Hi everyone! It is ass cold here today so I am hibernating! I will watch TV and play on my phone and take a nap. I might also wrap some gifts ... we'll see! I am braving the cold tonight and going to my girlfriends place for her condo's annual Christmas potluck ... I really dislike potlucks but it will be fun to eat dinner at 5pm with a bunch of old people (she lives in a 55 plus building filled with seniors) This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I think I'm ready for Christmas but I'm sure I'll find a couple of more things to pick up this week! I hope everyone is doing well today when it comes to the weather in your areas! What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everyone!

Hi ladies! I haven't been on here all week. Been working 12 hour days. Working today but I wanted to pop in. I hope everyone has been well. I can so relate to your meme leannec. I snapped at DH last night when he asked what I was going to make for his family Christmas today. I gave him a cool glare and asked why he hadn't gone to the store and thought about it since I was working and not going to be able to attend. I really have no idea where December has gone. I still have so much left to do. I'm shopping after work so I'll just grab something in town. I know DH will have eaten all day at his sisters so I'm not worried about it. Have a fabulous day everyone!

We have a pork roast defrosting and it will be dinner. I’m not sure how it will be cooked. I’m sure there will be rice and a veggie served as well.
I did my wrapping this morning. I also just went on Amazon and finished my shopping. Ds is very hard to buy for but I found a couple of consumable gifts I think he’ll enjoy. I got a few other things as well.

I'm doing a few things around the house this morning. Having a slow morning. But I'm hoping to actually quilt together my Christmas quilt tomorrow so I've got a few things to do for that. And I hand washed my two cashmere sweaters.
I need a trip to the grocery store. I may just dry my hair and sneak out to the little one this morning to just pick up a few things. Jeremy's at work and he said not to expect him until after 2 today.
I'm not sure what will be for dinner tonight. I'll most likely pick up a chicken. Actually chicken wild rice soup sounds really good to me. Maybe I can talk Jeremy into that.

It’s ass cold here too. My brothers are on their way to the Buffalo Bills football game where it’s going to snow about 6 to 9 inches during the game. One of them lives near the stadium so the other one can stay there overnight if need be. I still feel like crap this second round or whatever you wanna call it of testing positive for Covid has absolutely sucked. My head hurts and I’m nauseous and I have no appetite and I know I need to be drinking and eating. I am going to obviously stay put again today. No idea what’s for dinner. If I get some energy I might wrap some Christmas gifts. I don’t have that many to wrap as my siblings and I don’t exchange gifts and haven’t in a long time. We just buy for the little kids at this point makes life easier. My mom was easy this year because she just wanted me to renew her Sirius radio so that’s done. I’m hoping to actually get to take a shower today if I can muster up enough energy. I have a follow up appointment with my Gastro doctor on Monday however if I test positive for Covid still Monday morning obviously I’m not going. I will let them know even before I go what’s been going on and let them decide what to do. It’s still mandated here to wear masks in doctors offices so it’s not a big deal to postpone it. Well I hope everyone has a good day. So many of us are sick and a couple of the threads on here about being sad on Christmas and at the holidays break my heart. The Christmas before my dad passed away and then the Christmas after were so very difficult I felt like we were just going through the motions. scrapmaven what an honor it will be for you and your family to be with your mother-in-law as she passes away. It’s a tough experience as you know but my goodness it is a blessing. The conversations I had with my dad before he passed I will never forget. The ones we had when he could still Caryonah conversation or even more important and there are things that we said to each other that were so meaningful.

Last night we had a very late night nurse visit, because my mil took a sudden decline. Then dh who is on call got two calls that were unnecessary in the middle of the night. He was not happy. We're tired and sad and stressed. Yds will be home in a few hours and I called him in order to prepare him for what he's walking into. He's a strong guy and can handle anything, but this is a really big stuff. Dh needs the rest of my Santa list, but honestly, it's not on my radar. I have to perk up a bit and do my best to prepare for the holidays.
christine58 , I'm really sorry that you're so ill. UGH! Thank you for your kind words. I had some pretty meaningful conversations w/my mom when she was dying. She was mostly terrified, but at times she would be able to really talk. One of the most special and true things she said to me was this. "I know that you're miserable and think that you'll never be happy, again, but you will. In time Joy will return. I promise." Truer words were never said. Now ya'll know where I get my spirit from.

Good morning, Dinner Tribe. It is going to get cold here, too. I have a birthday dinner for a friend at the Keg tonight which should be good. I plan to eat a lot of Keg bread. They serve wonderful bread with dinner. Things are great here apart from the cold weather. Stay warm everyone!

leannec that meme made me laugh. We visited the Cabazon dinosaurs today and just got back. Only a slight breeze but chilly. 49 when we got there and warmed up to 51. The breeze was cold as it is coming off the snowy mountains. Toby has his grooming appointment to get all handsome for Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Also have some errands to run. Dinner will be lemon garlic rosemary chicken and potato bake along with fresh green beans and steamed rice.

I went to the little market. Jeremy told me he wants BLTs tonight. So I guess he's cooking.
I feel so restless right now. Just don't quite know what to do with myself.

Im making a big pot of sauce and meatballs and expecting my daughter and grandkids for a visit.
I went out earlier to the dollar store for some last minute stocking stuffers and it was a zoo out there. Stay in if you can avoid being out — the holiday stress is getting to people.

Thanks for making me giggle. I have never heard that expression. I really dislike potlucks but it will be fun to eat dinner at 5pm with a bunch of old people (she lives in a 55 plus building filled with seniors) Hee hee....my Dad was 91, but we always said he was MUCH younger in his personality/ humor, etc. He HATED that stereotype of elderly people having dinner early. We used to encourage him to go to the local senior center for activities and meals, but he'd scoff and say "eating dinner at 4 or 5 is SO depressing, and I do NOT wanna sit around playing games with "old" people!" I have to perk up a bit and do my best to prepare for the holidays Dear, dear scrapmaven....I reallllly hope you're not putting undue pressure on yourself! You don't HAVE to do anything unnecessary if you're too exhausted! I am actually going to cook today! I sit in a rolling office chair with multiple ice packs on several joints and just roll around the kitchen. I'm gonna make jumbalaya....yum! Ugh, once again, DH is completely exhausted since the doggie had him up very early. Henry wimpers a lot and needs lots of help. As I said the other day, since I cannot help much, that is why DH is NOT ready for a bulldog yet (high-maintenance--but worth it!) ---this sweet little pug is wearing him out! DH and I also have had craving for COOKIES...I found a recipe last night for brown-butter chocolate chip cookies that looks scrumptious! Aside from the browned butter, the other ingredients that take them over-the-top is sea salt and extra vanilla. I hope they're yummy, because I'm tired of the same ole' cookies I've made for years. Many times, my choc. chip cookies taste like nothing but BUTTER---so I decreased the amount that recipes call for. But then that makes the texture wrong. Ugh! After doing lots of reading about it yesterday, I wonder if I needed to add more vanilla than most recipes call for. If anyone is reading this far ---please tell me your tips for the yummiest cookies!

scrappintoee My tips for the yummiest cookies are a bakery. Lol we actually have someone nearby who has a small business and makes the most delicious cookies and hot cocoa bombs and cakes. So that’s my tip. I hate baking because I always make a mess.

Some of my favorite cookie recipes are over on the recipe board scrappintoee. Want to know the truth of a good cookie? It starts with a convection oven. I will never not have one.

christine58...oooh, there's a few wonderful bakeries that I'd LOVE to go and get their cookies AND other yummy treats, but DH doesn't like to drive that far. (I tease him about it quite a bit--like, 25 miles is NOTHING to me! ) Ugh....I cannot WAIT to be able to drive again! Want to know the truth of a good cookie? It starts with a convection oven. I will never not have one. Oooh, interesting! We recently purchased a fancy-shmancy convection oven/ regular oven / air fryer combo. I'm intimidated by it, but look forward to finding out why air-frying is so popular. Okay, I'm gonna read the instructions ONCE AGAIN and try the convection setting....thank you!

I suggested Thai take away, which DSO agreed to, but he said he wasn't very hungry. So instead I made pasta carbonara.
As I mentioned yesterday, DD and I went grocery shopping yesterday to fill her new pantry. We didn't spend as much as I thought we would, because there was a lot of stuff she decided not to get right now, and she didn't get any refrigerated goods. They're going to Bali on Boxing day, so there was no point buying any perishables We spent $378 in one supermarket (which I paid for as part of their housewarming gift) and while I was loading those groceries into the car, DD went to another supermarket and spent another $113.

The weather here is Melbourne has finally decided to at least try to be summery. This of course coincided with DH arriving and bringing extra long sleeved shirts for me, which I will probably not need now! Yesterday we had a lovely brunch with family. Sophia was so excited when they drove up and she saw DH! They went to the football last night, so DH, other DS and I had a quiet dinner at the apartment. Today we are going to a Christmas BBQ lunch with DDiL’s extended family. It is hosted by her great auntie Edie (Edith) who has just turned 100. I believe this year we are actually at one of her sons’ houses. We have met many of them over the years and get on quite well and the weather is lovely, so it will be a fun afternoon out. scrapmaven, my thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. Take care.

I had a fun morning learning to make macarons. The instructor was a bit of a negative Nelly, continuously telling us all the reasons our macarons would fail and setting the expectations super low. Our first batch (green) was pretty darn perfect and the second batch was very close, good feet but not completely smooth on top. Normally I use convection for all baking like jeremysgirl said, but we were told to NEVER use the convection setting for macarons as the fan will push on the cookie and make them lopsided or cause cracks. The most disappointing part was it was a full class and our second batch (pink) was the last to go in the oven, so we had to fill hot macarons. While I was baking, my guys got the outdoor lights up and DD phoned from her YiaYia's house to say she was getting loaded up with Greek cookies, shortbread and other treats to bring down. Dinner is fend for yourself which usually means a little personal charcuterie plate for me.
