11/25 update: We loved it. Put the fully cooked bird in the oven to warm for about 2 hours (12 min per lb) left the lid on the roaster while I heated up the sides and even made a gravy from the drippings ( I did cut it with chicken stock). Very moist. flavorful turkey that did NOT taste like lunch meat. A definite do again for us. The only draw back is it's hard to find one on the small side, but that's true of just about any whole bird.
__OP___
Has anyone tried it? I saw it on a deal site where it had good recommendations and purchased one today. While not cheap, it wasn't as expensive as ones we've tried in the past.
Thanksgiving is my least favorite meal of the year, and DH's favorite which means I try to find ways to make my life easier on the day - not cooking a bird I don't really like is one of them.
I'll report back on the 25th lol

I just bought one too. We've had them in past and liked them. My family doesn't hate turkey, but loves ham. I buy a smaller turkey and a bigger ham.

I just bought a Butterball smoked turkey at Aldi for $2.00/lb. I bought one last year, and it was pretty good. It's not as good as smoked turkey from a BBQ joint or from my brother's smoker, but it's still pretty good. I think I may have overcooked it last year (doublecheck if it needs to be cooked or just warmed up).

is it the whole turkey or just the turkey breast? Costco is selling the whole turkey. It's precooked and vacuum sealed.

is it the whole turkey or just the turkey breast? Whole turkey. Because there's just 4 of us we wind up wasting some of the meat, but I prefer the dark meat and refuse to just get a turkey breast. I checked Aldi on my way home out of curiosity and the turkey I would have bought was about half the price - worth the extra cost to me if the flavor is there.

LOL

I just bought a Butterball smoked turkey at Aldi for $2.00/lb. We buy the Butterball Smoked Turkey from Aldi every year and have been for probably about 15 YEARS! My family loves it. Being that it's a seasonal item, we buy 2 or 3 of them before they are gone. We'll have one on Thanksgiving and freeze the others to have during the year! It's got a nice smoky flavor without it being overpowering. It's precooked and in a vacuume sealed back. SOOOO EASY!

As I said earlier, it is not as good as smoked turkey from a BBQ restaurant or what my brother makes with his smoker, but I think it is good. It does remind me a little bit of deli smoked turkey--flavor, not texture. Is that a bad thing, LOL? Definitely NOT bologna, like one of the reviewers said. We had a regular turkey and a Butterball smoked turkey yesterday for an early Thanksgiving. I would say my family liked the regular turkey a little better.

DH just bought himself two pellet grills this year, one for home and another for the lake. I will be VERY surprised if he doesn’t want to smoke one himself for Thanksgiving. And Christmas. And New Years.

We've had the Costco smoked turkey at holidays for the last two years. Our family likes it and can't believe it comes from Costco.
My old neighbor's husband ordered the smoked turkey Oprah swears by. From Texas, I believe? He paid around $300 for it. They did a blind taste test and ended up liking the Costco turkey over the Oprah turkey.
It's on our list for our next Costco trip.

Has anyone had the Costco version and the Aldi/Butterball version to compare?

I bought the one from Sam's Club - I work for a deal website It was cheaper. Our readers have had mixed reviews, but my mom says they're great! - I'll keep you posted!

About how much does a smoked Costco turkey cost? This might be a great option for us this year.

I have NEVER thought of the taste being like lunch meat! Smoked meats are loved by some and not by others . My 4 kids, now adults never liked turkey but love the smoked ones! That being said, no one in my family is a picky eater.

About how much does a smoked Costco turkey cost? This might be a great option for us this year. I spent about 40 bucks for a smaller side one. This is in the midwest. Around $4 a lb. My old neighbor's husband ordered the smoked turkey Oprah swears by. From Texas, I believe? He paid around $300 for it. They did a blind taste test and ended up liking the Costco turkey over the Oprah turkey. That's insane. We have gotten smaller smoked turkeys from a place out of Texas and paid more than the 40 I paid Costco, but nowhere near 300! I won't even spend that much on the beef for our Christmas meal, and that's usually way more than the turkey.

I’m glad you all liked it! DH and I got a turkey from Costco last year, but this was the first time I suggested to my Mom that she try it this year. We had a small gathering of only 5 people, but everybody was very happy with it. I’m sure we will be making it again next year.
