You would think anything poppy based would help me sleep, but I, like several others in my family, get more lively.
I got my flu shot and Covid booster one in each arm early yesterday. By bed time, I was in horrid pain all over, and also shivering and feverish. It was so bad I took one of my carefully saved Percosets.
and once it took effect, it truly helped. I’m so grateful. But I’m also up Peaing when usually I’d be sleeping.
I’m just curious how many have this side effect.
And I am totally going to designate today as a rest day.

I do not, I haven't had it in decades, but I don't remember that. However codeine, pain medications and steroids do that to my sister. Like she won't be able to sleep at all.
I'm sorry you are feeling bad, I hope you are better soon and can get some rest.

I don’t know about codeine by NyQuil makes me unable to sleep. Or at least it used to. I haven’t taken the nighttime version for years because I’d how it makes me feel.

Well , yes, opiates keep me from sleeping, but mostly because I’m too busy vomiting. My stomach cannot handle them, at all. Very very bad reaction esp to codeine. I’d rather be in pain, it would hurt less than what my stomach will put me thru.
Not exactly the reason it keeps you up though 😉

Whenever I have to take a narcotic, I have to take it literally right before I turn off the lights. If it starts working on me, I won't be able to sleep or sometimes I can't get into a deep sleep. I have crazy vivid dreams. I hate taking that stuff.

I am allergic to codeine but the one time I took it before the reaction, I was jittery and unable to rest. Felt like I was having an anxiety attack.
NyQuil also makes me sick and stay awake.

I remember when my daughter was young, and she always had a terrible barky cough when she would catch something. My doctor prescribed cough syrup with codeine - mostly so she would sleep. ugh..yea...no. That did not work. Whoa. I still remember how wired she was. Didn't stop the cough at all either.

I do not like opiates. They don't keep me awake technically but I feel like I never get a deep sleep, because of the crazy dreams. And the constipation is the worst.

I've only ever had codeine in cough syrup for a really bad cough. It helps with that, and let's me sleep.

I used to never take NyQuil because it would keep me up. I took it out of desperation this past weekend (it was all I had in the house, and it expired in May), and it knocked me OUT! I have cough medicine with codeine and that knocks me out too

I have fibro and have hydrocodone for break through pain. I take it whenever. It does me the same way. There have been times where I felt so bad and just wanted to take my meds and sleep. Nope. I can sleep through a Red Bull even. Nothing to be proud of, but there is a coffee shop where my ODS lives and they make Red Bull refreshers. So I do think I am wired backwards from most and how substances affect some are the opposite on me. Flexeril? pshaw, not even close.

My kids and I have that. Anything that is supposed to make you drowsy (Benadryl, NyQuil, Dramamine, sleeping pills, Advil PM, etc.) makes us hyper.
Like bouncing off the walls, looks like we have caffeine shakes, hyper.

I am exhausted And the pain relief has worn off..I’m going to try to sleep, ( it’s almost 8 am here)
The anxiety I was feeling when I started my other thread, is lessened. I see a way forward that I hope will result in a little getaway, and I’m beyond relieved that it’s not my job to make her feel bad about her drinking. I will respond on the other thread whenever I wake up.

Yep, totally wired. Prednisone in huge doses that makes people energized puts me right to sleep.

Codeine cough syrup makes me feel like there are ants under my skin. (Not in a hallucinatory sense, just like I can't get settled and definitely can't sleep.)
It's funny because almost any other med that commonly has sedation as a side effect does that at least somewhat for me.

Not me, I sleep like a baby if I take codeine or hydrocodone (Vicodin/Norco).
But I don't really like Percocet, which contains oxycodone, not codeine. They make me feel slightly anxious and don't help my pain as much as hydrocodone or codeine, which are technically "weaker" than oxycodone. I have had a fair number of surgeries over the years and therefore have had many different kinds of pain meds in the past, though it's been several years now (knock wood!).
Everyone is different! I've given a LOT of pain medication to people over the years and what works for some, doesn't for others.

I've discovered that side effects are my super-power. Codeine gave me horrible ones. My face went numb, and my heart felt as if it was thumping out of my chest all night, despite my being exhausted beyond exhaustion. It was horrible.
DH had the same aches and chills after his Covid vac on Saturday. He had a fever overnight, crawled about suffering half of Sunday and finally took some plain old paracetamol after I really pushed him. He felt better within minutes and has been fine since.
Hugs. I hope you get the rest you need.
