I make a cranberry salad which bordered more on dessert than side (we use it for both) for Thanksgiving every year. It's what is requested by family when I'm not hosting the meal too. I even have the old clamp-on grinder that my Mema used to crush the cranberries, although i don't use it. I don't know that my great aunt Edith actually came up with it, but that's what we call it: Edith's Raw Cranberry Salad
While was purging before my recent move, I was going through a bag full of recipes that were in my Mema's kitchen. These two are relevant to this thread (yes, I kept them) :

My mother made 7-UP Salad for many years. It's from the 1970's! I made it for my kids in the '90's and they loved it! I also made it for my DH's 40th birthday celebration and so many people asked me for the recipe. They couldn't believe it had Jello in it! I just might make it this year! RETRO 7UP JELLO SALAD

I am in the small majority that love a good jello salad! I don't want one with vegetable in it though. I make a Orange Jello Salad with cottage cheese, cool whip, orange jello, mandarin oranges and pineapple that my sister and I love!! Sometimes I will use lime jello instead of the orange. My grandmother was a master of jello salads! She make several kinds and I always liked them unless she put nuts in. there is no place for nuts in jello!

My family used to make the ambrosia stuff with the jello, mini marshmallows, canned fruit salad, coconut and I don’t know what else. this was a Christmas dinner staple for me, growing up!! It was frozen, and was ALWAYS made/served in the same yellow rectangular Pyrex dish. I need to make it again. When I was a little kid, we always had a jello dessert called 'broken glass torte' that, as far as I can recall, had different colors of jello cut into pieces, stirred into whipped topping, with a graham cracker crust. Then chill or freeze- I can't remember which. When you cut into it, it looked like stained glass. I definitely want to make that one, too, although I do remember that it's a lot of work.

Would you mind sharing the recipe? I loved the jello salads my mom made when I was a kid. Would love to try one myself.
Cranberry Salad
1 6 oz package raspberry Jell-O 1 cup hot water 1 16 oz can whole cranberry sauce 1 13 ¼ oz can crushed pineapple, un-drained 2/3 cup port wine or fruit juice ½ cup chopped walnuts
Topping: Blend 6 oz cream cheese (softened) and 1 cup sour cream.
Dissolve Jell-O in hot water. Pour into 9x13 pan. Stir in other ingredients. Chill until firm then top with topping.
They don't make cans of pineapple that size anymore so I just wing it and then have a little extra to eat I use apple or cranapple for the juice.
Thank you so much!!!!

I can SEE that yellow Pyrex dish. Haha. yup! It wasn't 'right' unless it was served in the yellow Pyrex refrigerator dish. (although thinking about it now, how could my mom put it in the freezer, and risk it breaking, knowing what it's worth?!? ) As an aside, I have a set of the yellow, green, red & blue multi-colored Pyrex mixing bowls that I still use all the time. And I also have my mom's (or Grandma's, I don't remember which) cut glass dish which was always the 'cranberry sauce' dish at holiday dinners. I don't use it for anything except that, but even if it's canned (whole berry) cranberry sauce, it gets served in THAT dish, lol!!

One was for cranberries and one for olives. I don’t remember what my grandma used the larger ones for but honestly they are too heavy to pass.
