk_inline_manual_14Gift article - no paywall wapo.st/3DL6YTCViolence is unacceptable whether from the left or right, period. But we can’t allow GOP leaders to get away with this false moral equivalency. They are evading their responsibility for their extremist rhetoric that all too often motivates extremist actions. Political violence in America is being driven primarily by the far right, not the far left, and the far right is much closer to the mainstream of the Republican Party than the far left is to the Democratic Party.
Violence from either side is unacceptable. Full stop. The Republicans need to condemn the attack on Speaker Pelosi's husband and leave out their buts, attempts to blame Democrats, victim blaming, snarky comments etc.

Absolutely. However, I don’t see it happening. They see any potential consequences of the dangerous state we’re in as collateral damage, and the degree of collateral damage it would take for them to act to change the current climate would horrify us all.
They’re totally fine with sacrificing their own, too - because liberals are not the only ones who are going to be injured and killed as a result of what they’ve created. They know this.

The response from republicans has been pretty gross. Donald trump Jr posted a pic of white mens underwear and a hammer saying “I have my Paul Pelosi costume ready.” That is just one of many disturbing comments that I have seen. And yet they blame Biden for not uniting the country…

It was a white man carrying a hammer and wearing a blood splatter shirt that said "where's Nancy?" 🤢 The business owner found it funny and declared the guy the winner of their contest. People are disgusting.

It could've been tamped down if the instigators of Jan 6 faced swift and harsh consequences, but coming up on 2 years later and the masterminds are roaming free to fan the flames of more violence. We have lawmakers (Sen Graham) who threaten there will be riots if Trump is arrested.

Gift article wapo.st/3NlRp7YViolence has become the norm for the MAGA crowd. The House Jan. 6 select committee presented voluminous evidence of violent threats directed at election workers. MAGA-inspired protesters have also shown up at school boards and other local government meetings to threaten public employees. These people are taking signals from MAGA leaders.
Americans should recognize that only one party has instrumentalized this sort of violence. The leftist who opened fire during a practice session for the annual Congressional Baseball Game was not incited by violent rhetoric among Democrats. And when a man attacked New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin, no Democratic officeholder cracked jokes about it. Instead, President Biden and other party leaders have swiftly and unequivocally condemned each act of violence regardless of the victim’s party, because violence is anathema to democracy.

When you’ve got right wing folks on this board saying “that’s what you get” with regards to political violence, any pretense that this is a both sides argument has to go out the window.
