Vancouver, BC was hit with a snowstorm that has snarled air travel all over the place. That’ll start to clear off and then eastern Canada will get walloped.
DH is starting to stress as our kids are flying Thursday and Saturday. Add in the stress os DS#1 driving 4 hours to the airport in temps barely above -40.
Anyone else dealing with stress over travel yet?

DD is flying from Winnipeg to Calgary on Friday. I hope there isn't a problem. She's missed the last 2 Christmases at home (one because of shut downs and one because she had covid).

Every flight someone goes on is a mess without extenuating circumstances. Edmonton and Calgary are a mess and they are used to weather, it's not weather it's staffing for what they make available.

DD has been at YVR since early morning. Her 8:20 direct flight to LAX was canceled. It took close to 4 hours in line before getting rerouted on what was supposed to be at 1:30 flight through Dallas, overnighting and second flight to San Diego tomorrow. It is now 7:30pm and her plane hasn't left Vancouver. The good news is they are loaded and waiting in the deicing line so she should make her connecting flight in the morning. Best of luck to everyone traveling in the next 48 hours. Heck, to everyone traveling this holiday season.

DD and I are supposed to fly to Buffalo Friday night. It will be right in time for an expected dumping of lake effect snow. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a white Christmas, so I hope our flight isn’t cancelled.

Just reading this, my heart rate increased. I feel for all of you having to travel and/or worry about loved ones traveling!
I’ll be stuck in the town in which I live because of my work schedule and the whole fam will be here. My greatest concern is the possibility of the conversation veering into political territory! 😱

DH traveled Munich to Melbourne, leaving last Thursday evening and arriving early Saturday here. On Wednesday, an arctic blast hit Germany, bringing ice and snow and closing a number of airports, including Munich for a few hours. First flight was due to leave Munich at 9:30pm Thursday. Still lots of snow and ice and issues with incoming flights causing delays with outbound flights as well. They boarded about an hour late and then sat there at the gate. Munich has a midnight curfew, so as time went on everyone was getting a bit worried. They eventually let them leave at about 12:30am, as they decided breaking curfew was less hassle than deplaning 500 passengers and finding them somewhere to stay for the night. Originally, his layover was scheduled to be a bit over 4 hours, but with a 3 hour delay it was looking tight. As it turned out, there were so many flights into Dubai out of Europe that were late that they had to push back a lot of the connections, so he ended up having about 2 hours on the ground in Dubai and arriving in Melbourne only about an hour later than scheduled.
I hope our return flight in early January is slightly less stressful.

Not me personally but there are train strikes happening in the UK (as well as lots of others - don't get me started) so travel is going to be a nightmare for lots of people here

My husband hasn't seen his parents in a few years so we planned to do Christmas in Chicago with his whole family this year. Yeah, this is turning into a nightmare. We would be driving up from Florida; flying in my son to Chicago from school in Michigan....and we were going to head up tomorrow.
So now the tentative plan is leave on Friday, get about as far north as Nashville, Tennessee that day, (if that's safe), and then on Saturday when the worst is past, drive the rest of the way up to Chicago. Their big get together is Christmas Eve evening so we would be just in time.
Stalking the weather reports daily now.
Safe travels to everyone having to deal with this!

I don't know if I imagined this but I thought I heard on the news just before I turned it off last night that lots of travellers were stuck in Iceland due to the weather. That is one expensive place to be stuck.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a white Christmas, so I hope our flight isn’t cancelled. The only good part about the Buffalo airport is it is north of where they are expecting lake effect snow. I am West of there. Where are you headed once you get to Buffalo Airport? They’ve actually downgraded the amount of snow they’re more worried right now about the wind. Looking at about 5inches by Saturday morning. I think you’re gonna be fine it’s the wind that’s got everyone worried with the windchill factors

No issues yesterday for my oldest daughter; Paris->El Paso, with stops in Chicago and Houston. The youngest comes on Friday from NYC; I took a look at the weather and it seems she is escaping just before an arctic blasts descends on the city. I am thankful, as rain is predicted on her departure but since the HIGH will be 55 in the morning, she should be ok.

The midwest is expecting a major blizzard today through the weekend. It's going to be a nightmare. I'm hopeful my grandson will make it to Montana Saturday. The snow and wind will be done here in Minnesota by then.
Good luck, all!

KC is expected to get snow tomorrow - they keep downgrading the amounts. Fingers crossed for those of you who are traveling. We just don't try to get anywhere over Christmas as our weather can be so unpredictable. I spent a couple of years trying to get home from Montana where I was going to school and got stuck in Salt Lake more than once. This was well before Al Gore invented the internet and I could stalk the weather reports to see what it was going to do.

My son was supposed to flying through Chicago tomorrow night, but I've rerouted him for an earlier flight through DC. Hopefully he will beat the worst of the storm. Wish I could bring him home today, but he has one more final this evening.

Ugh, I’m sorry to everyone who’s dealing with chaos.
We’re hoping to skip around it. DD heads from Iowa to NY today—hopefully getting out just ahead of the storms. The rest of us fly from Texas to NY Sat—hopefully right behind the storms. And then we all head to London on Sun.
I already booked a car from Heathrow bc of the rail strikes. I’m a little concerned about getting around on our trip, but we’ll find a way to make do. We’re taking the Eurostar to Paris and back, but I think we’re missing the strike days. Hopefully we don’t get stuck in France since our flight home is out of London!

Our flight out of YVR was cancelled (no surprise) so looks like we won’t be having a sunny California Christmas after all.

My oldest son is supposed to be driving up to New York to see me for Christmas. I haven't seen him since last Christmas, so I have really been looking forward to this weekend.
He called last night and thinks he will still be good to drive up, but we are keeping an eye on the forecast. I have my fingers crossed that it all works out.

Oldest DD lives about 5 hours away by car, but she has to drive through a lot of mountains. She always takes her Christmas gifts home with her after Thanksgiving, and if she is able to travel home she brings them back. If the weather is bad, she stays there and we facetime on Christmas morning.
She had to work in another city for almost 3 months this fall, and we kept her cat since she couldn't board him for that long. She took him with her at Thanksgiving as well, and she decided then that she was not coming home for Christmas. She didn't want the stress of travel or leaving the cat for an extended period again--he has finally adjusted to being home, but he is glued to her side and still gets somewhat upset when she leaves for work. She recently settled into a relationship serious enough to refer to her guy as a "boyfriend," which is huge for Ms. Wants-to-Stay-Unattached LOL. He has invited her to his parents house for Christmas dinner, so this should be interesting.
Once we started getting word of all this severe weather for Christmas, I was so happy to know she had already made the decision not to travel this year. It looks like she would have been driving through a mess to get here, and now we don't have to worry about cancelling plans. This was all pre-planned, so there are no last-minute disappointments.

Ds & family had planned Christmas in Mexico. Their flight out of Vancouver yesterday was cancelled and by the time they had arranged alternate flight, they contacted their resort and were told that if they did not arrive yesterday as scheduled their reservation would be CANCELLED. Haven't heard from them since they told me they had booked a Verbo house in Palm Springs and were leaving Vancouver yesterday afternoon, driving to Portland OR to fly to Palm Springs.
