We buy dog beds every 6 months because even though they say washable, we can never get the covers to fit back on.
But we are trying to stick to a budget, so want to find dog beds that you can wash the covers but the covers fit back on. I always wash according to instructions, but can never get them to fit back onto the foam bed. I admit I buy cheap beds ($30-$50) maybe that's the problem?
Does anyone have a recommendation?

Don't put the covers in the dryer and just let them air dry. They may be shrinking. Another option is to make a fitted sheet that just pops on over the bed. Easy to take off, wash and put back on.

I always air dry them, and wash them on delicate with cold water, so they shouldn't shrink. Not sure if they are just cheap and don't hold up to being washed, even though I follow the instructions. At the same time, I am afraid to spend a lot of money in case I have the same issue.

Gave up on dog beds. I have a large and medium sized dog and ended up getting then solid foam crib mattresses. They are covered with crib mattress pads and soft fitted crib sheets, plus their blankets. Just strip the Mattresses once a week and throw it all in the washer. So easy and the dogs smell nice and fresh, like clean laundry too. The mattresses last for years.

I would copy you, but my dog is only 10 pounds, so he doesn’t need a bed that big. And since he is small, he just sleeps in my bed with me. I do use cat beds though, and I have put them inside pillowcases to cut down on the number of times that I have to wash the actual cat bed instead of just the pillowcases. My one male cat is having accidents with his old age and it seems I am washing up after him more than once a day right now. Poor baby is struggling with his back legs so I don’t blame him at all. Since my fibromyalgia has really been flaring up more lately, I feel extra sympathetic for him.

Do you leave the mattresses out or put them in a closet and bring them out for bedtime?

I could look for a vinyl zipper mattress cover, then a mattress pad and crib sheets. Thanks so much! This may be the trick to get my new rescue dog to sleep on his mattress instead of the bed on top of me! And it's the same price as a pet bed.

You might be able to have a crib mattress made with one side a vinyl cover and the other side a fabric cover. We had one made forty three years ago.

Greyhounds do not really like to lay on hard surfaces so beds are always available and well used. Now the Whippet does not seem familiar with the floor concept and spends most of his time on the couches or various human beds. He sometimes uses the crib beds, but mostly furniture.

We get the dog beds that are mashing washable. You just throw the whole thing in the wash. There is no cover. I believe we get them at stores like home goods/tj max.

At the same time, I am afraid to spend a lot of money in case I have the same issue. We have had this dog bed from Amazon (with egg carton foam) for over 5 years. The cover has never shrunk and goes back on with no issues. Very affordable bed and the dog likes it. DH ordered a second dog bed from Orvis that has memory foam. The cover is also easy to put back on after washing, but it is a more expensive bed. Unless the dog has health issues it's probably a bit of overkill IMO.

Costco has good dog beds and I've never had the cover shrink washing on cold and low dry.

I have a few of these is other colors from past years. I have them in different rooms around the house. They are amazing. I throw the whole thing in the washer (I only take the pillow insert out of the pillow cover) and they come out looking like new every time. My dog also seems to really love his beds. jaxandbones.com/collections/lounge/products/luna-black-lounge-bed

Casper dog beds. I have 3 for 3 goldens and they are pricy but so well made. Washed every month and they go back together no problem. Still look brand new.

I went with a Kuranda cot for my Weim, she couldn’t chew it up, it was super easy to clean, and was great on her joints. www.kuranda.com

The last bed I purchased for my lab came from Bed Bath and Beyond. They have been purchased at TJ Maxx, Kohl’s, and Burke’s. There is one requirement…the inside edging is finished. None of those edges sticking out that catches hair, etc… Makes it easier to vacuum the crevices. There has only been one bed, in all the years of buying beds, that didn’t hold up to the drying. I wash and dry them. Girlie disemboweled the pillow type beds. They had to have edges to lay against, which meant the covers weren’t removable.

We use a fur rug that is washable. They love it because it's fluffy, I love it because it's easy to wash and pack.

Pet Fusion Ultimate Dog Bed with memory foam - on Amazon.
We loved the first one so much, we bought a second one so that both dogs have one. I have washed the cover and the inner liner, and they go back on great - even after a full dryer cycle. They aren’t cheap, but I love them, and I have had MANY dog beds over the years.
