You first wake up?
I’ve noticed mine is less garbagy if I do NOT BRUSH the night before.
But I can’t do that. Can’t skip brushing.
I think it’s getting worse as I get older.

Hmm. Whatcha' doing after your brush your teeth that would affect the way your mouth tastes? LOL Im joking.
But no, I haven't noticed that for myself. I do drink some water after teeth brushing and before sleeping so I wonder if that helps?

I do drink some water after teeth brushing and before sleeping so I wonder if that helps? I drink sips of water all night long. I think one of the pills that I take in the evening before bed is the cause of making me thirsty. Yes, it makes me have to get up and pee a few times during the night, but I find continually sipping water keeps my mouth feel cleaner. I do the same thing all day long, but consume much more water during the day. I have my metal water tumbler with me at all times. I even take it in the car and sometimes into the store, depending on the type of store. I read somewhere that drinking water is very helpful for your teeth. Something about reducing the acid in your mouth.

Maybe you have nighttime reflux.

The toothpaste could be drying your mouth out at night while you sleep, especially if you have the heater on. I rinse after brushing with Biotene. Also, I hate to sleep with the heater on because that also dehydrates you.

Yes, it's terrible. I figure I probably mouth breathe at night since I'm always congested from allergies when I lay down.

Just the usual stale morning breath. Not overly offensive.
How are your sinuses and teeth? Sinus infection and teeth issues(abscess, decay, etc...), can cause heinous funky smelling breath.
I always get a weird taste in my mouth, when I have a sinus infection.

Sometimes. It happens when my allergies and/or sinuses are acting up and I have been mouth breathing throughout the night.

Mine happens with certain things I've eaten or if it's too close to bed time. Probably reflux although I don't take medicine for that.

Yes, but I use edibles in the evening and then brush my teeth but my mouth is rough or feels rough. This is normal for me.

I was told that oxygen causes mouth bacteria to grow, so if you sleep with your mouth open you will have halitosis worse than normal.
Also, do you brush your tongue? I had never really head about brushing your tongue before a dental hygenist about 10 years ago ask me if I wanted a tongue scrapper. A what? Scraps the yuckies off your tongue. About the only time I do brush my tongue is when I'm going to the dentist. ha!

I haven't had any reflux symptoms. I do have sort of chronic sinus issues This is probably the source of your problem. I have chronic sinus problems too and wake up with garbage breath when my sinuses are particularly bad. Something else that can give you horrible bad breath are tonsil stones. Unless you really want to be grossed out don’t Google it.

I have noticed in the last year my mouth is so dry like a desert when I wake up.. I usually can drink a bunch of water right before bed as well and still dry. It's like the well dried up about 9pm and I can't get enough water. When I wake up it's like my mouth is weird feeling mostly in the roof. Takes a brushing and breakfast before feeling normal. Old. Sucks.
