thank goodness. Barilla is my regular brand, I think, but the outcry of the people on IG and Twitter are funny and clever. I live for that kind of rage/humor.

Wow. I have two boxes in my pantry right now and was just thinking I should make some.
Pastina takes me back to my childhood. The family that babysat me was Italian (very Italian). Mrs C. Was a wonderful cook. I loved the days that she made us pastina (it was/is the only place I’ve ever had it) with little pieces of cooked egg in it. I even included it in a letter of 50 memories that I did for Mr and Mrs C for an anniversary book their kids put together.

I can't tell what shape that is. Are they little stars? If so I buy that but it's a Mexican brand 'estrellitas' and we make it like fideo (vermicelli). Same comfort food though

Same comfort food though I had to google it when my cousin's wife was posting about it on FB last week - yes little stars. I've never actually had it - which is funny as we're big Italian eaters, but it's never even been on my radar at all. Maybe it was less common on West Coast? She grew up on the East Coast.

Lots of other companies make it Yes, but if you are brand loyal (which I am not) and it is one of your favorites I can see the outrage…😉😄. I keep thinking I should go see the brand(s) of the two I have, they might become valuable. 😆

My mom always made this recipe with pasting: chicken broth or bouillon cubes to make at least 6-8 cups, box of pasting, 1/2 stick of butter, and Parmesan cheese. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Its brothy, creamy, soupy and so good. Childhood comfort! We would dip toast or plain sliced bread into it. Poor people food but so good!

It probably has to do with the extruder equipment used to shape the pasta. We had a similar outcry when we could no longer find anyone to repair the machine that made animal fries at the zoo!

There are several other companies that make it - I honestly can't tell you the last time I bought Pastina. I typically prefer Barilla pasta.

I am very brand loyal to Ronzoni (like so much my husband thinks it's a bit obsessive) but I don't think I ever bought pastina.

East coaster, Italian…
Growing up, all beef/venison and chicken scraps of all kinds were cut to soup size and went into bread bags in the freezer (separate lol although I think pork went in with the beef.) Anyway, same with leftover veggies. Once a bag was about two adult fist sizes full, the meat, and frozen veggies and other veggies (usually corn/pea/carrot frozen mix) and some canned (homemade) tomato’s were added to the pot, brought to boil for a couple minutes, then pastina added to the pot, the heat turned off, and we had soup and bread for lunch.
It was always made when someone was sick, and without fail it was loved.
I still do it from time to time. But my son prefers farfalle.

I also dont know of anywhere that sells Ronzoni.

My kids are sad. Pastina with butter was the go-to remedy when they were little and sick.

Pastina with butter was breakfast food in my Italian family.
A bowl of pastina brings back happy memories.
Ronzoni pasta is available in SoCal but very limited selection and availability even at Italian markets.

I’ve never seen this brand in the mountain west, although I haven’t looked for it.

Does anybody else remember Campbell's Chicken With Stars condensed soup from the 70s-80s? It was very beloved by small children, including me, especially when I had a cold or stomach bug. That was how I encountered pastina.

And that exactly when eat it— with chicken broth when I’m not feeling well.

I probably looked at this in grocery store, thought what do you do with tiny little pasta, and promptly forgot its name. I'm tempted to make the soup now.
