We ordered from our favorite little local cafe and the food was late. Then a guy showed up and said he was sorry but our delivery driver was in a car accident. She hit a moose. We know all the drivers so we were quite concerned but took our food and then.. when we brought the bag into the light we saw it had hair all over it. We opened the meals and there was human hair, broken glass and MOOSE hair all over in there! We could tell it was a serious accident. I called the restaurant and they replaced the meals but the girl who answered was trying not to cry. Then the same teenager who brought our food brought the second meals and he was in shock and started to cry. Our delivery driver is still in hospital and lost her ear and part of her face he said. I can’t believe this happened. Moose are a serious road hazard and especially at night they run out and you can’t stop in time. People drive slow at night for this reason. Just found out the accident was right by our house. The food was brought by accident because of all the panic at the scene. [
We will take a card and some flowers and see how she’s doing on Monday. Just so awful. 🥺🥺🥺😳

I am so sorry for the person in the accident. I hope they have a speedy recovery. We have to be very careful with moose and deer in our state also.
Moose are worse, not only because of their size, but because at night you don’t get the light reflection with their eyes like you do with deer. So often you don’t see them (if there was even a chance to) until it is too late. And for as large and gangly as they are, they always seem to appear out of nowhere. It is something I try to be very aware about when driving at night ( and during rutting season ) in certain areas but sometimes there is nothing you can do. And I am sure it must be much worse in your neck of the woods.

Oh that's awful. The long legs and top heavy moose means they fly up onto your windshield. Deer and elk are a little less frightening.

You are so sweet to bring a card and flowers. I'm sure any gesture made by their customers will be appreciated. Scary!

Oh how awful!
Moose are no joke. We don’t get them around here (Southern Ontario) but I worked at an auto collision shop and dealt with a lot of deer hits. Moose are just that much taller and bigger, so when you hit them I’d leg they fall into the car - so scary!
I hope her recovery goes ok.

How terrible!
As someone who had a MAJOR accident when a deer ran in front of me, I know how something like that can be and a deer is nowhere near the size of a moose so I can image. Oh, that poor driver, how awful.

How horrible! I hope for she recovers well.
DH had a family friend that was killed when she hit a horse that had gotten out. It went through the windshield and crushed her. He son was in the passenger seat next to her and didn't have a scratch on him.

We don't have moose in our area, but I have heard a moose collision compared to one with a horse. They stand so tall that it impacts the passenger compartment more than a deer or something lower.
I had a friend that ran into a horse on a highway. 4 people in the car. 2 front/2back. They all layed down reflexively and somehow managed to do so without hittin/leaning up against each other. They were flat down, and the entire top of the car was taken off. They had not a scratch on them. It was simply a miracle.
