Wow this storm is a doozy - right now Im in Sausalito in Marin - power was out most of afternoon and it is incredibly windy and rainy.
My middle kid is in Santa Cruz and they are also out of power and the 17 is shut down.
How are you all doing?

North/East Bay. Lots of rain and wind, but we do have power (almost never lose it here, maybe because our power lines are underground?).
We are waiting until tomorrow to go over the bridge to Walnut Creek to see my mom, because it’s supposed to be dry tomorrow. Hard to believe with what it’s like out there right now.
ETA I don’t envy you your drive home!

I was supposed to go to Santa Cruz and Seaside tomorrow, but it got canceled because they said the weather was too bad and I think the highway between the two is flooded.

this is the day the movers came and packed up my son's place. so this morning I drove around in rush hour san francisco taking his dog to pet camp. not bad this afternoon, about 1:30 pm, drove cross town to take a load to the dump (down by the old candlestick park. by airport). we went down the freeway from downtown, and it was so scary.. wind, and water.. so I got off the freeway and did surface streets. from my house in sw to north beach on the ne side of town, it was severe wind and pounding rain, trees down all over the place.. a tree totally across lombard street.. that was fun. we almost ran into a stupid tourist family crossing a major street when the light was green for cars.. we honked and they just kept walking.. idiots.. we drove back home cross town.. and there were at least 20 massive trees down.. all over.. even in the parking lot of a police station, by golden gate park.. even though the rain has stopped, and there is a little sun over the ocean, dh doesn't want me to even take the dog out to walk.. so he has to deal with the backyard.
I think it is worse south towards santa cruz, monterey and big sur..
my son is hoping to drive over tahoe on thursday.. and then we get another storm on monday.

I’m in Marin County and it’s been unbelievable today. The wind has calmed down a little thankfully but it’s still blowing and raining here.

it’s supposed to be dry tomorrow. I hope so ~ DH is playing Yoche Dehe and his tee time is 11:30. I've told him the chance of rain is diminishing after 8AM. my son is hoping to drive over tahoe on thursday. If they are going highway 50, they can stop at my house for a potty break! I'm thinking they will be going I-80 though. Are you originally from SoCal?

I live in SoCal, but not home right now. We are hearing it's pretty crazy there too.

North Bay here! No power right now. Had some work done on a fence last week - thank goodness, or I think it would have come crashing down!
Stay safe, everyone

I woke up around 5 am and it was already raining. It hasn't stopped once today and it's been so cold. The winds got really bad in the midafternoon. Neighbors have been sharing videos and stories about downed trees and power lines. Luckily we didn't lose power for long here, but neighborhoods nearby are still out. Last week our outages lasted for days. I do have the strange urge to check out the creeks and and streams that had been dry for so long, especially after this storm. It'll be so nice to see them running heavy. Stay safe, all!

Thankfully the brunt of the storm was south from where I am in Sonoma County. So while it rained all day and there was some wind it was nothing like the wind/rain south of me.
But there was a period of about 5 minutes where the wind really picked up and it poured, just poured. Then it was gone.
I see another window fell from a high rise. This time the building was 50 California and was where I worked until I retired.
Wild times.

it rained hard all night here in Santa Cruz area. We've been without power since 1pm yesterday. It's supposed to let up around noon. Roads are flooded and trees are down. Glad I can stay home today.
Be safe out there.

But certain freeways I add “the” to - including the 101 and 17. I did spend all my vacations growing up in Newport Beach so I guess it’s the so cal in me coming out. I’ll try to do better lol.

Native Santa Cruz County-ers (me) would just say "Uggh, I have to go over 17 today"! I'm just having a bit of fun. Anyway, the sun came out today and were drying up a bit. And thankful that after 27 hours the power is back on.

Our power was out for about 25 hours.
I have never seen a storm like that. The rain was going sideways for hours.
There’s supposed to be another one next Tuesday. 🫣

It was very bad here in San Jose. I have never seen wind like it. We have a huge huge ash tree in our backyard and the wind broke a giant branch off that then broke 5 other branches. We were very fortunate that it all fell in such a way that it landed 100% in our neighbor's yard and only broke a small part of the fence.
The most painful part was paying $5000 to get it carefully removed, ground up and taken away today. An arborist is coming next week to see if the tree can be saved. There is a good chance it is a gonner which makes me very sad.

My kid in Santa Cruz - his entire complex is still out of power. Not great timing when you have 24 credits and are in the middle of finals There is still more rain in forecast. I am so ready for warm weather.

(I’ll be driving 17 on Saturday- omg it just doesn’t sound right to leave “the” out 😆) That's why we say *I'll be taking 17* instead of *driving 17*. I agree with everyone about the weather. The back of our house gets the brunt and the houses behind us are so far down the hill that they don't give us a buffer from the wind/rain. Our screens are in shreds and will have to be rescreened. We often find our heavy metal patio chairs in the middle of the backyard! And now they say our mosquito season will be brutal. In 6 years living up here, I have never seen/felt a mosquito.
