DS asked for a weighted blanket. He wants one that is soft/Sherpa/fleece. He said "maybe 15lbs" but doesn't really know what weight he needs. Any suggestions on what to look for or specific brands that you like? Thanks!

I have 2 from this brand that I really like. I feel like the squares are small enough that the weight is spread evenly. I use one daily and haven’t had any issues in at least 2 years. They tell you which weight to use for particular body weight, but I prefer them really, really heavy.

I have three. All of them are Tranquility. Started with a 12lb. (used in summer) Then got a 6lb, for over my shoulders. Then got a 20lb. Sometimes, when my anxiety is really high, I use both the 12 and 20 one on top of the other, 32lbs. So comforting, excellent sleep, but very warm.
The formula I read about, to determine the weight needed....is 10% of ones body weight, plus 2 or 3 pounds. I don't follow the formula, I just use what's best for me.
My advice is make sure it has a removable cover, for washing. My 12lb doesn't have one, so have to buy a cover separately.

This is the same one that I purchased too. I really like that the beads are glass so that they will not be breaking down like a plastic bead would eventually do. And I like that the cover is removable and washable. And that it ties in multiple places to the weighted blanket part so that it isn't shifting around inside the cover part. I do get tired of tying the ties when I wash it. I plan to replace the ties with velcro strips to make it faster and easier to put back together after washing.

I have one that I love and one that I don’t. Both are 15 pounds which works for me. The one I love was from Amazon and is the Weighted Idea brand. I like it because the beads don’t shift around and bunch up in the quilted welts. The one I don’t like is at the lake and I think it’s a Pendleton bought at Tuesday Morning. Both have glass beads but with the one at the lake they bunch up at the bottom or sides of each quilted part and it’s not nice and smooth. The Weighted Idea blanket just has a smooth cotton cover so I made an outer cover for it from flannel which kind of helps it “stick” in place under my comforter. The other one has a more minky type cover which makes it slide off the bed if too many of the beads along that side work their way to the edge of the blanket.
Anyway, something to know about a weighted blanket with a minky cover is that it will be HOT to sleep under. Even my cotton one with a single layer flannel cover is so hot that post menopausal me can’t really use it anymore except in the dead of winter when it’s freezing inside and out. It might be a good idea to get one with a plain cotton exterior and get a separate washable minky cover to go over it. That way if the minky gets too hot he can take that cover off.

We have a bunch of gravity blankets. We have a queen plus singles on our bed. Our oldest has one of the kid ones. Our boys share a bed and have a queen on that bed. I adore them. We got out first from them when they were on Kickstarter. We have the original covers, cooling covers, and two-sided cover. They are a little pricey, but so worth it. I even took my daughter's with us to Hawaii and Abu Dhabi since I often find hotels lacking in the blanket weight department.

I was too hot under a 15 lb and got a 12 lb. that I love! I sleep so much better. You are suppose to go by weight but I'm sure menopause, port or pre also menopause makes a difference. lol
