Saw his shadow today which supposedly means 6 more weeks of winter. Since he’s only been right about 40% of the time here’s hoping he’s wrong again.

Ha ha, I looked it up today too whether he saw his shadow or not, even though where I live it’s pretty much guaranteed that we will always have at least six more weeks of winter after February 2nd. Most of the time there’s still snow on the ground at Easter.

This tradition seems so weird to me. I live in Michigan. Of course we are going to have 6 more weeks of winter. And isn't he in Pennsylvania? Of course PA is going to have 6 more weeks of winter. So who exactly is this supposed to be referring to?

As a Canadian, we’d love to only have six more weeks of winter. Some of our worst blizzards have been in April.

When you think about it, the first day of Spring is March 20th. So of course there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Literally. 😆

Staten Island Chuck made his prediction today too, early spring. Since I’m closer to New York then Punxsutawney, PA I’m cheering for Chuck since he supposedly has a 82% success rate.

They interrupt the Today show for a 10 or 15 minute live broadcast of the whole ordeal, complete with a stage full of old/middle age white men (the “inner circle” 🙄) in top hats and other strange garb and they go on and on about the tradition and how the main guy can understand Phil and he gets the word on which scroll Phil wants him to read for the prediction yada yada yada. So very strange. Usually we shut the tv off but my husband and I for some strange reason watched it this morning. Never again.

And I'm normally one who is fine with weird. LOL.

Groundhog Day, February 1887.So, based off an ancient Christmas tradition that's now been changed around from candles to hedgehogs to groundhogs. I find that as I get older, some of these cute holidays mean less and less.

I was just thinking the older I get, the more I think we need to keep some of the things that are just silly fun in the world. I don’t think it really means anything. And groundhogs are cute.

We have a local groundhog and he didn't see his shadow so I go by him...of course it is raining and overcast today so I am sure there was no shadow cast anyway

I always feel bad for the poor groundhog. I mean he's just chilling in his den then gets hauled out in front of everyone. IT's got to be stressful.
For us, Groundhog day is DS's birthday - he's 14 today. Cookies and Creme cake tonight for dessert!

Way back 40 years ago in the Army, I was friends with a guy from Punxsutawney. He was so over the whole groundhog thing. 😁
I always figured it was a way for Punxsutawney to stay relevant.

As a Canadian, we’d love to only have six more weeks of winter. Some of our worst blizzards have been in April. No kidding. I'd be happy with less than 3 months of winter left. Mid-late May are the worst blizzards, the leaves are out the snow is wet and branches break.

Old white men😀I’ll not look at the tradition the same! We are on day four of winter weather. I am soooo over it.

I love the Bill Murray movie.
Had fun sending a few gifs about it to my sillier coworkers in Teams today.
So, I guess I'm pro-Groundhog Day.

Yes, Phil is more likely to be wrong than right. We have a resident groundhog on our property. He lives under the hydrangea bush and happily gobbles up weeds in the summer. It's been rainy all day here today so if he came out of his den (and I doubt he did), he would not have seen his shadow.

I had to watch a documentary about Phil called 'Groundhog Town'. I didn't realize how much Groundhog Day meant to the city. It was about the cancelled day in 2021 due to covid and the effect it had on the town's economy and collective mood.
