I've known for a while now. They haven't officially announced it because he was waiting for the ring he ordered to come in. But they told me a few weeks ago that they have booked a venue and chosen a date, in August of 2024. But yesterday, my daughter gave me quite the shock when she told me they changed their minds, and they are getting married THIS July. In four months!! They changed the package at the venue; it offers an intimate wedding package which is basically for immediate family and the wedding party, 20 people plus the bride and groom. The price includes a small cake, flowers, and appetizers. Then, they are going to have a more casual reception a few days later. They decided to do this to save some $$, and I honestly think that is smart. They already have booked and paid for a cruise in August, so they decided that can be their honeymoon. They love to travel, and I know they will start trying fairly soon for a baby, and they want to do some traveling first as well as buy a bigger house. (Their house is super tiny). They just decided this would be a good way to still have a nice wedding and party, but not spend a ton of money. Not sure how we are going to plan a wedding in 4 months, though. LOL She, her maid of honor, and my other daughter are going wedding dress shopping tomorrow. I guess the good thing is that she isn't going to have the luxury of spending months looking at dresses, which knowing her, she would do. LOL It's nice to have something to look forward to, but holy cow! Wish me luck, and give me any tips you have for planning a wedding that fast. OH, and she thinks she might be getting the ring today. He made plans for a fun outing at a big park, with a picnic lunch, etc.

Congratulations. I planned my wedding in 4 months after having been a couple for years. It was small, but very elegant and it was lots of fun to plan. I hired a wedding coordinator who recommended certain places, but we were in charge of calling and doing the leg work. It made it much easier to plan a fast wedding and her fee was very reasonable. Have fun w/this.

LOL She's already got appointments at a couple of places to do the reception, she's already got a photographer who she they are meeting with this coming week to schedule engagement photos, etc. If anyone can pull this off, it's her. LOL

What a happy memory for you in 2023! It can be done and will be fabulous. I would imagine the venue she is using has a day of coordinator since they have packages. Now look for you a dress for the wedding and any other parties. You know the Peas are great scouts!

We planned ours in about 4 months too. 😁 (Basically, our officiant was like, sit down. Here's a date I'm free. It's in fall and you want a fall wedding. Go plan.)
Ours was pretty low-key, all things considered. We had 70 people including us. We also didn't do a lot of typical wedding stuff (no dance floor, no DJ [decided less than 2 months out to get a cellist, who was AMAZING], no booze); DH helped me pick out my dress (so scandalous! 🤣); only a MOH and best man.
I kept everything organized in Google Sheets (still have it if you want me to share/help you make one!):
- Tab 1 was our guest list (name, address, RSVP card #, yes/no RSVP). - Tab 2 was budget info: -- Venue -- Catering -- Cake -- Décor -- Stationery (invitations, RSVP cards, thank you cards) -- Favors -- Attire/rings -- Musician -- Extra rentals (chairs, tables, and a big tent) -- Marriage license -- My bouquet and MOH's bouquet -- Hair (which you couldn't even tell I had done when all was said and done since we did 98% of the set-up ourselves after -- Miscellaneous [cake topper, paper for printing some extra stuff at Office Depot, corsages/boutonneires, and flowers/pumpkins from Whole Foods])
Oh, and my uncle was our photographer.
Overall, we spent $7,878.44, and that's just outside of DC.

That's super exciting. There are so many ways to have a wonderful wedding. It doesn't need to be grand and super expensive. My daughter eloped in Patagonia last week . She and her husband hiked 25 kms into the mountains, put on their wedding outfits and were married. They hired a photographer from Banff who specializes in elopements. She was doing some destination weddings in Chile so they decided to wed there. The photographs are incredible.

How exciting! I think they are so smart having a smaller wedding and using the money that would have been spent toward getting their lives going and investing in a bigger home. I know that for some people, the wedding is everything and they have been planning it since they were little girls, which is fine. I always wanted to get married and have children, but I never planned on having a big wedding.
My parents had 3 daughters and Dad told each of us how much our wedding fund would be. He said we could spend it on the wedding, a honeymoon, or toward starting our lives. None of us went the expensive wedding route. My older sister chose Las Vegas and just immediate family. My younger sister chose a park at the beach at sunrise. And I got married in my Mom and Dad’s backyard with the guests sitting around the pool and us up on the deck so that everyone could see us adequately. I even made the bridesmaid dresses myself rather than have my girls pay a fortune for them. My parents made some of the food and ordered certain dishes catered. The focus was on the ceremony and then visiting with friends after. I think we were all happy that we chose small, intimate events.

We planned my sons wedding in 6 weeks. He and my daughter-in-law lived together, had a son together, bought a house and DIL had just finished nursing school. They figured why wait?
The wedding was in her parents backyard at their farm. The ceremony was under a large tree and they set up a tent for the reception. The local volunteer fire department grilled chicken and provided all the sides for the meal. They had a DJ, bar and lots of dancing. The highlight was a poutine bar at midnight. It was so much fun, fairly inexpensive and well planned in a short amount of time.
Have fun with the planning.

I think once you have the venue it’s not all that bad. Congratulations! The amounts people spend on wedding is ridiculous, good for them for being smart!

My youngest told me 14 days before they decided to get married. Then the oldest proposed to his girlfriend about a week later for a ceremony that would take place two months later... in our back yard. I just told them both to let me know what they needed and stayed out of it unless asked. Neither one booked a venue. I just rolled with it and they were both perfect weddings for what they wanted.
