5 weeks ago, I slipped on the ice and fell back straight on my head (my hands were full of stuff, and I did not break my fall). I went straight to ER, my daughter felt my head and said the bump was as big as her fist!
I had a cat scan and they said all was good. I did have some days after the injury where I was not thinking quite as clear but nothing too bad.
My question is...my head STILL hurts in that spot. When I brush my hair, lean against the headrest when driving etc. It feels like a very bad bruise.
Is this normal? I would think after 5 weeks the pain would have gone away.
Just curious if anyone else had this experience?

If you have a knot bigger than the size of a fist, it is going to take awhile to heal.
I have never fallen on my head but it was crunched in an auto accident and I have come up and hit that area of skull the cracked. The accident head injuries took months to heal and I would say a good 2 or 3 months for the other head injury to heal. I ended up in the Er throwing up with a huge bump and concussion. the area was very sore for a long time and they said it would be more tnder due to previous injury in that area from the auto accident.
If you are concerned you can always call your PCP. Did the Er have you set up a follow up appointment? I have always had follow ups within 2 weeks with my PCP any time I am at the ER and with the head injury, I had 2 follow ups to make sure everything was healing and I was over coming the concussion.

Yes, a bone bruise takes quite awhile to heal. That must have hurt like you know what! It should be easing off, but if it doesn't in the next couple of weeks, have it checked out again. {{Hugs}}

Thank you that makes sense! Sorry for your accident. I am not too concerned, just surprised how much it still hurts. I tried to google but I cannot find anything that relates to my injury.

I broke my wrist, (6 months ago) and it did not hurt this bad.

Its weird how some things can hurt worse than others. Iv'e had a paper cut hurt a whole lot worse than other scrapes and cuts that I've encounted before.

I had a place on my ankle/lower calf that took over a year. And I hit my head on the top of my head so often, there’s this one place that is just always sore and swollen.

Yes head trauma can take a long time to heal. When I met my DH he had just come out of the hospital with a fractured skull and brain swelling, I said he wasn’t in his right mind when he met me 😁 But he would actually get pretty debilitating migraines for several years. A lot of it was stress and fatigue induced which was a big part of his job at the time but he learned how to stay ahead of it most of the time.

I had brain surgery the later part of October and there is a place that STILL hurts and is very, very sensitive to touch and temperature. Could possible be some nerves that were affected.

Mine wasn't a fall but rather a kick in the head. I was picking my youngest son up off the floor in front of the bleachers at a basketball game because that wasn't a safe place to be. Which was quickly proven when a player ran off the court trying to keep a ball in bounds. He tried to leap over me, but his foot caught the side of my head right behind the ear. I saw stars... for quite a while. It bruised up badly in a hematoma that took a long time to completely heal. It was even painful to simply brush my hair for a while.
I would imagine having soreness even after five weeks is not uncommon. If it's "pain" I would seek further medical advice. Most likely you are healing and it's just a slow process. Hope you are completely healed soon!

Just curious if anyone else had this experience? It's possible its just a bad hematoma, but please go to your PCP and let them have a look, possibly a scan. My Mom's dear friend fell on the sidewalk in September 21 and didn't tell anyone. My Mom noticed her saying odd things and forgetting things and convinced her to see the doc. My Mom thought she was just starting early signs of dementia (she didn't know about the fall yet). Turns out she had THREE brain bleeds and a fracture in her skull. She had emergency surgery but because so much time had gone by, there was some permanent damage. Even now a year and a half later she just isn't quite right.
