I am supposed to fly into RSW Thursday about noon and drive to siesta key. What are my chances of that happening? Is the storm predicted to his that far over to the West or just mainly in the East ?

I don't know anything about the storm, but wanted to say that Siesta Key is our favorite beach! We've had a house (duplex) right ON the beach for the last 6 yrs. Enjoy!! Enjoy!! Enjoy!!!!

I think RSW is the nicest airport I’ve been in. Feels like going home, and the seashell floor tiles are gorgeous. We vacation on Sanibel, so it will be a few years before we are back, unless we go to Manasota Key again.

My DD is in college in West Palm Beach and they are closing the school tomorrow through Friday and the students have to evacuate by 5 p.m. tomorrow. From what I've read this is forecast to be a Cat 1 Hurricane but because it is subtropical, it behaves a little differently and has a larger wind field. The current track has it going up the East Coast but because the storm field is large and the state is small, it could effect the entire state. Having said all that, I'm in North Central Texas and have no hurricane experience except trying to keep my daughter safe her first semester in college and it's been stressful! I thought we were safe for the rest of the season!

My sister-in-law’s headed to the Fort Lauderdale area. She was supposed to fly in later Wednesday and has changed her flight to 6 AM Wednesday morning.

The storm has changed s little. It has gained strength. It should make landfall near Melbourne, so more north than previously thought. I’m in Daytona Beach. We’re under a hurricane warning. We’re expecting 4-6” of rain but isolated areas can get 6-8” of rain. Wednesday night into Thursday we’re expecting 50 mph winds with gusts up to 80 mph. The worst part of the storm for our area will be along the coast. So many homes and hotels/condos that are slo g the beach we’re damaged from hurricane Ian. The ocean still comes up to the seawalls. Some have collapsed as did some pools. Piers have been damaged and part of a restaurant that was on a pier, broke off and floated away. Sink holes have also developed. So all of that is from Ian. A good deal couldn’t be repaired because the water hadn’t reseeded . So with this storm, the emergency management personnel of the county are very concerned of it causing more widespread damage. It’s still too early to give definite scenarios. This storm is ever changing. Also, the cone looks to cover all of FL but that can change!

It has wobbled and is supposed to now hit between Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart as a strong Cat 1.
But we know that too can change.

Many coastal areas are. The storm surge area will be LARGE, esp because of moon phase ( not sure I caught why, but they keep saying it.)

Well, here we go. It is very wobbly and has moved south. It appears northern Palm Beach, Martin and Saint Lucie counties are in the line of fire. Off work today and getting ready to close the shutters, already brought in the patio furniture. I know it is selfish, but just do not want to lose power.

I've been seeing what I could find. American Airlines will be doing something with flights to RSW, so expect cancellations. I am shocked to know it's even open, as the news I found said it wouldn't open until next Tuesday. Fort Myers is on the edge of the current severe wind field. However, I don't know where the airport lies in respect to areas of severe damage. A lot of the damage from Ian isn't cleared yet, judging from what I've seen, and how it is in the Tampa region. So even low end winds could cause new damage, as debris goes flying. I wouldn't count on the airport being open. They currently have 15 minute incoming delays and gate holds. The other thing is that theoretically the roads down to the keys should be fine, but again they may have debris issues, especially further north. I'd keep checking with the airport online. You might find out quicker than waiting to hear from the airline.
Up here, outside of Tampa, there is still debris sitting on the side of almost every street, everything from roofing to large tree trunks. Ian was in September and this could cause more damage from this storm as we expect just as strong winds, and we have all this debris still around. Yikes! Absolutely expect to lose power as usual (we seem to be in a sneeze-hard-and-there-goes-the-power area, lol.

I've flown in and out of there 3 times since Ian.

Not funny. People’s lives and livelihoods are literally destroyed when these storms come thru.

I thought it was funny. I did NOT see this graphic... I reckon someone fiddled with the real graphics personally. Kibbles and bits, that was what it said when I looked up RSW airport. I'm very surprised how quickly it was opened. So template queen, I have to know if you were able to make your trip? Here in Tampa, the storm was so bad.... afterwards we had one wayward twig on our driveway and the pool was full. LOL. Sorry. Couldn't help it. Really, some of the wind gusts were impressive, and we think the eye went over or very close to us, as we thought it was over, then the wind started up again for a while, but 90% of the wind was on the front of the storm. It was unusual. I was awake for a while in the middle of the night, just watching the trees swaying, then again soon after it got light. We were very lucky and only lost power for about an hour and a half, so we didn't lose any food this time. Very grateful for that. I'm also grateful we picked this location. I mean, I had no idea how much worse Orlando would have been, often worse than even places in Tampa that are closer to the ocean, and Orlando is inland. So glad not to live there! How did our other Floridians fare?
