What an antiSemitic d*ck.
Now I understand why a bunch of SNL’s writers boycotted the show.
I only watched his beyond offensive monologue to understand the depths of his offensiveness. Right down to his justification of holding his views by saying - literally - “I grew up around Jews and have a lot of Jewish friends.”
I mean the textbook racist verbiage, but out of the mouth of another Black man, against Jews.
F him.

I watched SNL. Not only was it not funny it was absolutely gross to watch him such on a cig in nearly every skit. Yuck. He’s a real asshold.

I did not watch. What exactly did he say? It went on for a long time - much longer than the average SNL monologue at 15 minutes - and started with a mocking disclaimer that he claims was all that Kanye should have said. He went on to say many things, including the gem I quoted above, and then indirectly blamed Kanye’s words on his mental illness, said that the NBA shouldn't have sanctioned Kyrie, etc.

A known transphobic POS. They still had him host and now this. I'm not going to watch the show. Honestly, this season has rarely been funny.

Not impressed with him. Wasn't he the one who was hurt on stage kind of recently? You would think he would be more aware, of life in general.
I record SNL and typically watch so I can FF thru boring skits and commercials. I wish there was a way they could see me turn him off in disgust. I think I will complain via their social media instead. It's not much, but it is something.

www.npr.org/2022/11/13/1136343690/dave-chappelle-saturday-night-live-antisemitismChappelle was already a controversial guest; critics — including me — slammed his 2021 Netflix special The Closer for its homophobic and transphobic jokes. He didn't apologize. As I said in my review, Chappelle seems to think he's above criticism; for him, race seems to trump all.
That modus operandi was in full display Saturday night. As his monologue unfolded, Chappelle negotiated a fine line – admitting West, now known as Ye, said things so terrible that even Adidas, a company founded by brothers who were members of the Nazi party in the 1930s, was offended ("I guess the student surpassed the teacher.") But at the same time, the comic seemed to suggest that Ye's barbs about Jewish people controlling the media and show business – echoing classic antisemitic tropes – were not entirely untrue. ("I've been to Hollywood – it's a lot of Jews," he cracked. "Like, a lot.")
He also joked about Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, who was suspended after posting a link to an antisemitic film, called Hebrew to Negroes: Wake Up Black America, that asserts the Holocaust never happened. Chappelle noted Irving's "Black a-- was nowhere near the Holocaust."
What I do know, is that one of comedy's boldest and most incisive voices had a chance to lend insight to the long struggle Black America has had with antisemitism. But instead, his monologue seemed filled with justification and minimization – failing to mention, for instance, allegations that Ye has expressed admiration for Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
Yes, comedy isn't a news report. But if we're going to elevate particularly skilled performers like Chappelle – because there's a sense their work also contains powerful truths about society and life – then we also have to note when they offer material that does the opposite and obscures an issue which should be cut and dried.

He’s been disgusting for a good while now too. If anyone watched it, was the audience actually entertained by his monologue last night?

He’s been disgusting for a good while now too. If anyone watched it, was the audience actually entertained by his monologue last night? Dh, who was as gobsmacked as I was, kept saying he thought it sounded like a laugh track. So, I don’t know. I just know that if someone said the same things that he said last night with Blacks as his “punchlines,” instead of the Jews, they would have been eviscerated and rightfully so. For me, the icing on his antisemitic cake was the whole “I can say this because “I have Jewish friends” blatant hate-filled attitude. He knew what he was saying - on many different layers - when he wrote and said that line on public television. When a white person says that about POC (“I can’t be racist because some of my best friends are Black”), they are justifiably called out for racism. For Dave Chappelle, who knows that perfectly well, to say it about Jews screams that he is antisemitic and not apologetic about it.

It is disgustingly, anti-semetic. Some of my best friends are...is code for "I hate that group, but don't want to be judged". He knows what it's liked to be judged just because you're born a certain way. You'd think that would make him compassionate twds all people. I can't even imagine how he thought that monologue was a good idea.

We watched and I was WTF the entire time. At the beginning he was getting some laughs. Towards the end hardly any. At one point there was just one random laugh from the audience and he thanked the guy.
We didn’t watch his entire monologue but fast forwarded right about that point.

I haven't watched SNL in years and I don't follow DC much either... the radio was saying how funny it was... so hearing this makes me corn-fused and now won't even check it out. What are the radio people thinking?

I didn't watch and now that I'm hearing this I'm glad I didn't. Why why why? This is so wrong. What was SNL thinking by giving this hate a platform?

gah, I have so many opinions. Dave Chappelle is not wrong: there are a lot of Jewish people working in Hollywood. When he leaves it at that, it makes it seem (to stupid people) like they are a cabal influencing everything that is consumed as entertainment. That they only hire other Jewish people and there is some malevolence to it. What he leaves out is why Hollywood became what it is because of Jews: they couldn't get work elsewhere. They were willing to "stoop" to work in Hollywood when upper class patrician types thought it was beneath them. There's a lot of Jewish people in Hollywood BECAUSE of anti-semitism. To just state the former without the latter leads to really unhelpful conclusions. How American Jews Built Hollywood

I have never found Dave Chappelle to be edgy or relevant or funny. I watched the last Netflix special, and I just don't get his appeal. I did not watch SNL.

peabay , thank you for sharing that article w/us. It explains so much and it's the truth. My great grandparents came here from Russia/Poland, expect for one from England. One of my great grandfathers came here w/a suitcase and a pair of scissors. He was a tailor. Through hard hard work and ambition, he became successful in a different industry. When he was older and very successful he always carried his scissors w/him. That was his reminder about where he came from. Also, if he was at a party and he didn't like your tie then he'd pull out the scissors and cut it off. You'd think people would hate him, but he was very kind and generous. He taught his friends to make money and many of the people in his community were well-off, because he shared his knowledge and helped anyone who wanted his help. By and large, so many of these immigrants worked so hard. This wasn't just handed to any of them. Jewish people don't run the banks, Hollywood or anything else. It's a culture that focuses on education and hard work. Dave Chappelle can go F* himself!

All he wanted was for his hard work to help educate his children because he knew that education was the path to success. My best friend's Jewish grandfather worked in rags and rubbish and scrap metal. Same reason - it was work no one else would do and it meant he could educate his children.

Wasn't he the one who was hurt on stage kind of recently? Unless you are thinking of another incident, no that was Chris Rock who got punched by Will Smith. I have never really liked Dave Chapelle. Or Kanye, they can both be gone.
