Maybe something exciting to share, anyway. LOL
I may be starting a masters program in creative writing. I've been thinking about this for a long time, and there is an online program at a local college (Lindenwood University in St. Charles MO) that offers an MFA in creative writing. What I like about the program is there are three different tracks you can take, and one of them is creative non fiction writing, which is what I am interested in. I do a great deal of writing in my job, and I would like to do more. I started a different program at a local community college for a certificate in creative writing 2 years ago. I was at the very end of my first class, which I loved and did well in, when the shit hit the fan in my life. In fact, the day my last assignment was due was the day I started discovering alllllll the crap with my stbx. It kind of took the wind out of my sails, and I never took another class.
I am trying to set up a meeting with someone from the college to see if I can swing the tuition, and if I can, I'm going to do it! It may be a bad time to start something like this, but it feels right for some reason.
I don't want to say anything to anyone in my real life yet, so I thought I would share here. Writing is something I have always loved, since I was a child. I started college as a journalism major but hated the job I had at a newspaper while in college, so I changed majors to psychology. LOL
I'm excited but nervous. So nervous! The program starts in the middle of March, and if that one doesn't work out, if that doesn't give me enough time to figure out financial aid, I will have to wait, but it's something I really want to work out.
Am I stupid for starting something like this now?? Tell me if I am! LOL Besides being in the midst of a divorce, I am also turning 60 this year. LOL
ETA: EEEEEEK. I have a phone meeting with someone from the school about the program at 1:30 today! Did I say EEEEK? LOL
**Update after my phone call today
Thanks for the encouragement, everyone.
I had a phone call about the program. It sounds perfect for me but holy $$. I can fill out FAFSA and get loans. Also, if I wait until I turn 60, they have a program where I can get half off the tuition. I would need to wait until August to start the program because that is the first one that begins after I turn 60 in June.
I may take a class starting in March just to get my feet wet. I don't have to be officially enrolled in the MFA program to do that.
