I am going to apply for a passport, for the first time ever. I have never had any real desire to travel out of the country, even though I love to travel, so I have never even thought about getting a passport. But as I have shared here before, my son recently met a girl from Mexico, fell in love, and moved there. They want me to come visit this spring or summer, so clearly I need a passport. It's silly, but I am ridiculously excited to get a passport. LOL

I traveled so much after I got mine that my GF said, "You are going to wear that passport out!"
In the digital age, the pages are no longer stamped when you visit a country and I miss that.

I had a passport as a kid because my father was military and we were stationed in Belgium.
But as an adult I just recently got my first passport so that I can take a girls trip to Cancun next month! I'm beyond excited!
Just make sure whoever takes your passport photo follows the directions to a T. I had mine done at Walgreens.
My first photo was rejected because my bangs were too close to my eyes. I wear it long to one side so when I retook the photo (Walgreens retook for free) I pulled that way back and now my new photo makes me look like a dude LOL at least according to my grandson.
But they accepted the new photo and my passport arrived a couple weeks ago.

Depends on the country - lots still stamp - looking at my passport for last couple years, I'd actually say 80% still stamp.

Yay for taking this step. And don’t stop at Mexico, amazing as it is. That passport will be valid for ages, so take advantage and see the world.

How fun! We took a honeymoon (four years later) to Mexico. We've been back five or six more times since then. It is such a lovely place. Enjoy!

I’ve been to Mexico, Canada, and a few islands in the Caribbean and never needed a passport. I guess they were not required back then? I doubt I will be traveling anywhere that I would have to have one now. I would be excited to need one though!

Nice! We got our first passports in 2019 and finally got to use them in 2022.
We did ours at the post office- they take the picture and everything.

We just renewed the kids' and I expedited it since we are traveling April 1 and the 6-8 weeks for regular processing was too close for comfort.

And some will if you ask for it, although they may have to go retrieve the physical stamp. There can be good reasons to do this (beyond the fact that I wouldn't trust the reliability of some countries' computer record backups, necessarily). loyaltylobby.com/2022/05/14/entry-exit-passport-stamps-are-still-available-even-as-some-countries-officially-did-away-with-them/

Yay! And, Mexico to visit your ds and his partner sounds like a great first trip! You'll have someone to stay with, and someone who speaks the language fluently and who knows the area.

Interesting. We just moved back from Belgium and I have lots of stamps in my passport. But if you travel within the Schengen area, a lot don’t stamp passports (or even check them), even if you aren’t a EU citizen. Just T—you will love traveling!

You can hear those stamps just a-goin' when you hit customs!
