I am so happy about this and so glad she didn't wait for Dianne Feinstein to make a decision.

In the spirit of Elizabeth Warren, she brings facts, figures, and a plan to every fight. I wish I could vote for her myself.

I love, love, love Katie Porter. This make me very happy! Me, too. If I didn't have the two best senators (I'm in VA), I'd want her in my state. As it is, I'm thrilled she is looking long term.

I’m not a fan of Katie Porter and would like to see another CA woman announce her candidacy instead. And yes I want a woman Senator to replace Diane.
Diane Feinstein has filed her papers that she intends to run in 2024. Newsom needs to have a conversation with her and convince her it’s time to retire.
I know Adam Schiff is making noises that he wants to run for the seat as well. So if it comes down to a race between Porter and Schiff I will vote for Porter.
Both are good candidates and would do a good job for CA but I’m looking for someone different who is a woman and who I think can do the job as well as these two could. And I have no idea who this person could be but we do have time until the primary election for them to make themselves known. And for those who don’t know in CA for every election except for the Presidential and some local elections the top two vote getters in the primary move on to the general election. So it could very will be two Democrats running for Senator in the general election.
The woman in the tweet asked the question would you support Katie Porter and some of the replies bring up good points. So if you can take a gander.

She's one to keep an eye on, I hope she's sucessful!
She mentions in the video that she refuses to take corporate PAC and lobbyist campaign money. This is one part of American politics that I just don't get - the amount of money you need behind you to run for anything! How else is she going to get campaign money? And will it be enough without corporate PAC (which I don't really know what it means haha) and lobbyists?

assiemeg.. california is one of the big centers of democratic money.. many candidates running in other states come here to get money donations.. so there is money here.. that don't involve corporations or lobbyists..
we have 50 million people and the 5th largest economy in the world.. lots of people with lots of money

I don't understand the intricacies of campaign finance but I'm sickened at how much money it costs people to get elected. I truly think we'd see a wider variety of better candidates if the amounts of money needed weren't so vast. I've never donated to a political candidate or cause but I would happily give Katie Porter's campaign my money if she gets that far.

I just checked and the estimated number of people in CA for 2022 is 39,185,605. People are leaving the state because of the high cost of living and the lack of affordable housing.

I like Katie Porter and may vote for her in the primary depending on which other Dems run.
I’m 1000% shocked she announced before Feinstein made any sort of decision/announcement.
All this to say I’m extremely concerned that she barely won her House race and that seat could very well flip to red.

Diane Feinstein needs to retire. This may be a move to try to get her to do that; announcing early puts the pressure on.
I’ve really liked Katie Porter when she’s asking questions in hearings.
There are some reports of issues within her office, the way she treats people, but I have no idea if there’s truth behind those.
I was surprised and concerned that she had such a narrow victory in November.
I saw an article where there was already some snark, about her announcing when California is having such serious weather issues. And some of that is from others who are considered likely candidates for Senate.

Diane Feinstein needs to retire, like, last week. I will (for the first time) vote against her in the primary.
Happy to have Katie Porter or Adam Schiff in that seat. I will wait to see who’s running before I think too hard about how to vote.
Still want to know why Wyoming has the same number of Senators as we have. hmmph

She used to rep me but with the redrawn boundaries she is in a much tighter area and I'm represented by a Republican 👎👎👎. While OC had become more purple there is still a very strong Republican presence here.

Yeah, and most of the ones who move to Texas quickly find that their tax burden is higher than it was in CA because of our property and sales taxes, and unless you want to live in a beige McMansion in the far suburbs, housing costs aren't really all that low. All of that and regressive state leadership, fewer services for vulnerable populations, and more. Lots of disgruntled Californians in Austin finding out that the grass wasn't greener.

The woman in the tweet asked the question would you support Katie Porter and some of the replies bring up good points. So if you can take a gander. I took a look and really the only comments against her were from those that think Barbara Lee should get the nomination. And based on reports today, she intends to run. Barbara Lee is 76 now. She would be 78 when taking office for a 6 year senate term. Potentially 84 when running for reelection! No matter how much I like Barbara Lee, I will not be voting for someone in their 70s to start a senate career. She used to rep me but with the redrawn boundaries she is in a much tighter area and I'm represented by a Republican 👎👎👎. While OC had become more purple there is still a very strong Republican presence here. This was the other argument that she barely won her race (true) and couldn't win statewide (not true IMHO). Statewide, CA is way more Dem than GOP compared to her riding. I won't be surprised to see two Dems on the ballot in the end and hope Katie is one of them. As much as I adore Adam Schiff, I don't want two male Senators representing the state.

Absolutely not to electing people in their late 70s to senate seats anew when the literal future of democracy hangs on constantly defending a slim senate majority.
People in that age bracket certainly have more than ample Senate representation.

As much as I adore Adam Schiff, I don't want two male Senators representing the state. She barely won her re-election in a district that has a bunch of Republicans in it. So a question to ask is if she gives up her seat in the 47th District, will the voters in that district elect another Democrat or will the seat go to a Republican? That what was meant by those comments/replies on twitter. IMO. And the next question can she win the election? While she has her fans on this thread she is not the front runner by any means. She is just the first to announce her candidacy. I’m pretty sure there will be two democrats on the ballot for the general election. Which means the winner will have to do well/win in the Democratic strongholds in LA and the Bay Area. Although I suppose you could have a north vs south race depending on who the two candidates are. That would be interesting. In any case we don’t know yet all who will be running to replace Diane Feinstein. But the good news is we, I think, have some good Democratic candidates and don’t have any crazies that identify as Democrats in this state. The crazies seem to flock to the Republican side of the fence. I agree about Barbara Lee’s age and I have said I want another woman to replace Diane. Just not necessarily Katie Porter. I’m hoping for someone better/different that isn’t a male and not as old as Barbara Lee will declare their candidacy. We’ll see.

Just like you believe there are many potential Senate candidates that have yet to be identified, there is undoubtedly solid candidates waiting to run and fight it out in the Primary for her seat. Porter is on the progressive end of the Democrats and maybe a more moderate candidate would win over Independents and centrist GOPin the district?

Maybe and maybe not there is another Democrat that can win in that district. There is also a possibility that she will lose the Senate Race and not be able to win her old seat back in 2026. The down side is CA would lose a Democratic seat in Congress and Katie Porter would no longer be a member of Congress. But we will see what the future holds.
