Came across this new listing today, of a newly remodeled home. Seems to be a pretty decent flip reno of a '70s home. Nothing groundbreaking, but no big complaints. But the staging seems so weird! Doesn't match the new style of the home and doesn't really match itself either. Feels like the stager opened up a storage unit and put everything in there in this house. I'm all for eclectic looks, not all matchy-matchy, but this doesn't feel *thoughtful* - just kind of slapped together. I feel like if you're going to stage a home, it should add to the vibe and attractiveness of the home, you shouldn't have to look around it KWIM? Or maybe I'm just in a mood and boring and the decor and the house make sense together. What do you think? |

I kind of like it. They used that blue to tie everything together, even on the trim on the outside of the house. I don't care for blue, but the house itself inside is nice. I like that huge bonus room, or whatever it is. The furniture selection is very eclectic, but I think it is nicely done.

The home itself is nice.
I really like the upstairs room (loft), that would be a great scrapbook area.
I don't care for the decor. I don't care for gold fixtures(door handles, faucets, etc..).
It's nice to see a homes, with upper cabinets in the kitchen.
So many home nowadays, seem to have the upper cabinets removed and replaced with open wall shelves. I don't like open shelves in the kitchen, especially for the dishes....all I think about is how much dust is on the dishes.

Agree the staging looks like a random mix of 1990s pottery barn (hello cottage style) - does not go with style of house at all - that’s my take at a quick glance at least

Just a bunch of stuff. And since the lines of the house are so clean, I don't feel like their choices are playing up the house's assets.  |

The staging was all over the place. It mixed traditional, eastern, african, and a little bit of farmhouse in there. I do like the reno though. I have that color for my kitchen cabinets as well.

After seeing some really bad stuff, this one didn't stand out to me. It is a little different and feel there are some pieces that don't go, but it wouldn't have caught my eye. Overall I like the house. The blue is a lot but I have to say I don't hate it. I would take that blue over my old oak stuff.. lol

I think the staging is distracting. My eye doesn't know whether to go to the tiffany style lamp, the Tuscany style wall decor, or the decorative mirror. Meanwhile, the busy, oversized rug is obscuring what looks to be a nice wood floor. The couch is blocking the big windows which overlook the beautiful backyard.

I think, for me, it's that the house looks more lived in than staged. I'm not sure how to explain. If you posted the link and just said look at this house, I would think that was the homeowners stuff. Their every day belongings, how the place normally looks. If it were staged I'd expect everything to be more neutral,more matchy matchy,generic furniture store display -ish.
But I don't know anything as I prefer seeing a house bare. Whether staged or the owners belongings, I personally find it distracting. I find myself looking much more at the stuff than the house.lol shrug

I don’t really look at furniture when looking at a home, but I agree, I don’t care for the choices made here. Maybe because I just bought my own house, but I focus more on what is permanent in the home and what am I going to have to replace. I totally agree with the dislike of all the gold fixtures. And the door handles are not all the same throughout the house, which bothers me. I also appreciate that they have the cabinet uppers in the kitchen. While the open and airy look of removing them is nice, it just isn’t practical for me personally. I actually spend a lot of time in a kitchen and want the convenience of having everything close at hand. I tend to look at light fixtures, door handles, whether there is a mashup of electrical outlet types, switch plates, and covers, etc. In my own home, by the time I am done, I will have changed everything surface except the windows, which they had already updated, bathtub, and shower fixtures. And I may actually change those down the road if I’m still here. I am painting all rooms, including ceilings, changing all fans and lights, doorknobs, light switches, and covers, and changing out all the smoke alarms to be the same. She had them in all rooms, but they were the old kind that required you to change the battery, and they were all different in appearance and size. I pulled the carpets to refinish all the original wood floors and am having new flooring in the 3 bathrooms and the kitchen. I also have to have those areas be the same. I can’t stand multiple types of flooring room to room. Although, I do like the penny tiles in that bathroom but you would have to love blue. And the wood floors appear to be real wood. I hope they seal it really well in that kitchen. I adore wood and am paying a fortune to refresh the wood in my house, but I don’t think real wood in the kitchen would work for me. How do you adequately clean the floors in the kitchen? Maybe because I have a dog, I need to almost sterilize the kitchen and bathroom floors. Or I am just a sloppy cook. I think they did a very nice job on the bones of the house and really like that most areas are all the same throughout the house. Just small changes would be needed, if you adore blue and gold, that is. I also like that upstairs bonus room as a craft room! I really think this house would do better with about 80% of the furnishings removed. |

I am not a fan of blue however, I didn't mind the kitchen. I really like the tile on the bathroom floor.
The pic that was posted above was the room I disliked the most. I didn't like ANY of the wall art.

I didn't like ANY of the wall art.I didn’t like it either! And that weird picture of the woman with the colored stripe across the eye area - they had two of them! The other one was in a different color but was basically the same picture. And one wall had a huge picture of pottery, too large for the wall. And in that same room on the opposite side was a tiny little picture much too small for the wall! They should have left all that in storage. It just didn’t enhance the home at all. |

The people who lived in the house had kids and weren't too old, so I thought it had to be staged. At the closing, the seller asked about the 5K cost and asked if that was for staging. The realtor said yes. The seller kind of got screwed on that part of the sale. It was pretty poor staging. It sold fast though, so I guess it couldn't have been that bad. It didn't look anything like the homes staged for 5K on HGTV shows!

Which by the way is about to be half this board since nearly every day someone posts that they "just don't care about what other people think" anymore and then proudly let us know that they have given up. Listen I may be vain but no one is ever going to accuse me of smelling like an old person! |

Slightly medicinal, but I can't identify exactly what. I really don't never notice it on anyone under about 80, and it certainly isn't everyone. It's not a particularly bad smell, but it is distinctive. |

We are moving and I've been looking at many homes. Sometimes, the several weird/odd/different effects work, because you'll remember the house. In this case, it may be, the blue house with the weird painting of the lady with covered eyes... lol.

We'd stay there for a week (my mom was with me) and I just have a heightened memory of that smell in both of their houses. It wasn't the funk of unwashed people as much as the no one has aired out the place in a very long time. Stagnant air. Perfume lingering is also a memory. Faint perfume mixed with no air flow. My husband said it the minute we walked in, and I had to agree. The realtor just kind of laughed and went past that comment quickly. When we moved in, the smell was gone, so I am guessing the smell was in the fibers of the furniture/rugs. Now we have filled it with the smell of younger old people and their dogs. |

I agree with everyone's negative comments here. Yikes, it's not so much the larger pieces, like the couch, it's the smaller things, and the accessories, that are a mishmash of unmatching, conflicting styles. Just horrible. And the awful motel art on the walls. If they paid for that staging they need to get their money back.

The previous people in my house were in their 90s. I didn’t notice any old person smell when I viewed the house twice before putting in my offer. My realtor met me here when I officially got the keys and when we walked in, we looked at each other and said, “It smells in here!” And I assume it was because the house had been shut up with no one living in it for a couple of weeks. I aired it out immediately.
But every time I went into the main bathroom, I could smell something. Unfortunately, my fibromyalgia has given me a heightened sense of smell. It was driving me nuts. It smelled old ladyish. I finally realized it was coming from inside the drawers. I hadn’t put anything of my own in them yet, fortunately. I assume some of her product spilled in there and the wood absorbed it.
I took the drawers out and scrubbed them, but it didn’t get rid of the smell. I sprinkled baking soda and left it for a week. Nope. I tried a few different things, but ended up going out and buying an oil-based paint and painting the inside of all the drawers. That fixed it!
Oh, and removing the carpeting helped a great deal too. I will never again have carpet in any house I live in. It never feels clean to me. Now with the wood floors, I will know that it is spotless and fresh. I still have to replace all of her blinds, but that is not going to happen until I get my furniture in here and see what will look the best.
I think any fiber will hold onto the smells of the previous owners, no matter what their age. My parents cooked with onions just about every single day. Their house always had a lingering smell of fried onions. It actually smelled good!

I loooooove the kitchen! I quite like the rest of the house, too. Yes the staging is just all kinds of weird. But the price! Uhhh no thanks.
