Are any of our peas or their family/friends in the mountain communities and Ealing with the huge mess from the blizzard?
I have friend who walked 3 hours in the snow to get food.
A home exploded close by due to gas line leaks and issues from the weight of the snow.
Then the grocery store's roof caved in.
A few friends have relatives staying with them as they can't get back up to their homes. Hard closures all over - 18, 118, 330, etc.

Our mountains got between 7 and 9 feet of snow in a few days time. That is typically the total for the season. Here is one article about it if you were not aware. abc7.com/amp/san-bernardino-mountains-snow-national-guard-county/12904034/My area below the mountains got a good amount of snow as well. I have never seen the snow fall that fast and with as much on the ground in all my years here. Crazy storm!

I think California keeps desperately trying to shrug off humans and they just won't take the hint. Fires, droughts, floods, earthquakes, blizzards, mudslides...it should all be turned into a national park before they run out of water.
Such a lovely place from end to end but I think the earth there isn't happy.

California is making some attempts at slowing that down. Not every state can say the same. Hell, some states flat out deny that climate change exists.

CA is a huge state.. and like the 5th largest economy in the world if it was a country. we are just having a very very snowy winter.. and yes climate change is a total factor.

I've been seeing this on my FYP on TikTok. MG the amount of snow piled up 10 feet high, staggering!
The people who are regularly filming are younger, stronger, fitter than most I imagine because they have the strength to get out there and shovel constantly throughout the day.
I saw one of a mother with a sick child (no age given) and she went down out of the mountains to get his much needed medicine. When she started her way back home she was blocked from accessing the roads even though they are plowed and open the CHP/Caltrans everyone is saying they are only allowing official vehicles on them and won't allow any residents. She's been begging for help to get her son her meds as of yesterday.
There was another video I saw of a man in his late 20's/early 30s who was very fit and he showed all the abandoned cars at the foot of the mountain of people who in frustration just decided to hike the entire way up the mountain. He filmed his scary ascent, there is barely any shoulder off the sides of the roads and he's hot and sweaty and out of breath. FINALLY when it's getting scarily dark someone took pity on the guy and gave him a ride.
Honestly as bad as the situation is there seems to be a lot of stupidity going on too. Where's the common sense? I mean, why not allow an convoy of the residents to get to their homes? So crazy.

the convoy idea would mean a stack of cars stuck half way up.. caltrans does a good job and if they say it is not safe yet, it isn't.. and more stuck cars mean it is harder to clear the roads.. they are dealing with way more than 10 ft of snow...these are super steep roads .. not a wide freeway with shoulders.. etc. then the side roads to the houses aren't cleared, then the driveways aren't cleared. it is not surprising that they say it will be another week.. and then there is limited gas, groceries, and all the fire and police services are limited.

There is also concern of avalanches. One occurred near Palm Springs in those mountain ranges.
Also the same for another area.
Also the risk of natural gas and fire needing to get there quickly.
There are many reasons why they aren't letting people up or down.
A local high school is set up for those who can't get up. And I know someone helping run free aid up by Goodwins. She does a lot of community outreach here and got in contact with people uphill.

I don't know all the details but I thought I heard on the news that the County only plows the main roads and that does not include all the residential streets. Which means residents trapped on their streets. The County actually told the residents to hire a plow company if they want out!
On one hand, if you know this while living there, then that's on the residents. However, you'd think because this is a once is 40 year storm and for safety, the County would plow everything now that the main roads are clear.
I just can't believe the ski resorts are opening and residents are still trapped.

I just can't believe the ski resorts are opening and residents are still trapped. Fire units, county, and military are hand shoveling people out. They put out a request for snow blowers. The roads in a lot of areas are super small and the regular plows can't get there.
