My DH recently had an episode where he blacked out, feel and broke his humerus near his shoulder. After a number of tests, it was determined that it happened because his blood pressure was low. Since he returned from the hospital we've been taking his blood pressure both sitting and standing and it's been low at times (not that I'm really sure what constitutes low). Has anyone experienced this personally or had their partner experience it? Did they find out what caused it? They gave him a medication to raise his blood pressure and we're hoping it works because we don't want him falling and getting hurt again!
Thanks for any and all advice.

Yes, my DS suffered with it as a adult. He would come to on the floor in the bathroom at night.
After surgeries they wanted him to use a tilt table. No go he would pass out . He was started on meds, but became disabled before they had results. It was not from the low blood pressure though.

I've had episodes of it. They think mine is tied to my anemia. I eat so many leafy greens, red meat, even take iron tablets, and I still battle not to slip into being anemic.

Last spring I had an episode of dizziness, went to sit on the couch, and when I got up again and walked into the other room, I passed out. I didn't seek medical treatment at the time because I didn't hit my head. (and my medical providers read me the riot act because they might have been able to tell if it was a cardiac event) So I have no data from the moment to determine a cause. My PCP reduced one of my BP meds and I haven't had any more episodes.

I pass out relatively easily…it’s hereditary, my sisters both have the same issues, my niece has had it happen, etc. I’ve never been tested (except when I was pregnant and it happened, they had me hospitalized for 2 or 3 days, ran a ton of tests and found nothing) but my blood pressure is always on the low side.
Basically I’ve learned my triggers….blood (mine or other peoples, though bloody noses, small scrapes, etc don’t bother me), injuries in general (a player got hurt during a hs basketball game a few weeks ago, while they were waiting for the ambulance I started feeling off and left the gym, once I was in the cool hall/bathroom I was ok), first aid courses, etc. I try to avoid those types of situations or leave when they occur (the other school secretary and I have an agreement….she does blood and I do vomit, no nurse). I also have issues when I’m sick (vomiting), which unfortunately I can’t really avoid, when I have the stomach flu it’s almost guaranteed I’ll wake up on the bathroom floor at least once.
Hopefully your dh will start to recognize his triggers and symptoms so he can keep himself safe. I find staying cool and hydrated (Gatorade is good bc it has the electrolytes plus sugar) helps.

I have been dealing with this since my heart attack. Not fun. Blacked out brushing my teeth, up north, and fell backwards into the soaking tub. DH slept thru it. Had a hell of a time getting out, and had a sore hip for 6 months, with massive bruising. Bending over, then going to standing, seems to trigger me.
Its very scary, and DH now goes shopping with me as I don't want to have that happen getting stuff off of shelves.
My meds were adjusted the very next week and my bottom number is higher, but still is in the 60-70s.
Hope you get some answers.

My daughter does - she has POTS - postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. She’s recently diagnosed so we’re working with her Drs to figure out what works and doesn’t for her. She’s taking a steroid medication that causes her kidneys to hold onto salt and this water and takes alt pills in addition to drinking a gallon+ of water a day in an effort to increase her blood volume to help with better circulation and blood pressure. She also wears compression socks and we’re experimenting with upper leg/thigh and abdomen compression that she’s comfortable with. Fortunately she hasn’t hurt herself.

Husband was in the hospital this past fall with low blood pressure. If the two numbers of your bp are added together and then divided by two and the results are lower than 60, then your body will start shutting down. His results were very close to 60 and at times dipping below 60. We have been battling prostate cancer now for almost four years.(It spread to the bones before being discovered.) I've posted about it here before.
He had been in major pain and was needing lots of methadone and narcotics to battle the pain. This was caused by a infection of some sort. Once he got a few major antibiotics going and other treatments his blood pressure stabilized at a higher level. I was so frustrated cause when I called and said the pain killers were not working, the nurses on call just kept telling me to give him more of the same. Thankfully, my daughter who is a RN came over and checked him out and eventually we sent him to ER by ambulance. He was hospitalized for about a week for various things before he was allowed to come home.
I used to have low blood pressure and if it got to low, I would have dizziness and have to be careful when standing up.

My BP used to be naturally low, like 85/35. The first aiders used to use me to train people in how to take blood pressure back when they used cuffs. I had "speed wobbles" when I got up too quickly, but only passed out when I threw up. These days my BP is normal 110/70 and I still get speed wobbles and pass out when I throw up. I've learned to kneel on the floor by the toilet, and cross my arms and rest my head on them, and hold on. That way I don't wake up on the floor. My doctors have never been worried about it though. They're only bothered if it goes up. Once during my cancer treatment the hospital recorded 135/85-ish (I can't remember the exact numbers but it wasn't outrageous) and when the report got to the doctor, who I saw for something different, he commented that it needed monitoring. Yeah, I'm being monitored. That's why it's up.

Has your husband always had low bp? If so, did he take any meds that may have lowered it more? Some meds (pain relievers, certain migraine meds, etc) will lower bp.
I had low bp all my life (until recently, when it started going up) and had to be careful about meds that would inadvertently lower it. Doctors checked my heart for bradycardia, valve issues etc but no obvious cause.

DH suffered with an onset of low blood pressure which lead to falls etc.
he had lots of investigations by a cardiologist as it was affecting his heart and it turned out that a medication he had been taking for 20+ years was causing it. Had a change of medication and his pressure is back to normal.
