I am going to change out my home keyboard (yes, for a mechanical one). I have always used a keyboard that has a 10-key numpad off to the side. I do a lot of number crunching at work, so I am used to it. SO said for home use, just get a keyboard without the keypad.
I was just wondering how many of you use the numpad?
ETA: I can't change the poll, but I should have added the option "Have one, use it occasionally"

I use mine all the time. I ended up getting an accessory number pad for my laptop at home. It’s a little awkward but much better than the row of number keys.

I don’t do much number crunching but always use the num-pad on my laptop and desktop and would miss it. I’ve adjusted with phones and tablets but given the option I would still get it on a keyboard.

I have one and I prefer the option. I miss it when I'm using my laptop.

I love the ten key pad. I was really good at it. At my previous job, I used it to enter numbers by the thousands. It was also my best skill in high school when I took "Office Machines." Yeah, the 80's were good. I do not have one now and the numbers across the top make me hunt and peck.

I use my 10 key pad all the time for work. I wouldn’t want to give it up.

katladyI think if you are accustomed to using it, you will miss it VERY MUCH. DH can continue to ignore it, but I think you should get a keyboard with the numbers as you are the one who will use the number pad and miss it if it is missing.

YES! Whenever I use DH's Chromebook I feel lost without it.
My first home computer (circa early 1990's) didn't have one. Since then all keyboards and laptops must have a 10-key for me.

My home laptop and work desktop both have it. I have a different laptop that I use for Quickbooks and other financial things for our church, but it doesnt' have a number keypad and I hate it! If I know I'm going to be doing a lot of work, I'll do it at home where I can hook up to a wireless keyboard (and a larger screen too). I'm getting better at using the numbers above the letters, but I have a hard time finding the period button without stopping and looking for it.

I have one in my office at work but not on the laptop I use when I work from home. My muscle memory automatically has me trying to key in numbers before I remember I have to use the top row.

When I had to get a new laptop for work last year, the laptops they were ordering were the smaller ones that do not have the keypad on the right. I had to get approval from my boss's boss to get the bigger (more expensive) one with the keypad. I LOVE having the keypad, it's so much quicker if you have to type a lot of numbers (which I do for work). My boss said to me the other day that she regrets not getting the same one that I did.
My personal MacBook doesn't have a keypad, and I miss it. Luckily I don't need to type numbers as much as I do for work.
So my answer is..... if I had the option of a keypad, I would get one, even for my personal use. But if it was a lot more expensive, I could live without it, but not for work.

I work at a bank, so having that 10 key is vital. I no longer have customer contact, but I find that I'm still typing amounts and GL numbers all day long. I would be lost without the 10-keypad. I hate typing on my phone or on my laptop because of the lack of 10-key.
Back in my teller days, we would have races to see who balances the fastest, or who batched 300 checks the fastest (on the encoding machine). I worked at a busy branch where we actually had 2 encoding machines, so we would sit side by side during this race. This was back in the 90s, when being a teller was still fun (or, maybe it wasn't that fun, but we made up these games to make it fun).

I had to choose other because some of my keyboards have it and some don’t. The mechanical keyboard for DH’s desktop computer has it and I use it all the time for office work and entering invoices. I don’t have it on my MacBook or on my HP/Windows laptops, but I also don’t tend to need one for what I do on those computers. I had it on my old desktop Mac’s slimline keyboard. I loved that keyboard but don’t really need it anymore.

Oh yes. As a life-long accounting person it's a requirement for any of my keyboards including my laptop.

I worked in an accounting office at a large hotel a bazillion years ago. I need a number pad!
Also, I use the number pad on my PC to type with diacritical marks in non-English languages. I don't like waiting while I hold the key down on my Macbook for accents. I'm faster with the number pad on my PC.

Yes. I have two monitors attached to my laptop with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I worked for 15 years in a bank check processing department and internal account reconciliation department…I use my number pad all the time.

At work I use it all the time for number crunching. I can do it without looking, which freaks out my colleagues. My laptop at home hasn't got one but I rarely do number crunching at home and I don't miss it.

I just got a new laptop and this was a must have for me. It’s seems that they are a smaller area now and set up a little different. So it’s taken some getting used to. Next time, I know I’ll want to pay more attention to that.

Any time I type numbers I use it. I miss it on the one that doesn't have it.
I don't really like typing on a laptop. So unless it is try on my lap or I don't have room, I have a wireless keyboard with the 10 key. If size is a problem, that could be one idea
