Saturday there was an accident in town that claimed the life of a Sheetz gas truck driver, displaced a family from their home and damaged other homes. Several witnesses saw a car cut him off and didn't have time to react. My DDs and I were driving home from DC and could see the smoke from miles away. Please folks, if you're in a hurry, do not forget that the weight of a truck cannot stop on a dime. Right of weight on the road. I hope he didn't suffer long. My DS who works for a trucking traffic control company in Seattle said news like this ripples through them all. Here's a article from USA today on it: Gas truck explosion
There was another small gas fire that day at another Sheetz that was customer error filling their tank and quickly contained, but it brought out the tin foil hat club on Next Door and social media. sigh To top it off, there was a fatal shooting where police attempted to serve a warrant, the person apparently approached the officers with a knife and 2 other officers shot him. JUST this last week, our local officers have started wearing body cameras, so this will be investigated. This too has brought out the chaos in the community with one side cheering on his death and the other side asking why shoot someone with a knife. I hope the full story comes to light and everyone can simmer down. Fatal shootingAnyway, we're all shell shocked, mourning, can't drive through town because the rubbernecking of the accident scene continues to cause standstill traffic. There is a meal train for the family of the truck driver that people can donate to, so I think we'll donate funds rather than a meal. I feel like maybe a meal from strangers would feel odd.

Like what has happened in your town isn't horrific enough, the asshats have to make it exponentially worse.
Wish wishing that nothing further befalls your community.

I can't read the link (pay wall), my dad was a gasoline truck driver for many years. This is so sad and tragic and sounds like it could have been avoided. I don't think people realize that 18-wheeler trucks like that have lots of gear changes (13-15 gears) and they can't just put on their breaks and stop quickly like a car. So sad
That is awful about the warrant shooting too. I wish those being served a warrant would just go peacefully. My Godson is a police officer and someone he knew got shot because the officer was there to arrest him. Luckily, he wasn't killed but he is on a long road to recovery.

The news is full of horrible things like that happening every day. But when it happens so close to home as it is for you right now, it becomes personal somehow. Sending a hug as you and your neighbors navigate some sad waters.
