I need some fashion design help pretty please. My DS is getting married in April. I have my dress and jacket and have been informed that I should wear a hat or fascinator. Well there lay the problems,
I`m only 5 feet tall. In a wheelchair so everyone looking down at my head. Oxygen tube looped around ears, so no headband. Short grey/white hair, long oval face shape. Jacket and clutch bag are a blush pink, very subtle. I feel and look a right plonker in a full hat.
Think that about covers it.
Help needed please. Off to bed now so replies will be tomorrow. Thanks peas

When you say you’ve been informed does that mean there’s no room for discussion?
I generally dislike fascinators, sorry…maybe you could find something else that’s decorative…I’ll put my thinking fascinator on 😁

I have never heard of a fascinator but after googling it, I would say no to that.
If he is insistent that you wear a hat then google 'small wedding hat' and try to find one that will be unobtrusive and possibly in the blush color - that would look good with your hair color. Maybe one that you can just pin with a bobby pin.
Good job having the rest of your outfit ready already and congrats on the upcoming marriage!

Could you get the florist to make you up a large clip with flowers attached, that match (or pick upthe colours of) the other flowers?

Could you get the florist to make you up a large clip with flowers attached, that match (or pick upthe colours of) the other flowers? I was thinking this, or a decorative clip. You don’t want anything with a brim or dangling feathers, as it would then be difficult to see your face by anyone standing and talking to you.

I like fascinators and they usually sit on a comb or thin elastic strap around the back of the head so would you feel comfortable in that? Up here they are sold through the local bridal shop, lingerie shop or florist and I’m sure the girl who makes them to order would do a home call. Is it worth asking those type of places where you live to see if they know of a similar service?

I have a couple of fascinators that have long clip and are similar to what Sock posted. I love the idea of the florist making something!

I can't post photos, but what about something kind of like this? etsy linkI don't know if that one fastens with a clip, but I see several like that around that are fairly small and fasten with a clip or a comb. And I like gar's idea of flowers - you could have it made up more corsage-like (yet still appropriate) where they sometimes add in little sprays of pearls and ribbon, more like a fascinator would be. That may not fit your dictated, er, suggested dress code, though.

Is is possible to get extra fabric that matches your jacket and clutch and use that to have a fascinator made? or maybe use the fabric to make ribbon? Or would that be too matchy matchy?

The two fascinators that I have are built upon a headband with ribbons and netting added from there. (PS-I prefer fascinators over big, fluffy hats for Kentucky Derby-themed events I prefer to be able to see, lol.)

I'm not a fan of them, to be honest. I would always go for a hat, or a decorative hairband or fancy clip. Etsy has some fab ones. Last wedding I went to, I wore a vintage styled hairclip, and lots of the female guests had flowers or hairbands.

Congrats on your son’s upcoming wedding!
I may be wrong, but I sense you don’t really want to wear a hat or fascinator. Is it the bride and groom who has requested you to wear a fascinator? If so, and they are not too stressed about the wedding, I suggest you explain to them why you are not comfortable wearing hats. If someone else said you needed to wear a hat or fascinator and you don’t want to, I’d ignore the advice, or talk to the bride and groom about it.

No one is insisting I wear a hat, it is just that I haven`t been to a Wedding for many years and thought I should pull out all the stops.. Bride and Groom wouldn`t care if I wore my old biker gear. I think I might go with a simple clip that I will make myself. Looked at the links left for me here and had a trawl around Etsy and think I will be able to fix something together. Nearly fainted at some of the prices too.

Combination of the tube plus my glasses and small ears puts me off a headband style pjaye.

I really love the one that gar posted! And the eucalyptus color would be stunning with your hair and the blush pink! I think you'd be able to make something like that, and you could probably use fake eucalyptus if you wanted and still have it look real. (I'm picky about fake flowers and greenery, but I feel like they've been able to do well with eucalyptus.)
