No. Everything will probably be fine, but I wouldn’t risk it.

I would absolutely not be going to Mexico. Sure you would probably be fine, but why take the risk?

Since you already have the trip planned and probably paid for, I would go but not take any additional risks once there. However, there have been travel warnings there for years. I would rather go somewhere else if possible.

Your plans seem to be in line with the safety recommendations I’ve often read.
I have neighbors who spend the winter there every year, and are due back here right before Easter, I believe.
But would I, personally, go to Mexico right now? Nope.

My bestie and her husband got home 2 days ago from Mexico. They were in Laredo (sp) and Cabo. They didn't have any problems.

Thanks all for the input - plans have been booked and paid for since December so no changing them at this point.
If asked today to plan the trip..........I may have declined and offered other alternatives.
Still looking forward to the getaway with all of the girls and away from all of this SNOW!

The resort area of Cancun has ramped out security to ensure travelers feel safe. If you're taking hotel transportation and staying on resort, I really wouldn't have much concern. Do be aware the taxis and uber drivers in that area are having issues, so if someone suggests taking an uber somewhere, take a hard pass on that. Having said that, we aren't going to Mexico this year (we went to Cabo last year with no issues), but have chosen to spend our travel dollars elsewhere this year.

Personally for me I've never had any desire to go to Mexico. Right now with all of the warnings-no way would I risk it. And I'm not a woman who shies away from travel-even solo international travel. I live for international travel.
Did you buy travel insurance for this trip? If you did I'd see if there was a way to use that and change destinations. There are a lot of wonderful, safe Caribbean islands to choose from.
If you didn't I still wouldn't go-it's not worth the risk to your life.
PSA-It's always a good idea to buy travel insurance. Most have restrictions that you have to buy it within X number of days after paying for your flight and hotels.

All these comments that the resorts have upped their security so travelers feel safe, that in itself would make me not want to go. I agree with what others have said about there being lots of other vacation destinations that offer the same amenities that I would go to first.

I love Cancun and part of what I love is there is so much to do and see off the resorts. I would hate to go and feel like I had to stay in my hotel. HOWEVER< in your case it's a girls trip and you are there to enjoy the amaaazing food, the great drinks and the beautiful beach/resort. Have a great time, vaya con Dios and update us on your fabulous time when you return, you'll be fine.

Absolutely. So long as you stay clear of the border towns this wouldn't even be a question for me.
Utilize the resort transportation as planned, stay on resort, don't flash wads of money/ expensive jewelry, stay with your group, relax and have fun.
We don't have a Mexico trip until September. I'm looking forward to it. Enjoy yourself.

We’ve been to Mexico several times and the beaches are beautiful. I think I would pick another destination if I were going now, but I think it will be a wonderful trip for you.

When a majority of my family won’t go, that decides it for me. And these are the family members that still have tons of family in Mexico and are immigrants themselves. My husband already refuses to go into Mexico based on stories and incidents that have happened to his coworkers. I would love to go visit, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

Pretty sure I would go. We've been to Xcaret several times and it was a very busy place. We've traveled during times like this before and felt very safe. We've been to numerous resorts where the guards meet you at the gate (a good 1/2 mile or farther from the resort) with machine guns. The first time it was a little unsettling, but having seen it now maybe 6+ times, I guess it doesn't bother me anymore.
That being said, check with your travel mates and see what they think. Things can change from day-to-day.

I wouldn’t. I am a very cautious person and haven’t paid much attention lately but over the past few years it just seems to be getting worse . No matter what you decide I hope you have a safe trip and a lot of fun.

We’ve been there a few times to a few different areas and we just weren’t impressed enough to want to go back. We went once to a resort in Cancun with friends for a week and it wasn’t awesome. Went a couple more times when we were on cruises that had port stops and we felt the same way even though there weren’t the travel advisories there are now, so no. I’d find somewhere else to go.

We just got back from Mexico the end of Feb. We went with 4 other couples, 3 of which had never been to Cancun. Two of us have been numerous times over the last 7-8 years. None of us felt unsafe and our newbies can’t wait to go back, they loved it. Mexico is beautiful and have even more beautiful people, we love going down there. OP I hope you have a great time, when we were there we had a cold snap at home and it was 83 degrees in Cancun, it was so nice to not be home in 10 degree weather!

My son is in Mexico right now. He flew into Cancun last Saturday, he's been staying in Felipe Carrillo Puerto filming a documentary (for school; he's a journalism major), and he'll be in Tulum this weekend. I'm a little nervous but he is doing fine and having a great time. If I was going to a resort, I would go.

Yes. Just got back from cancun yesterday. It was awesome and we were very safe at our resort. It was off the hotel zone so very few vendors. Private car service to and from the airport

I am going to visit my son who lives in Mexico sometime this spring or summer. I did pause a bit when I heard about the kidnapping that recently happened there, but shit happens everywhere. On Friday night, the grocery store I am at at least 3 times a week, less than 2 miles from my house, had a robbery/shooting in the parking lot. It freaked me the heck out--a woman and her husband had just shopped, she was sitting in the car, he was putting groceries in the car, and a man jumped in the car and after a scuffle with her, shot her in the face. It sucks, and like I said, I go to that same store several times a week and have never given a thought to getting robbed in the parking lot. I know the murders of the medical tourism is in the news right now and I also know some places in Mexico can be dangerous. I would avoid them. Some places in the US can be dangerous too. I would not drive through South Central Los Angeles and feel perfectly safe. Every day we hear about people being caught up in violence/shootings here in the states. I wonder how many Mexican citizens have lost their lives here. I would be very careful and aware no matter where I traveled but fear would not stop me from going.

I guess I am the odd one out. We were n the Yucatán a few months ago, rented a car and drove to several ruins and cenotes. Stayed in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Merida and between Akumal and Tulsa, all for a few nights. Never felt unsafe. But, we’re a family traveling together. I guess I would perhaps feel different if for example my college age nieces were going there alone. I don’t know. It’s a shame, it is such a nice destination.

Nope. And I am not an “I’m scared” kind of person. I am always a “take the trip anyway” kind of person. But going to Mexico right now just seems flat out stupid. That's how I feel too.

No, I would not go right now. I lived in Southern California until just a couple of months ago. Because we were so close, we went to Mexico all the time. Then one one trip, we were camping in a beachfront campground. I had gone to sleep but several of our group were awake and sitting around the campfire. Suddenly they were surrounded by the Federal police with guns aimed at them.
They all provided identification and proof that we paid for the campground. We were there legally, but the police demanded money or they said they would take us all to jail. It was a shakedown.
My little sister was among the group around the fire and we were asleep in the van. My sister had no money and offered to wake me up to get some. The police would not let her near our van. I guess not knowing who was inside the van, they decided to leave us alone. They collected the money and some jewelry from our friends and left. And again, this was the Mexican police, in uniform, that did this. I know there is a lot of corruption, but I thought we were safe where we were. I haven’t spent the night in Mexico since that episode. And we used to go down there several times a year starting when I was 16 and my ex and I used to go surfing down there. Then when we were older, we started going for the shopping and restaurants. I did miss going, but just couldn’t feel good about going again.
I know things happen everywhere, but for me, when you cannot be safe from the authorities or the criminals, I am better off just not going there.
