If one reads the article NPR wrote about the Presidential Papers Act you get the impression this does happen and I guess more then a few times.

Seems so... First a trip to Virginia then on to Indiana. Know he didn't own a house in Indiana when he left office. He had been using the governor's mansion address as his residence, voting etc...
The classified documents were discovered at Pence’s new home in Carmel, Indiana, by a lawyer for Pence in the wake of the revelations about classified material discovered in President Joe Biden’s private office and residence, the sources said. The discovery comes after Pence has repeatedly said he did not have any classified documents in his possession. ***
The classified material was stored in boxes that first went to Pence’s temporary home in Virginia before they were moved to Indiana, according to the sources. The boxes were not in a secure area, but once the classified documents were discovered, the sources said they were placed inside a safe located in the house.

Pence, up until the other day, would have raised his hand. He has repeatedly stated he did not have any classified documents in his possession.

Why did Pence's attorneys look for documents in a house he didn't even live in or own while in office?!? In Biden case they were emptying a closed office. Possibly there could have been Biden personal papers there too?

Talk about double standards.
By the way have they searched all of trump’s residences and Ivanka’s grave?

I hate to agree with Linsey Graham, but maybe we are overclassifying things.
I would imagine that many professionals take work home, and that many of the documents are meant to remain private. I guess I'd like more information on classification levels. Not everything is TOP SECRET.
Off to consult Google . . .

Clearly we do not have a very good classified documents policy and/or we are not following it at all.
Clearly this needs to be addressed

Just a little blurb...
The Trump team thinks that it will make it difficult for prosecutors to justify bringing charges against the former president without charging Pence and Biden.

There wouldn’t have been and FBI ‘raid’ if he had just given them back when repeatedly asked. Now that the FBI has searched Biden’s house he doesn’t have much to squawk about. Although, as President Biden can have documents. He just has to give them all back by the time he leaves office.

I suspect that this has happened a lot. Clearly the system for classified docs needs a review.

Even if the documents are from when he was a senator and VP? No, those should have been returned. As I said, clearly we do not have an adequate policy on classified documents. And how many other senators & ex senators have documents? We have a long way to go to resolve this at this point.

When President Obama was in office, he said there was a problem with how documents were classified and tried to fix it. But whatever he did clearly didn’t go far enough. I hope Trump is prosecuted for obstruction of justice but that seems like a long shot at this point.

When Walmart delivers my groceries, I sign for them. They take a picture of my door and number.
With technology there is no reason, now, not to have a superior system tracking documents every time they change hands. Last on the list is responsible.

Exactly there simply is NO reason for this, and it’s all of them apparently. My elementary school librarian kept better track of who had books and who turned them in and she was dealing with children. It’s simply carelessness and lack if having and or adhering to a proper procedure or protocol. It’s embarrassing
