Good morning.
I'm going to do something I never do and head to the mall 2 weeks before Christmas. I have a couple more things to get and I just haven't had time. So, I'll go the minute they open and hopefully, be out of there quickly. Dinner will be ham casserole and salad.
What's on your menu?
What are you up to today?
How is everyone doing today?
sueg, how is your ds? Are the rest of you OK?
Wishing my tribe full of wonderful women a very happy day today!

Hopefully it's not too busy early on a Wednesday. I have been tasked with bringing dessert to Jeremy's family Christmas. I'm contemplating what I'd like to make. I'm taking suggestions if any of you has a favorite holiday dessert. Last night we ended up having pulled pork tacos. So tonight we will have the sesame chicken. I, unfortunately have a meeting right during lunch hour (seriously, who does that?). I'm so irritated about it. Like irrationally irritated about it. I need something good for lunch, but I haven't been to the store. I am hoping I can talk Jeremy into going and getting something.

I am having lunch with friends today. That should be fun I think. I need to clean off the guest bed because it’s full of my junk. (Good junk, though!) There’s not much else to tell. I figured out what I am having for lunch today and am laughing at all the calories in it. I might hit Costco today, too. I haven’t decided yet. Maybe, though.
Everyone is bought for so I am sitting pretty lol. I got my new hat at Lululemon last night and I love it. Why I didn’t go there first after striking out elsewhere is beyond me. I am very happy, though!

jeremysgirl , how about a pecan pie, if you do pies? If not, a cake of some sort would be yummy, too. Perhaps a chocolate hazelnut cake? I hope that Jeremy can get you some lunch stuff. The meeting will be over before you know it and then you can be more than halfway done w/your work day.
Delta Dawn, enjoy your lunch w/friends. Sounds like a nice afternoon.

I was leaning toward some kind of cake because one would feed more people. I dunno. Jeremy does love pecan pie. And on the work day....I logged in at 6am this morning. (I was up at 4:30), so I'm calling it a day at 3 pm. I have one last meeting at 2:30 but it shouldn't last a half hour. We shall see. Mentally, I'm already done for today.

I think ex's family misses the trifle more than me!

I am just finishing up my awesome Humanities class ... love these kids. I have to drive to my mum's place after work to do a few things for her ... sigh! I also have to stop at the bank to finally pick up my new VISA credit card ... my old one was compromised over a week ago It has made online Christmas shopping difficult ... mum to the rescue! I've been using my mum's credit card! Dinner tonight will be takeout pork dumplings!

I have my Newcomer's luncheon today. We raise money for a charity so we're having a jewelry raffle. People have been donating nice jewelry for the past few months. You buy raffle tickets and put them in the bags in front of the pieces you want to win. They also have some high end pieces that will be silent auctioned. In the spring we do the same thing with nice purses. It's a lot of fun and we raise a lot for our charity. Dinner will be decided when I get home. Maybe Teriyaki Chicken.

It was cold enough last night that we covered some of our outdoor babies (aka plants) that don't like when we come within a few degrees of freezing.
I'm heading into the CASA office this morning to drop off a couple car seats and pick up holiday gift cards for my most recent kids. Their case just closed so technically they weren't on the party list, but the cards were already issued so they will get an extra holiday treat. It's big decision time for me as one of the requirements to taking a new case is committing to be available for 18 months. I definitely won't take a case until the new year, but DH is making some retirement decision and the million dollar question is where we'll be living next year.
It is a fend for yourself night here.

bc2ca to you want to return to the Island? I love living here even when the weather is bad and they cancel all the ferries. I cannot imagine living anywhere else. Remember we have Thrifty Foods for a good grocery store. My kids want to move here so badly (well DDIL does and she’s the boss).

Do you want to return to Canada? I always thought we would be based here and spend up to half our time in Vancouver. We have a tenanted apartment there, so the long term plan was to give notice, renovate and use it ourselves and make it available for other family members to use (we have zero interest in AirBnBing it). Vancouver has had a huge problem with real estate investors buying properties and leaving them empty so the city added an Empty Homes Tax (Vacancy Tax) a few years ago. Then the province added a Speculation and Vacancy Tax that included Vancouver and expanded into other areas of the province. For us, the two taxes would add up to over $20,000 annually. In order to avoid the taxes and keep it for our use only, the property has to be our primary residence, which moves our residency from the US to Canada. Income taxes and healthcare are also impacted by primary residency of course. It is more than just the taxes. Especially after the pandemic, we are both being drawn emotionally through family, friends and political climate back to Canada.

We haven't covered the jade and ours have survived a couple transplants around the yard. bc2ca to you want to return to the Island? DH sends me plenty of Victoria listings, although my heart is still in Kitsilano. But I won't be upset if it is the island either because it gives us a smidge of distance we need from his family and I do love it there.

I know this is a problem that they are trying to solve, but damn. That's a lot of money. It is a legitimate problem, and the taxes have opened up some properties to the rental market. But it does catch people like us unfairly, IMHO.

Kits is very nice, though! I understand about needing distance though. Don’t all the Greek people live in Kits? There are oodles of Greek restaurants there. My kind of heaven. My kids live in Bby right near Metrotown. They are too far from Skytrain though. I take the bus toBridgeport. Take Skytrain to Somewhere and transfer from there. I forget exactly but it’s pretty easy. Shopping in YVR is so much better than YYJ. There will always be that.

I’m trying to get some Christmas wrapping done. I feel good today except for the lack of energy. I have gifts laid out all over the livingroom floor and now hoping that the gift wrapping fairy comes along to wrap them for me.
Going out for supper tomorrow night with a former co- worker. That will be my first outing out of the house since I’ve been sick. She knows that I’ve been sick and I let her decide if she wanted to cancel. She wants to go so I’m excited to go out.
We’ve finally decided that we are having our Christmas celebration on Boxing Day. That allows my boys to go to their in laws on Christmas Day.
Supper is leftover chicken tonight.

Happy Wednesday friends.
It's been a busy week and today is not going as planned. I had a 10 am call with my manager, that is still in limbo, she was fighting a fire and hasn't sent an update yet. I have a 3 and 4:30 calls too. I had hoped to run an errand between calls, but now it will have to be this evening.
Dinner will be a sausage link and stuffed mushrooms from a cajun market near the office. I decided to stop on my way home yesterday. I'll add some fried potato pancakes from some leftover mashed that is left over.
Sending everyone healthy, happy, peaceful vibes!

scrapmaven. DS is doing fine. If he hadn’t tested, we would never have known he was positive. He tested because a few people from his work turned up positive after Christmas parties last week. I haven’t tested yet today - it’s 8am and I just woke up - but feel fine. My biggest worry right now is DH. He is meant to fly this evening over to meet us, and today Munich has been hit by dreadful weather, with ice and really low temps, and the airport is closed and all flights are either diverted or canceled. Hopefully things thaw out a bit in the next 24 hours. Yesterday was DS”s birthday, so we ordered from the Chinese restaurant just up the street from where we are staying - chicken and sweet corn soup, half a duck with hoisin sauce, Chinese broccoli and mushrooms in oyster sauce and special fried rice. It was all delicious. We also had chocolate cake.

Hi friends! I am simply exhausted today. DH had a work party yesterday, so I was up at 5 AM helping him make homemade meatballs and sauce. (Plus side: the apartment and car smelled really good for a bit.) I also stayed up for 2 periods of last night's Caps game. Ovechkin scored his 800th goal in the last goal of a hat trick. He's just absolutely insane. One away from tying Gordie Howe's goals record, and 94 away from Gretzky. I do wish, though, that the game hadn't been on ESPN. Their commentators are awful, and having the hometown guys announce that goal would've been amazing. Fortunately, the Caps radio announcer - who is fantastic, had a much better call of it that is online.
This week's dinner is vegetable beef stew. We made it in the Dutch oven and it's so good. It may also be the fact we've not had it in so long that I like it so much this time.
Wishing you all a great week!

Ugh. Woke up this morning with a head cold, sneezing, coughing and some bodyaches. Took a Covid test and it popped up positive within two minutes. Called my primary care physician and apparently that is happening to people, such as our president did, it’s called rebound Covid after finishing Paxlovid. Damn it. I was supposed to have lunch with some friends tomorrow, go to dinner with my family Friday night, and now I get to freaking isolate for five days again. Can’t have the antiviral again which is fine because it just feels like a bad cold right now nothing major.
I did call my primary care physician since I was there today’s ago and apparently this happens to many people at about day seven or eight and I am at day seven of testing negative after finishing the antiviral. Can I just say that my life sucks and has sucked all year. I am just done

Came to my sister’s yesterday. We had planned to make meals up for our other sister whose radiation should have started. The place she is going to is so disorganized. It’s annoying. She had hoped to get a couple weeks in during school break but it’s not happening til January now. So she went on a school 4 day field trip at Lake Erie. Sounds miserable to me but she loves it. She even moved down to 5th grade and is still going with the 8th graders. My other sister and I went to all the ethnic groceries & farmers market to prep for Christmas. Then we went to the cemetery to my parents’ graves. The church sold it to a company in California. They’ve clearly relaxed the decorating rules. People had full Christmas tree and light displays on them. I was amazed. We did not do any of that. Dinner is broccoli cheddar soup with hot pepper bread. jeremysgirl what about a tray of all your cookies you made? Or a peppermint chocolate cheesecake? Yule log?

christine58 , you have just been hammered this year. Here's to a healthy 2023. sueg , I'm sending good flying vibes to your dh and hoping that his flight goes as planned. teddyw , ((((HUGS))). Going to the mall today was just a pathetic attempt at not finding Christmas presents. Our Bare Minerals is closing, so I bought myself some foundation for 50% off. Whoopee. How can Macy's Mens store not have men's wallets? So, I came home and went online. It's still very surreal over here and trying to do a normal thing right now doesn't make it any less weird. In other news, ladies who use bare escentuals go to your local stores. They're closing their retail stores and the deals are great.

How can Macy's Mens store not have men's wallets? DH's wallet was falling apart so several months ago I found a high end brand wallet at Ross or Marshalls. It was a $50 wallet marked down to $12! Our Newcomer's luncheon was wonderful. There were over 100 members there and we raffled off over 90 pieces of jewelry. I won 4 necklaces with matching bracelets. My raffle ticket number ended with my birth month, birth date and birth year! We raised over $2,000 for our charity so we were thrilled.

well, after 14 hours in the car yesterday.. trying to catch up with laundry, packages delivered, mail, and so on. I've been to two stores today and went to pick up meds.
dinner is easy chicken stir fry, and I may do take out tomorrow.
we bought tickets to pharoah museum exhibit for tomorrow, now dh is saying he may be too tired. he had 3 medical appts this morning getting ready for surgery on monday. hoping he will feel he can participate in cleaning garage this weekend.
then I have to take his care to safelite.. to get cracked windshield replaced. so my day will be filled. being gone for 2 weeks messes up my schedule.
ps I bought my dh a wallet for christmas.. his current one is covered with duc tape. we will see if he likes it..I got him a high end one as he would like that.
