This is a bucket list item for me, but we've still got a way to go. We're probably in the mid-thirties.
As a family we've done two big loop road trips that knocked out a lot of states. One from Texas down to the Florida keys and back up through Georgia that took care of the southeast. Another from Texas to NYC up to Montreal and Toronto and back down through Ohio that knocked out much of the northeast and midwest.
Last spring DH and I did a big loop from Texas to Utah and down through Arizona and hit the Grand Circle of national parks. That was amazing and the best trip we've ever done (maybe because we didn't have the kids-ha!)
Otherwise, we've hit states here and there on various shorter trips and work conferences. Our next big road trip will probably be Yellowstone to knock out all of those big northwest states we're missing.

I was able to fulfill this bucket list wish six years ago when I finally made it to West Virginia. DH traveled extensively for his job before retiring and DD & I would occasionally accompany him. When I reached 35 states, it felt like it was doable and I added it to my bucket list. I did have a personal rule that airports did not count and I had to actually do something in that state instead of just driving across the border.
Once I accomplished all 50, I decided I needed a new bucket list goal. Since we thoroughly enjoy our US National Park sites, we decided we would like to visit a NP service site in each of the 50 states. Now I'm only four states (FL, DE, MD, NJ) away from that. My new goal will be to visit all of the 63 National Parks. Even though we only have 19 to go it doesn't seem realistic since there are some pretty remote parks in Alaska as well as the ones in American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands.
I hope all of you who want to see all 50 states are able to accomplish it!

I made a goal to visit all 50 states by the age of 50 and accomplished it at 48. Then COVID hit, and we've barely traveled since. I'm so ready to get back out on the road. It was mostly DH and I traveling together, and we visited multiple states each trip. We love National Parks so those would take center stage and then we'd find other interesting things along the way. We are shooting for visiting all 63 National Parks...we're at 53 so we still have some more to visit. Good luck and enjoy!

My oldest friend and her husband fly over every year, hire a car and travel for about 3 weeks in their quest to visit every state. They would have done it if lockdown had not prevented travel. I think they just have Hawaii and Alaska to visit now. I’m a lightweight at about 5.

This is on my bucket list as well. I am Canadian so going to all of the provinces is something I want to do.
My favourite places in america I have been so far is all along the blue ridge highway, and Savannah.
These are the states I have been to.
New York Pennsylvania Michigan Ohio Maine Vermont New Hamshire West Virginia Kentucky Tennessee Virginia North Carolina South Carolina Georgia Florida
This year hoping to do an east coast trip checking off Massachusetts / Connecticut / Rhode Island
Next year hoping to check off Colorado and Utah. and possibly a separate girls trip to either Louisiana or California

I’ve been to all 50. My Dad loved to travel, then I married a man in the military. I think the last state I needed was Florida. Somehow never made it there until my early 30’s.

Can you recommend any great places/resorts/lodges to visit that don't involve a cruise ship? Well, the state is huge- do you know what area you’ll be traveling to? Do you want bougie places or rustic or quirky/unique? In towns or remote? I definitely have some favorite spots! One place I love is called Bear Creek Winery and Lodging. It’s in Homer. It has a beautiful view, unique rooms (I love the Cowboy Room), wine tasting, one of a kind hot tub, even a turtle in the pond (lol I’m easily impressed because I love turtles and we don’t have them here). You’ll get salmon dip appetizers and a free bottle of wine in your room. The gift store is adorable too.
