The northern lights are one of my bucket list items, I saw a weakish version whilst on a ferry leaving Vancouver Island years ago. So, am slightly miffed I missed this show last night, no hint of it when I let the dog out in the garden before bed, lots of lovely stars, no lights. Enjoy the very colourful photos in the link www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64782372

We had some strong Northern Lights in Norway too last night. I know Norway is known for the Northen Lights, but it's usually only seen in the northern part of our country. I live in the southern part, and have never seen it. I am a little miffed that I missed it last night. It looks spectacular!
I have to download the app which warns you it's coming, I think it's called Aurora.

There has been talk here for a few days and they are seen quite regularly in various areas of the county but we had too much cloud cover last night. When I’ve seen them from the house they’ve only been shifting pale green ‘curtains’ none of the dramatic colours seen in photographs, sadly. One day!

Your link doesn't work, but I saw the article on BBC news this morning about it. I noticed some pink in the sky last night but didn't realise that's what it was. I'll look again tonight.

I've just watched a video on the BBC website and it's certainly my neck of the woods but I wasn't aware it might be visible so I didn't look. I'll be looking again later too

A friend posted that she saw them last night in MN as well. I’ve never seen northern lights but have tried. I have friends that post pics often it seems but when we then try to go out we are unable to see them. My mom follows some Facebook group or app and she lets me know when people around us are reporting that they are seeing them.

I've posted the link again, seems to work now. Let's hope we get to see something tonight but we have a bit more cloud cover today. Fingers crossed.

Its only in photographs you can see the colours so vividly.

Its only in photographs you can see the colours so vividly. Yeah, that’s what we were told when we visited northern Norway in February a few years back. We were so lucky to see the yellowy-green curtains, and the guide we were with said it was very very rare to see the colours that cameras pick up in photographs. I would really love to hear from people who live where they see the Aurora Borealis, of their experiences with the colours. do you see the colours of pinks and purples etc?

Wow, that's so pretty! I'm sorry you missed it, and hope you get another chance to see the lights.

There’s nothing visible in south England this evening unfortunately even though it looks pretty clear skies to me. Dh said he looked last night but didn’t see anything even though I saw pictures taken pretty near to us on the news earlier.

My mom follows some Facebook group or app and she lets me know when people around us are reporting that they are seeing them. Lady Aurora dances to a fickle tune. A show could last a minute or 20. There could be back to back sightings within minutes or it might die off and that's the end for an hour or the whole night. Some of those photos are ridiculously overprocessed. I see there are already sightings across Alberta tonight. Should be a strong show. Funny how Calgary, AB and London, UK are on the same latitude and Calgary gets the lights all the time and London doesn't.

Missed them here in BC. Was fighting a migraine all day and went to bed early. Maybe tonight?? I’m from Alberta originally and saw northern lights many many many times but it’s always magical.

I’ve seen the Northern Lights in Iceland and you can most definitely see vivid pinks and greens with the naked eye. In the north east of Scotland where I am, I’ve seen vivid green and maybe a hint of pink but it’s with a camera that the true spectacle is normally visible. The photos don’t have to highly processed or taken with a fancy camera. Last time I saw them, they were barely visible with the naked eye, beyond a green horizontal strip, but someone we were with snapped a shot with his phone camera, and doing nothing with it, the lights were much more visible.

Its only in photographs you can see the colours so vividly. Not true! Colors other than green are more rare, but they can certainly be seen with the naked eye. I speak from experience

Nice photos, thanks for sharing! Apparently we were seeing the same solar storm from my neck of the woods, only here our view is known as the Aurora Australis.🇦🇺 🇳🇿 There’s quite a nice photo in the story I’ve linked, along with a video which is just under 3 minutes long and shows a nice range of colours (especially about the 1:10 mark). I’ve only seen the southern lights once, back in my early twenties, when I’d gotten up for a drink of water in the night and noticed the weird lights through the kitchen window. I didn’t know what it was at the time so I was a bit freaked out but I learned later it had been a pretty impressive display so I feel lucky to have seen it. I hope you get to cross the northern lights off your bucket list soon wellway . 🤞🤞
