I've driven the same car for 16 years, a 2007 Toyota Yaris. It had no frills, but it was unfailingly dependable and so cheap to drive and maintain. I've been toying around with the idea of buying an SUV for the last couple of years but I could never bring myself to pull the trigger. Well today I impulse bought a 2021 Nissan Rogue. It has every bell and whistle I've always wanted but never thought I could afford. Leather seats, remote start, backup camera, heated seats & steering wheel and even more. It only has 19,000 miles on it and I got a fantastic deal. The dealer even gave me way more than I expected for my Yaris as a trade-in. I'm still kind of uncomfortable with the fact that I have a car payment again but some things just can't be helped. I've also never owned a Nissan or a used car. Hopefully I won't live to regret this decision. Anyone else have a Nissan? Have I made a terrible mistake? Here's my out with the old, in with the new picture. The Yaris will be here until next weekend when I drive it to the dealership to complete the trade. It also has a full tank of gas I'm determined to either use up or figure out how to siphon out. That stuff is too expensive to give away.

I had a 2010 Nissan versa that I just sold. I got a 22 Nissan kicks last year. It was nice not having a payment for years but its nicer having a new vehicle! Previously, I leased Toyotas- an Echo and a couple of Yaris (yarises? Lol)

I will tell you that we bought my daughter a brand new Nissan Rogue in 2013. She wanted to drive that thing "until she drove it into the ground." It had 49,000 miles on it in January 2023. She didn't have a long commute and doesn't like to drive. At the end of January as she was driving to work, a man crossed the center line (all going 45 mph), and hit her head on. That car saved her life! It was totaled but she had minor injuries considering. He also totaled the 2023 Nissan Rogue behind her. They (mother driving her child to school) also had minor injuries considering. All went to the hospital but all were okay. It was a miracle but also that car. Hope you have fun, and I thought you might like to hear a bit about its safety. Congrats!

I have never owned a Nissan but just wanted to say congratulations on your new car. I hope you enjoy every bell and whistle that you got.
I have always owned pretty basic cars, as far as options go, but I have to say I will always get heated seats now. My last two have had them and I will never not have them, if at all possible. Most of the other things don’t really matter…but give me my heated seats. 😆

Congratulations! I have never owned a Nissan but I will say that having a heated steering wheel is THE BOMB! I use my heated steering wheel even more than my heated leather seats

Considering that the dealership will have the gas tank filled for you when you pick up your new car, call it an even trade I have bought a lot of vehicles, and one has had a full tank of gas. Most had fumes only. I had to barter and bitch to get that one filled up too!

I have a 2020 nissan rogue... i love mine!!!
I live in the country and it is amazing on gas!!! I have driven it on the highway long distance and in big cities...
I would get all over again if i was buying today... its not super huge but i can carry my grandkids in it...
I wish i had heated seats n steering wheel... lol but the backup camera screen is awesome!!!
To put it in neutral.. dont push the button on the side but when it is in drive just push the knob up n hold it til the light moves up to n... i didnt know and learned real fast in a drive thru car wash when i was already on the track... lmao

My oldest son and his wife bought a Nissan Rogue last year for her “baby car.” They traveled in it up here this weekend with a seven month old and all her accoutrements with room to spare. They love theirs!

My current SUV has most of the nice bells and whistles, and the one I find I am enjoying the most is the heated seats. I can feel the heat starting by the time I get to the end of my driveway and this winter I am so thankful for them.

I had a 1986 Nissan Sentra back in the day. Loved that car and never had any issues with it. I’ve had other cars since but in 2017 bought a brand new Rouge. I LOVE it. I’ve never felt so comfortable in a car. There are no huge blind spots, it gets good gas mileage and has been relatively low maintenance.

My daughter had a Nissan Rouge. She sold it and regrets that decision. I have a friend looking at new vehicles and she is leaning towards a Rogue.

You all have set my mind at ease. I'm so glad that no one seems to have a Rogue horror story! Here in California it would be more useful to have a cooled steering wheel and cooled seats but car manufacturers don't seem to get on board with that idea. I will tell you that we bought my daughter a brand new Nissan Rogue in 2013. She wanted to drive that thing "until she drove it into the ground." It had 49,000 miles on it in January 2023. Hope you have fun, and I thought you might like to hear a bit about its safety. Congrats! Thank you for sharing that story. Safety is my #1 reason for wanting a new vehicle. It's hard being a small car on these country roads. Everyone is bigger than me and I feel like I can't see anything around the large vehicles. Plus I've had an alarming number of near misses on head on collisions in the last couple of years. All with bigger vehicles that cross the center line. If I hadn't been paying attention and got hit my little car would have been obliterated. I feel like my chances of walking away from a crash are much higher in the Rogue.

We are long time Nissan owners. Dh drives his cars into the ground. We've have several Pathfinders over the decades and then more recently an Infinity. That thing was over 250 miles when he gave it away to a friend who's car broke down and was too expensive to fix. She's had it for almost a year now and loves it.

Considering that the dealership will have the gas tank filled for you when you pick up your new car, call it an even trade. Yes it came with a full tank of gas. But for the amount of money I paid they don't get my gas too. They didn't even bother to clean the interior of the Rogue, just ran it through a car wash. That irritates me and I'm petty so I'll be keeping my gas.

We bought the kids a used 2007 Rogue about 10 years ago to share while they were going to high school here in KY, etc. Flash forward to 2017 and DD took the car with her to school at UMass. Flash forward to 2021 and the car went with her to downtown Boston (complete with crazy driving and potholes galore) for her first job. Flash forward to 2023 and the little Rogue that could is still chugging along.
I ended up buying a 2020 Nissan Murano for myself a few years ago and so far so good!

In Oct. 2020, a driver backed into my Nissan Altima while my son was driving it. I then bought a 2018 Rogue. I don't drive much (work at home + the pandemic when there was very little driving) and have only put 20k miles on it. I've been very happy with it. I can't imagine only driving 49,000 miles in 10 years like Patter's daughter. I don't know if it's just me, but I do feel like it has some blind spots. Also. They should definitely fill the tank and the car should be spotless. That's unacceptable, IMO. My son just bought a used car after his was totaled, and the dealership did that for him. Lisa

I agree with you, and I see that your son bought used, but it's been hard to buy a new car for a while now, mainly due to the chip shortage (which seems to be easing now). I think it got some dealerships' employees thinking that they could slack off on the details that were always expected (and should be, IMO!) when making such a costly purchase. Article on the car shortage below. www.cars.com/articles/is-the-inventory-shortage-coming-to-an-end-460943/Wishing your son many safe, happy miles in the new ride.

Thanks everyone!
Day 2 was fun. The salesperson really didn't do a good job of showing off the car's features. I had no idea there were so many cool little things about it that I found out just by playing with the buttons today. It also took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out the headlights which I'm still not sure I totally understand. I'm actually excited to drive to work on Monday though!

Lisa Yes, when my daughter bought her "new to her car" to replace the totaled Nissan Rogue, they cleaned it so well it truly looks new. Even smells new (there must a new car air freshener). There were even a couple of paint scrapes that they buffed out for her, and she got a full tank of gas. The rain sensor also was not working so they replaced that too for her for free. The salesperson also spent a good 45 minutes going over the bells and whistles with her. And for $800 she got a "bumper to bumper warranty" until 2029! Sad her savings for her house went to this car though because of a man not paying attention and crossing the center line. There definitely is more of that now. So sad. Glad you are getting used to the bells and whistles, chaosisapony. Have fun driving to work in the morning!
