I have a tiny bunion on one foot and a considerably larger one on the other. Fitting closed toed shoes is a problem!
I just got 2 pairs of leather Clark shoes (Zappos) and they fit ok except for that one area.
Any tips appreciated.
(I almost always wear sandals without socks, living here in Cali.)

I tried and looked up directions on how to do it but with the shoes I had, it didn't help.

There is a higher end independent shoe store by me and the guy that owns it has tools to stretch certain spots. Dh has a bunion, and a pair of leather workboots that just pressed on it to the point he couldn't wear them. We took them down there, and the guy got it stretched just right. We did not buy the boots from him.
You might see if you can find a store like that near you.

Thanks ladies. Sadly, we had a great shoe repair shop here for decades but they closed up shop around 10 years ago. I really miss them. I'll have to look around... but it doesn't seem there are many people who know how to fix/adjust anything anymore. we need lots more trade schools and apprenticeships!

Our shoe repair place closed too. I miss them. I was so stoked when I found out the shoe store owner could do it.
You could always come down here and have lunch with me and go to the guy here. 😀

I haven't done that, but my grandma wore canvas tennis shoes, and she would cut holes in them were the bunions were, so the bunion could just stick out the hole!! I always thought that was hilarious! Now, I have inherited my bunions from her and have been tempted to do the same thing to my shoes, many times!!!

Yup, higher end shoe store if you can't find a shoemaker. That is who stretched shoes for my grandmother.

I don’t have bunions, but I pretty much only wear leather shoes and I sometimes have to stretch them to fit my feet.
I bought stretch spray and stretchers (wooden ones) on Amazon. For slight stretching, I hit the area with my blow dryer and then put on a couple of thick socks. Another thing I’ve seen suggested is to fill a ziploc with water and put it in the shoe, and then put the entire thing in the freezer. (As the water freezes, it expands and stretches the leather.)
Having said that, all of these are for stretching in general, not necessarily for a specific spot. I’m not sure if they will work as well for a targeted area.

I just learned that I too have them. Not sure who gifted them to me bc my parents don’t have them. Has anyone had surgery? I’m not there yet, but I can see it happening.

Amazon sells shoe stretchers for home use and some of them have little attachments to add on for problem areas. I use them all the time and leather shoes stretch out nicely overnight. I think they were $17 but that was a few years ago

My husband had a pair of boots that were really tight in the toes so we went to a shoe repair place to see if they could stretch them a bit. He said to leave the boots on, and he sprayed the toe area with rubbing alcohol. Guess it relaxes the leather some. It worked and the boots were much more comfortable for him.

I had bunion surgery this past summer. I did both feet at the same time. It was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I couldn’t fully bear weight for 8 weeks so I basically “walked” on my heels and the outsides of my feet with the help of crutches. It was totally 100% worthwhile.
