I'm pretty sure I will. I did watch the Duggar's in the beginning and probably up to nearly the end. I knew at some point... the family main people (mom/dad/oldest son) mainly the dad... started to disgust me. But never thought bad of the younger ones who really didn't have a choice at that time. I always like Jinger as she always seemed different. And I feel even some of them are so brainwashed I can't hardly be disgusted at them.. but sad. Anyways.. I would like to hear how she got out of it and moved on. www.amazon.com/Becoming-Free-Indeed-Story-Disentangling/dp/1400335817

I never did watch the show but I am curious what she has to say about what happened. I don't think I know any of the family well enough to be able to follow along but I am interested in hearing what she has to say about all the abuse.
From what I understand she moved on from that religion to another that's fairly similar so IDK how her views have changed all that much?
and no shame on following reality tv stars, <shrug> I love me my Housewives and Sister Wives drama so no judgement from me.
Come back and share the dirt!

I never watched them, and I never paid much attention to them at all so Iβm not going to start now.

I only watched their show when I visited my mom, because my mom watched it. I'm a bit interested in what she has to say, but I don't plan on buying her book...I'll probably get enough info from interviews and book reviews.

It's on my list for the library, and by the number in line I am, so are many others. Just at my local library I'm like number 982 in line. I used to watch them as they were building the big house and a little after that, so maybe 2-3 seasons, but then moved on.
If it keeps my attention, I'll finish it, if not, no loss on moving on to something else.

Doubt I will unless I happen upon it in the library, even though the crazy family compound is about 30 miles away from me. But Iβll be waiting for you to share the good stuff!

Like Yvonne said, I think she made a fairly lateral move, but hopefully, it will lead to some actual deconstruction on her part. I would be interested in what it says, but I am guessing it will still be a pretty limited viewpoint. I won't spend money on it, but I would probably read it if it was just sitting around.

I probably will. I don't really care about them too much, but still...nosy curiousity, I guess.

I really dislike most reality TV shows, I've never watched even a second of their show, I'm an atheist and their religion sickens me, but..... I'd love to read the book! I don't have a problem with my money going to her. She was an innocent child when her parents thrust her and her siblings into the limelight, it's not something she chose for herself. And if she can make money off that awful family, then good for her!

I am tempted to read it as she has had to deal with some pretty dodgy teachings and views about gender and herself. I am interested how she has unpicked these. Although I don't have a faith, I am OK with others having one as long as it supports them and does not fill them with guilt and shame or make them want to inform their rules and world view on everyone else. I didn't think her new church was like the cult she was raised in, but I might be wrong.
Her parents making money off her not ok, but her making money sharing her voice I am OK with.

I'm interested but I don't want to buy it and fund her husband's expensive sneaker addiction. π I think it will be more bland than people expect, too. So I'll probably just read reviews on the snark subreddits. And one of my favorite podcasts, Leaving Eden, is doing an episode on the book this weekend and both hosts will have read it and will have insightful things to say.

I never watched the show and know nothing about her, I probably wouldn't spend the time to read the book unless there turns out to be something super interesting in it. But I also didn't think I would read Prince Harry's book either and I did when the opportunity arose even though I wasn't particularly interested.

The female host grew up Independent Fundamental Baptist and got out in her early 20s. The male host is Jewish and is regularly horrified at Christian extremism. They are funny and bright people, very empathetic. They have several episodes on the Duggars and their belief system and their horrible oldest son.

I'm on the waiting list at my library to read it, and I might or might not get around to it when my turn comes. I enjoy memoirs if they are well written. I've read dozens of them over the years. I assume she probably had a good ghost writer and the book is therefore well written. I like to read stories about people who were raised in different circumstances than my own.
