I don't even remember why. That's the other problem, besides it being, y'know, abusive. It does not get kids to remember what they did wrong, only that they were hurt by someone they are supposed to trust and learn from. Seriously kids are cruel enough to each other, there's no need to heap yet more trauma on them from adults too.

FFS! There is no bottom with these cretins!!! The poor kids. I'll bet most of their parents have no options when it comes to switching districts either.

No child should ever be hit. All children deserve to be safe from harm.
There are many constructive ways to work with children who have behavior issues. Violence begets violence.

So essentially, this is nothing new, just a couple of assholes grandstanding for attention.
It is time for all states to make corporal punishment in schools illegal so when thesr crazies pop up, there is no attention given to them.

When my older ds was in grade school and middle school in Alabama, I had to sign a form every year at the start of the school year that said I do not permit use of corporal punishment for my child. I don’t remember exactly how it was phrased, but the concept was that corporal punishment may be used unless the parent/guardian opts out. It also had to be resubmitted each year, even when he was at the same school as the previous year.
I couldn’t believe that I was actually signing and submitting that form in the 2000s but I did it (I think it was around 2006/7 ish so mid/late 2000s) I think we lived there three years so I did it three times.

I'll bet most of their parents have no options when it comes to switching districts either. Florida school districts are county-wide so yes, unless you live close enough to the county border AND can transport your own child to and from school AND the neighbouring county has space...you're stuck in the school district you live in.
