That poor baby. It makes me so, so sad.

Not that it matters for the point, but that kid doesn't to me look like or move like a toddler. It looks to me like a four or five year old, which I mention because the whole thing -- unsupervised kid, not wearing clothes, a little older than most kids wear diapers -- suggests general neglect as well as the endangerment (believe me, well aware that kids that age for various reasons might be wearing a diaper with good, attentive parents).

I thought he looked older when I watched it too. And the way he handles the gun was just so scary and seemed experienced. Of course, I can't tell how tall he is from the video, but regardless of his age, he should not be outside his apartment in diapers with no one watching him. I hope this now gets him some proper supervision.

A lot of people call their kids toddlers when they are, technically, preschoolers. Either way, he shouldn’t have been able to get a gun and was clearly not well supervised overall. hopefully he is in a safer place now.

All he had to do was shoot out one of the apartment doors and killed someone.

I used to live in Beech Grove. Always in the news for the wrong stuff...women fighting in walmart went viral a few years back. This is horrifying. I'm betting this isn't the first time that child has held a gun. Or been unsupervised. So sad.

It's so shocking that it even made the news here in Australia. I'm so glad we have tough gun laws here.

I second that Judie in Oz. I hope that dear little fellow has some decent relatives that will take him.

Reports say the kid is 3, but I find that hard to believe! I don’t. I personally know someone whose kid at three years old was as big as a six year old. I saw the kid and asked the mom if he was in kindergarten or first grade and she laughed at me and said, “Oh no, he’s only THREE! He’s not even in pre-k yet! Yeah, he’s a *really* big boy.” 😳😬

Hopefully it isn't a real gun..
Doesn't too much matter the age of the kid. Still a kid regardless. My 2yr old gbaby wears size 4 and 5 on the regular because she's so tall for her age. He could be younger than his height shows, he's a bit more than half the height of the door, my gbaby is nearly half of her front door and turns 2 this week..

Reports say the kid is 3, but I find that hard to believe! Remember there is a big difference in a child who just turned 3 and one who's going on 4. My niece was super tall for her age and people always assumed she was older. We have family friends who's 5 year old is taller than the average 2nd grader. His parents are 6'5 and 6'3. Regardless of how old the kid is or looks it's really sad he had access to a gun and was left unsupervised.

Speaking as mom of an almost six-foot 12-year-old girl back in the day, kids come in all sizes.
Let’s focus on the fact that this kid had access to a loaded gun and was wandering around outside by himself.

Hopefully it isn't a real gun.. Per the headline above, the gun is real and was loaded. In the article it mentions that the kid pulled the trigger but it didn’t shoot because there wasn’t a bullet in the chamber.

The fact that most of the responses here are debating the kids age, size and if it’s a “toddler” above anything else is so deeply disturbing. Are you really that numb to gun violence that’s your focus? Some of you need some serious retrospection. This country is doomed.

We were watching On Patrol Live when this happened. At first police acted like they weren't very concerned since the dad said he didn't own a gun and they didn't locate one(after a very minimal search). They told the 911 caller that they didn't find one, even after the caller explained that she sold guns and knew it was real. As they were leaving the building a person stopped them, because she had video on her ring camera. After viewing it, they went back in the apartment and quickly found the gun. It was concerning to us that they were leaving without really searching or questioning the little boy. I would've thought that they would at least ask him if he was playing with a gun. Real or otherwise.

This SHOULD be shocking, but unfortunately it’s not really. With gun laws practically non existent or unenforced in many states in the US, this is going to happen more and more often. Same with the 6 year old shooting a classmate. It’s the inevitable end result of gun culture gone wild.

This make my blood run cold. I cannot imagine a child playing with a gun. I also don't why this does not scare everyone and there is not a call to action about guns. Children should be protected from the country's love affair with guns.

It doesn’t matter what age the kid is, he shouldn’t have had access to a gun, period. It’s so messed up.

The dad is a convicted felon. So this was what you'd call an illegal gun, yes?
That father should not have custody of a child, and that is sad bc the foster care system isn't great either.
I am glad that child didn't kill someone. He could have.

So, wait. The police either didn’t check or care that the father was a convicted felon, in which case the presence of a gun would be a crime. They basically took his word for it. If the neighbor did not have footage to show them, nothing would have happened.
So I am disgusted by this father’s criminal behavior.
I’m also very disappointed in the police’s response.
