For the past couple of months every few days or so I get a notification in my email from Instagram saying that my account password has been changed. I go through the process to verify with my two factor identification, I change my password and yet still hackers are still able to disable my account. Knock on wood, so far they have not done anything further. But I’ve also gotten notice from Microsoft, Facebook, and a couple of other less used sites that there have been attempts to access my account.
How do I get them to stop being able to gain access to my Instagram account? if I had to delete it and start all over again it’s not a big deal as I mostly use it as a place to waste time scrolling through cat videos, cookie, decorating videos, nail art videos… You know, all the important things lol. Right now it’s just more of a frustration having to go through all of the steps every couple of days to secure the account.
Thanks for any tips or advice for the situation.

Are you sure it’s from IG? I get messages from “Netflix” or “FB” saying my acct is expired or has unauthorized logins whatever. The email is usually not legit, that’s the first sign. I never click on the links from the email. I usually go to my account directly and verify it’s ok, make any changes there
I will say I am very disappointed in FB/IG security. I have a friend whose acct has been stolen from her and the person who has control is constantly posting scams - she has appealed to FB but they basically have done nothing to get her acct back.
I would go to your IG acct, sign out of all devices, and then change the PW there. And do not click on any emails offering “help” to authentic it. HTH!

Is your Instagram linked to Facebook? Maybe they've gotten access to FB and are using that to get to Instagram?

Is your Instagram linked to Facebook? Maybe they've gotten access to FB and are using that to get to Instagram? I get notifications all the time with a suggestion to link my accounts to Google or Facebook to make it easier for me to get into different sites. I won’t ever do that just for the reason you are dealing with right now. I figure the few seconds it takes me to log into something is not a big irritation. Going through having to repair after my accounts are all hacked will bug me no end. Besides, I probably go on Facebook once or twice a year. I’m not a social media person at all.

Yes, it appears real…if I go to IG, I am logged out, have to enter my password, which is now wrong, so have to reset through their verification process. I will try your other suggestions.

I get the Instagram hacked emails but they’re fake. It fooled me the first time, and I did change my password (not clicking on the link in the email) and set up two-factor authentication and I still get the emails several times a week.

But my real password no longer works, so something is happening???

If they are able to get past the two-factor authentication and still are able to change your password over and over, that is weird. I'd probably complain to Instagram, not that they'd do anything.

Isn't your two-factor authentication linked to a phone number to text or an email address that only you should have access too? I find it hard to believe someone is able to get past both over and over.

When I go through the authentication process it sends the code via text to my cell phone… not sure how they can get around that? I can switch it to send to my email instead so maybe I’ll try that next time. I’ve gone to all my other important accounts and updated passwords, added extra authentication etc. I really don’t want to change my email address though. And If the hackers aren’t actually doing anything with my account is it just the thrill of gaining access that thrills them? Who’s got time for that?

Sometimes you can get around 2FA if the device is a registered device. For instance, my laptop is a registered device with Google so they don’t send me a 2FA to get into my account. Maybe that is how they are getting around the security?! I don’t know. Just a guess. I hope you can get it all figured out and they stop messing with your accounts.
