I love to read. I love looking at what everyone else is reading. I love seeing people set goals and make them! I want in!!!!! So tell me a few simple things that I’ve always wondered.
1. Where do you track these books? I don’t want to do paper and pen. Is there a site that you can enter the book, and rate it? Just a way to remind yourself.
2. How do you determine your book goal? I read daily so a goal of 25 books would be silly, but is 100 to many?
3. If you read a book over again, which I do often do you count that towards your total.
4. What are you starting off the year with??? I’m between a new Jodi Picoult and a Elin Hilderbrand winter series.
I know these question make it seem like I’m taking the fun out of it. I’m not……in fact I’m really excited to read and track. I just want some tips from those who have done this before.
PS Has anyone read The Housemaid? That seems to be the hyped book of 2022. I’m wondering if I should add to my list!

I use the Goodreads app to track my books. I set a goal of 52 books a year- one a week seems doable. I would count a reread as a book read in 2023.

I also use goodreads.com and I also make a goal of 52 a year. The last few years I've managed between 50 & 56 for the year. Some months I find I read a lot, and others I barely crack open a book - well I read on my kobo but same idea LOL And yes I count re-read books because even if I've read them before, its still one I read that year

I look at how many I read the previous year and consider if there were specific circumstances that impacted that number. Last year I read 132 so in 2023 I'm aiming for 150. 3. yes - reading is reading 4. I got the Wolf Hall trilogy in our family book exchange a few days ago and am starting off with that as my print book, I think Carrots will be my first kindle read (it's on a challenge list I'm doing)

I read everything (except research/helpful books) on kindle app so it keeps track for me. I’d count the re-read book for the current year. Do you have any idea how many books you read a week now? How much more do you want to read and think you’ll have time for? I wouldn’t place the goal too high lest it takes some of the enjoyment out of it. I’d just get it in my head that I’ll re-evaluate at the end of the quarter.
My reading goes between silly romance novels and mystery/thriller type book. I’m in the mood for something light so I’ll go look at the hundreds of books I have downloaded and see if a cover stands out for me.

The whole pandemic, lockdowns, family medical issues etc took a real sledgehammer to my reading over the last few years. I just couldn't focus enough.
So I won't be setting any goals except to try. I miss reading, I think I'll start with some light stuff that is not too taxing. I have hundreds of books on my kindle, I need to make inroads.

1. I use a Mac/iOS app called Book Tracker. I really don't care for the social aspect of Goodreads. 2. I don't set goals. I'm a daily reader and read for enjoyment. I don't need another metric to achieve in my life I might set a goal if I was trying to get in the habit of reading more, but I read 74 books last year so I think I'm doing ok. I don't want to compete with myself on a leisure activity. 3. I don't have goals, but if you do, of course re-reads should count. It's still reading. 4. I am currently reading "Dilla Time" by Dan Charnas, "Someone Like Me" by Julissa Arce, and am starting "Demon Copperhead" by Barbara Kingsolver tonight.

I don't set any book or reading goals. When I finish one book, then I start another.
I keep track of what I've read (so I don't accidently check out a book, I've already read....been there, done that) by using an index box and index cards. I read ebooks via the Library website. I love reading Danielle Steel type romance. Simple fluff.
In the last year or two, I've come across many new Authors. Many of the Authors have several series. On one index card....I write down the Authors name, the series name and all the books in the series. I cross off (using a highlighter marker) each book when I am finished reading it.
Edited to add: I am also re-reading some books from favorite Authors from years-decades past.

I base it on life and on the previous year. My goal in 2022 was 75 books. I read 71. Goodreads said, "Better luck next year." <Alllllllllllll the eyerolls.> LOL. My goal this year is 70. 3. Yes. 4. I just finished Look Closer by David Ellis. I highly recommend. So many great twists! I couldn't put it down. It was one of my favorite books of the year. Yes, I read The Housemaid. I also highly recommend it for all the same reasons. (However, the two books are very different from each other.) I'm starting the year with A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meisner. Up next is The Boys from Biloxi by John Grisham. Happy reading! Lisa

I use Goodreads also. I read on my kindle, so when I am done it automatically notes that, and I rate it. I like that. I also have done a written journal for like 40 yrs that I cont to do. I don't know why. I don't write as much in it as I used too. I set my goals pretty low. Last yr was 15, the yr before was 12. A book a month is good for me. This yr I'm doing 20.

I never set a total book goal. Instead I do challenges...for this year I'm doing the alphabet challenge (title, and author), a "books around the world" challenge (read a book set in each area -- Central America, South America, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, etc... there are 13), an Africa challenge (a book set in that country or an author from that country...there are 54), and a "read around America" challenge (a book set in each state). Plus I continue to work on my list of Agatha Christie books.
Yes, I'm crazy. hahahaha But, the Christie one is ongoing, and I suspect the Africa one will be also. I'm going to try to finish the others. And yes, I will count a book in multiple challenges -- at the beginning it's especially easy to do that, like for example the title and author for the two alphabet ones, and the setting (country or US state).
My first book this year is the next in the Phryne Fisher series, "Murder on a Midsummer Night". I'm about 1/3 of the way through.
eta: forgot to answer the other questions, lol... I keep track in a notebook because Goodreads is too "busy" for me. Too much going on, too many things to click on, too many links to follow, etc. haha
And yes, if I reread a book I count it again. My eyes have still moved over those words so it's reading.

I love to read and listen to audiobooks! 1. I keep track on Goodreads 2. I’ve set a goal of 100 books each year since I started tracking them in 2015 3. If I re/read a book, it counts again 4. Right now I’m listening to This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub. I’m a little over 1/2 way in and I’m enjoying it

I’ve always been a huge reader but it’s really taken a backseat the past decade or so. I’d like to read more, so I’m actually going to set a reasonable goal for myself this year. I have used Goodreads to track for years.

I love to read but never ever keep track of how many books I read. gave that up in elementary school. I would count a book that you reread.. as you get a different experience the next time. I am reading a chapter a week of moby dick.. along with my daughter. I read it in high school 50 yrs ago, and it reads much differently today.
I keep a list of possible books on my phone notes. my son has been reading two yrs before the mast.. I need to read that.

1. I've used Goodreads for over 10 years, though I am going to do Storygraph this year concurrently and see if I like that better. I also keep a very rudimentary paper journal, I've done that for years.
2. I didn't hit my goal a year or two, so while I read 156 in 2022, I will probably put 125 as my goal.
3. Absolutely. Why not?
4. I'm in the middle of my IRL book club book called Sold on a Monday.

I also keep a paper reading journal just for fun. 2. Because I'm in school and I work 5 days a week, I don't have as much time for pleasure reading as I would like. Because of that I only set my goal for 26 books/year. Once I am done with school I expect to up my goal to one book per week. 3. I don't re-read books because I have too many new books that I want to read, but reading is reading as far as I'm concerned. If you read a book twice, then count it twice. 4. My first book of the year is "A Street Cat Named Bob" by James Bowen. I picked it up from a Little Free Library when I was dropping off books in November.

1. I use Goodreads. I like the tracking (rating, reviews, tagging, etc) and also like seeing what my friends are reading.
2. I never had goals before and when I decided to do a book goal, I looked at what I typically read in a year and set it for close to that. I'm not concerned about pushing myself or beating it. I would be reading daily even without a goal, but I find it's fun to track. You can always adjust your goal as you go along. If anything, I would set it low the first time so you don't feel any pressure on meeting an arbitrary goal (unless you are someone who likes goals to push you and that is totally fine too).
3. I have not read a book twice in a year, but have reread books in different years and each time it counts towards that year's goal.
4. I'm currently reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami that I won in a Goodreads Giveaway. Next I will read Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson.

I also use Goodreads, it’s easy to track.
I set myself a goal but it doesn’t really phase me if I don’t reach it. Last year I had some significant illness which meant I didn’t read as much for 3 months so I didn’t reach my target. No big deal.
Don’t overthink it, no-one is monitoring you LOL - it’s your challenge. If you want to reread a book and count it or count audio books, go for it.

I track on Goodreads because I like keeping my list of TBR there and checking publication dates. I can look ahead to the publication dates and put holds on those books about 90 days in advance which puts me first in line when it does arrive.
I used to set triple digit goals, but it's just not feasible for me atm. So, I set my Reading Challenge (it's simple to do especially now) and don't worry about it. If I re-read, which I have a few books I do annually, it counts towards my Reading Challenge. If I do an audiobook, it counts towards it. I don't stress about it.
Usually January and February have me indoors so much, I start out with my annual re-reads simply because there isn't a whole lot coming out on my TBR.
Good luck!

1) I track on Good Reads, I started as a way to not repurchase books I already had and not to re-read a book I didn't mean too. I don't rate them. 2) Your goal is what realistically could work for you, that might be 10 books a year it might be 250. My goal the past few years has been 40-52 3) I would count it if you read it twice 4) I'm starting with the newest Louise Penny

1. Where do you track these books? I use Goodreads - I like it because I can track my books and put books on my “to read list”
2. How do you determine your book goal? I don’t have a lot of time to read so I kind of set the goal based on how many books I average a month.
3. If you read a book over again, which I do often do you count that towards your total. Yes
4. What are you starting off the year with??? I have had a book about the actress Mary WIckes, which I have had for some time now - I decided I am going to read it first this year.

1) Goodreads - it’s easy to use and I like to read others reviews and see what my friends are reading.
2) I have kept track of the books I have read since 1993 so I know what a reasonable number is for my goal. Since 1993, the number I have read has ranged from 91 to 145. I am retired now and I set my goal at 120.
3) I don’t reread a lot, but I do count rereads as books read.
4) Starting the year with “Lark Ascending” by Silas House.

Like many others I use Goodreads, mostly because it is automatic via my Kindle. Having a Kindle drastically changed the amount I read. I can read in the dark if I'm having trouble falling asleep (which is becoming a problem more and more). I don't set goals but sometimes will do it mid year depending how I'm trending. I love being able to get new ebooks via the library/Libby App so easily and always have several on hold. I also took advantage of credits via Amazon for delaying shipping this holiday season so I can purchase some books cheaply, too.

1. Where do you track these books? Goodreads - sign up and let us know your user name so you can have some friends 2. How do you determine your book goal? Start with 52 - a book a week. I know some people don't like setting goals but I do, for me it's nothing more than a reminder to read. We have so many options for our leisure time these days and I think if you want to be "a reader" then there's some mindfullness and intention involved. You have to actively choose reading as an activity and a book goal reminds me to do this. Watch another episode of a mindless TV show or sit and read for an hour? The goal reminds me to choose reading. The point isn't to care if you make it or not at the end...staying on the reading journey is the real goal. There's a "Reading Challenge" tracker on GR that updates atomically whenever you finish a book. When you start a book, go to GR and look it up, then select "currently reading" and then "update progress" as you read or just "I'm finished" at the end...and rate it out of 5 stars. 2022 goal was 90 and I read 100, therefore 2023 goal is 100. 3. If you read a book over again, which I do often do you count that towards your total. If I read the whole book, I add it to my total. I don't re-read often, but I say it all counts. And all books count - paper, ebooks, audiobooks etc. Reading has no room for book snobs! 4. What are you starting off the year with??? I've been in a non fiction mood recently, so I finally started a book I've had for a while: Threads of Life: A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle by Clare Hunter. It's about the different types of needlecrafts and the stories behind them. There's a section on the quilt made by female prisoners of war in Changi and when I googled the pictures of it made me cry. It's an audiobook and the narrator Siobhan Redmond is a Scottish actress and has the most beautiful accent. *ETA: I've read The Housemaid, I'm in the minority though of people who didn't like it. It was too unrealistic/unbelievable for me to really buy into the story, and I'm also a bit tired of reading long descriptions of domestic abuse where women are victims.

I also use Goodreads. The huge advantage to me is that I can check to see if I’ve already read a book if it seems familiar. I read on a Kindle. I set 50 for 2022 and read 75. I just set 55 for 2023. I work 32 hrs a week, so I’m just never sure what kind of time I will have.

I do have a Goodreads account, but I keep track in an Excel spreadsheet.
I don't set a goal I just read every day. Whatever I finish with is it. I've been keeping track since 2012. I average 70 books per year. This year I'm low at 62.
I don't usually re-read a book. But if I did I would add it to the books read list.
My first 2023 read is finishing up The Fire and the Ore by Libby Hawker from 2022.

I use the Goodreads app to track my books. I set a goal of 52 books a year- one a week seems doable. I would count a reread as a book read in 2023. This is me exactly. In 2021 I was way over my goal and this year I was 20 books short. I DNF one very long book and it took me a month to put it aside. I also use goodreads, to see what friends are reading, to keep track of what I read, and to write my reviews, which get shared to FB. I have started this year with The Measure, which seems ironically appropriate!

I use goodreads. My goal is 35 books. I read 32 last year. I don't read a lot during the school year.
I use My Novel Companion to keep track and review my books.
I'm starting the year with Children of Blood and Bone for book club
I do not count rereads

I use Goodreads. The last two years I have had my goal set at 40. In 2021 I think I ended at 26 and in 2022 I ended at 38. I kept it at 40 for 2023. I listened to a whole book today while cleaning so I am off to a good start!
