Always, always use a top sheet. I loathe taking the duvet cover off to wash it and then struggling to put it back on. It’s such a pain in the ass.

I slept at my friend's house one time and there was no top sheet. Hated it. Just having an unwashed (I assumed) comforter on top of me grossed me out and I am not generally really that squeamish.
I like sleeping with just a sheet on now and then and would miss that.

I don't feel like a grown-up without a top sheet. Bare comforter is something I did when I was a teenager or early 20s, when I never made the bed either. Plus now I have a BedJet and it needs its own top sheet. It's the best invention ever. That BedJet sounds like heaven.

I use a top sheet. In winter I use two, one cotton that came in the set and one flannel on top of that. Then a matelassé quilt, then a patchwork quilt made by DH’s grandmother. In summer I remove the flannel sheet and grandma quilt. I cannot sleep without something on me, so in summer it’s the cotton top sheet. I only wash the quilts when absolutely needed, especially the handmade one.

I put a top sheet on in the winter because I love the extra weight and warmth but not in the summer. Putting on a duvet cover isn’t that bad! 😄

Top sheet here. We just have a regular comforter, no duvet cover.

When I lived in the UK we never used top sheets with the duvets but since living in the US my DH has always used a top sheet. Personally I prefer not to have a sheet as the duvet/comforter seems more cosy without a sheet but the sheet does mean less fighting to get a cover on after washing.

Back when we had a comforter I always used a top sheet also. Now we just use a blanket and yes I still have the top sheet. First of all, when you buy sheets the set comes with bottom and top sheets so it never occurred to me not to use the top one. What do you do with it if you don't use it -- just get rid of it? And second, in the winter we use flannel sheets and I love the feeling of the flannel near my face. No top sheet here. I wash the duvet cover with my sheets weekly. Dh and I have our own twin sized duvets because Dh is miserable to share covers with. I don't use the burrito method in the video shown. I do it the way my landlord in Germany showed me. It takes me longer to put on a fitted sheet and put pillowcases on pillows than it does to put on my duvet covers. As for what to do with the top sheet that comes with a set of sheets, our bed is king size and a king size top sheet make a great twin sized duvets cover!

I have a king-size bed and can't put my duvet cover on by myself (probably not even with the burrito method from the video), so I use a top sheet.
Sometimes I get hot and just want to have the top sheet on without the warmth of the duvet so that keeps me comfy!

No, we don't use a top sheet. I just end up kicking it to the end of the bed.

I've never owned a top sheet. It's just a duvet in its' cover for us, washed every time the sheets are washed. Spare duvet covers and spare bottom sheets are stored inside the pillowcase to make a neat little package.

I love the top sheet. I have it tucked in tightly. I have to fix it if dh wiggles it loose. I light toe pressure it gives. And in the summer its just enough for hot summer nights.

Yes always. And if too warm can just pull the sheet up over me and not the quilt.

we always use a top sheet. i don't know a circumstance where we would not.
ETA: if i had to sleep at someone's house and there was no top sheet, i would question what else in the house was not getting washed regularly.

I quit using a top sheet. I can be restless enough that the top sheet becomes all untucked and then migrates to the bottom of the bed. I just wash my duvet cover weekly.
I did a trip to Germany in December and the hotel that we stayed at did not have a top sheet. Just the bottom sheet, the duvet with comforter inside and a couple of extra blankets.

I use a quilt instead of a top sheet, this is my envelope of warm.
Bottom sheet> me> quilt 1> duvet 1 > Duvet 2> and quilt 2.
For this to work, all layers have to be tucked under my feet.

I put a top sheet on in the winter because I love the extra weight and warmth but not in the summer. Putting on a duvet cover isn’t that bad! 😄 We took off the top sheet last night and this morning both dh and I were saying how freeing it had felt. It’s still summer here so we’ve decided we’re going to keep it up at least until it gets colder but we both love the cosy feeling of slipping between flannelette sheets in winter so we may do what you do and put on a top sheet then.🤔 One thing I hadn’t thought of until I went to make the bed this morning - no hospital corners to deal with. DH always kicks undone the top sheet on his side when he gets in because he feels like it scrunches his toes. And I always sigh a little when I’m remaking his side of the bed, but not today!😃😂

I was wondering the same thing. Is it that the us peas mean the actual duvet ie just the duvet where duvet in the uk generally means a duvet and cover?

In Europe everyone sleeps with a duvet no top sheets and we each have our own duvet (twin size )now in the Rv the bed is smaller it’s a short queen and having two duvet didn’t work so we are sharing a queen duvet . We wash the duvet cover every week.

The first thing I do at hotels or Airbnbs is take blankets, comforters, etc. and throw them in a corner or somewhere out of the way because they never get washed and I am completely icked out by them. Thankfully I’ve never been to a hotel without a top sheet in the US.

For me it’s because I don’t believe people are actually washing the blankets or duvet covers as often as I wash my sheets (of course the Perfect Peas TM say they are, but the general public? They’re not. And hotels, etc. definitely are not).

It occurs to me that if we were to ditch the top sheet w e'd need multiple duvet covers all of the time Yes! Because one of the great joys in life is buying more doona covers! How you have just one? That's not normal. I have about 10, a flannel one for winter, one with flowers for spring, a cute cat one for when I'm single, and more sophisticated grown up one for when I'm seeing someone. A purple one because I like the colour, a green one because it looks good with my wall colour, another green one to match the new green blanket I bought blanket, a grey one because I liked it...you get the idea. But back to the top sheets...never use them. I have a feather doona because I like light weight bedding, and I hate anything that gets tangled...I never wear PJ pants or a nightie for that reason. I wash my doona cover and my sheets at the same time. I don't understand why people think washing the covers is a big deal, and it literally only takes me 1-2 minutes to put the cover back on.

Never owned one. I don't know anyone who does. It's not that bad changing a duvet cover. I don't get why it would be any more unclean than a top sheet.

No. I've never used a top sheet with a duvet. That's what duvet covers are for. They are perfect because they envelop the duvet and protect it, while acting as a "top sheet" to your body. You don't need a top sheet when you use a duvet with a duvet cover, you only need a bottom sheet and your pillow + pillow case.
I was born in Germany and spent the first 6 years of my life there. With a German mother and grandmother down duvets with duvet covers were a part of life. We called them "featherbeds". When we moved to the USA we brought them with us. I'm used to them and prefer sleeping like this. I can put a duvet cover on fairly easily-it's takes me no more time than putting on a set of sheets.

How you have just one? That's not normal. Well, we have one a season thats four a year, but otherwise yeah, it’s looking like that’s about to become a thing of the past for us. 😂 Wait, what? Flannelette duvet covers exist? 🤯 Where’s my credit card... And purple’s a great colour! The biggest hit dh and I had with the gifts we gave this past Christmas was the vintage purple Nikes we found for yds.💜😍 Ha! I can just see the headlines now... “Multiple firefighters hospitalised following fight over rescue of high-rise damsel-in-distress”🤣🤣🤣
