What older songs do you still know all the words to? Don't hear it for a very long time, but when it comes on...... you still know all the words.
Today while driving, John Denver "Country Roads" came on and I still knew every single word. I hadn't heard that songs for years, but sang right along with it. It's the same with many of the 70's songs that come on.

That’s the most random misplaced comma I’ve seen today.

I feel like I still know the words to most songs I’ve sung along to when I was younger. The other day a song my dad used to sing when I was a child came on and I joined right in like no time had passed at all.

I went to a hall party last month to celebrate a friend's birthday. There was a DJ and dancing, all songs from our high school and college age years. We danced and sang along to all of them all night. All of the lyrics came back to me. Saturday Night - The Bay City Rollers Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Soft Cell - Tainted Love Bryan Adams - Summer of '69 Madonna - Like a Virgin Kenny Loggins - Footloose Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer And so many more. It was a great party, I had no voice the next morning.

I pretty much know all the words to every Garth Brooks hit song ... same for ABBA ... I also know the words to 99% of the hit music that came out in the 80's because that was when I was in high school and I was obsessed with music.

Country Roads is one I know - it is one of the crowd favourites at Oktoberfest in Munich every year, and everyone sings along. Imagine - thousands of drunk Germans singing along to John Denver; it's something to behold! I also know pretty much everything by ABBA, not just their well known stuff like Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen, but tracks from their later albums and their reunion album from 2021.

I know the words to lots and lots of old songs but what I've discovered in recent years is that they might not necessarily be the right words.
Cue Peter Kay's comedy routine "misheard lyrics"
A video I like is the crowd at a Green Day concert, waiting for the band to come on stage, sang Bohemian Rhapsody, word for word.

Loads, I'm particularly proud of American Pie! My Dad had it on 7 inch and had to turn it over to hear the full song.

With all the music streaming, don't you listen to your old favorites on the regular? I have Spotify and I have all sorts of playlists of my favorite songs. I listen to music...a lot, as it is a form of therapy for me. So, I'm never surprised when something comes on. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I will pull up a random playlist and then listen to songs I don't know, but if I enjoy them, they go right on one of my playlists and then it becomes "my song" and I hear it all the time.
I also have a pretty big CD collection and I listen in my office to all my old favorites on the boom box regularly too. So, constant exposure to old favorites.
I guess I would say, I never had the chance to forget as music is a constant in my life.

That’s the most random misplaced comma I’ve seen today. This is the most random response, that really has no value, that I’ve seen in awhile. How about them commas.😆😆 Back to the real reason for responding. All of them. I still know the words to songs from when I was a child to now. If I could use the part of my brain that stores song lyrics for the good of humanity I could solve all of the world’s problems. 😉😄

“Country Roads”—I’ve been singing it since it came out, and since it one of our school songs, I still sing it today.
“American Pie”—I get all the words when it’s a sing along, and I can almost do the whole song when I’m just singing it without the original playing.
I pretty much know all the words to the songs on these “greatest hits” albums because they were usually in my CD player when I was driving back and forth from Pittsburgh to Columbus when DH and I were dating: ABBA Jim Croce Billy Joel Neil Diamond The Statler Brothers
I can still belt out “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” and “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim,” much to my DDs’ embarrassment LOL.

I remember the words to songs that I can't even remember until I hear them on the radio and then just start singing along lol. One that comes to mind right now is "Billy Don't Be a Hero" from the 70's.

My CDs are mostly Christmas music and I haven’t pulled any of them out to actually listen to in a decade. I mostly listen to music on the radio in my own car which is only when I’m running errands, so maybe only a couple times a week at most and not for long periods of time. Having said all that, I’m always kind of surprised when I actually remember all the words to an older song that pops up and it happens pretty frequently. Honestly, I really prefer silence when I’m at home.

Most of the songs I grew up listening to (my folks are 61 and 71), absolutely.
Anything more recent? Absolutely not.

Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks, that song has been in my head since 1976 and I can recite the whole song without the music. It will pop up at weird moments and when it comes on the radio you can be sure I am belting out the whole song at the top of my lungs
There are many others, but this is the one that sticks out
