230 million subscribers and 100 million of them share accounts (although they didn't say how the acocunts were share. just that they were shared). i can see why netflix is in a tizzy. This makes me wonder if they are skewing the numbers tho. Like I have an account. I get access to 2 screens(devices) at a time. Up until last year, they were all accessed from my house, which has 4 people living in it. So my 1 account was shared by 4 family members in 1 location, 2 could use at a time. To me, I am in compliance - or was each of my family members supposed to have a membership? we clearly have our own profile, each of us. My sister gets Netflix from our cousin, and they do not live in the same house. THat is not in compliance.

THat is not in compliance. i think they might be skewing the numbers to justify charging more for the "sharing". regardless of how little or how many the unauthorized sharees (is that a word?) are, it's still money out of Netflix's pockets and not fair to those who abide by strictest sense of their rules.

My sister gets Netflix from our cousin, and they do not live in the same house. THat is not in compliance. To me you were totally following the rules. You pay for two screens and in your own house you can only have two screens going at once. So if you and dh are watching a movie in one room, and dd is watching something in another room, then ds is out of luck. If he tries to watch something on his own screen he'll get that message that says he can't because the two screens that you are paying for are in use. This is what caused me to increase our account to four screens. lol. Also, in my opinion if you are paying for two screens then you should be able to choose which two... So now that dd is away at college if you wanted her to be the second then I think you should be able to do that. You'd still have the one screen at home (for you, dh, and ds to fight over, haha) and you are paying for two screens, so.... And if dd isn't watching it at the moment over there in her dorm room, and you want to use two screens at home....well, to me that's still legal because you are paying for two screens. But I guess there is some grey area because dd could be sharing her log-in with all her suite mates who are then trying to watch Netflix when dd is in class (vs. dd watching it in her room along with those friends). That's probably not legal. So how will Netflix work all this out? No idea, lol. But I do know that if they make it so that my kids can't watch Netflix on my account, where I am paying for four screens, then I'll just change our account back to two. So they lose money anyway.

I have a real problem with this because T-Mobile pays for my Netfix. My daughter is part of our plan and her name is associated with our account. She is in grad school in another state. She SHOULD be allowed to use our account since we still pay for a lot for her. My son is also in college and while he is in state, he lives off campus. Again, he is associated with our account and should be able to use our account.
I don't agree with this decision at all and I don't know how T-Mobile is going to deal with it.
