I'm slightly cynical when people say we're going to have a huge storm, but I think since ALL the weather forecasters are predicting the same thing, they might be onto something. They even cancelled school for tomorrow in San Francisco!
Are you prepared? We always have water on standby & an emergency preparedness kit because, earthquakes, but I suppose tonight I should check all the batteries in the flashlights & the radio!

Oh no. I hadn't heard. My son just moved to San Francisco last week. He absolutely loves it there. Going to call him now and see how's he's doing.

I guess I should dig out the flashlights. Our power rarely goes out, though. The most important thing is that I remembered to close my bathroom window. Bathroom kinda flooded last time I forgot during a big storm. My son's work (downtown Oakland) told him to work from home tomorrow.

Just talked to my son, he is working from home tomorrow so hopefully he'll be ok. He heard 70 mph winds and lots of rain. Yikes. Stay safe you guys!

We're in the hills and are expecting 50-70 mph winds, which we've had before. It's noisy but since this isn't our first rodeo we've got pretty much everything secured. (I hope.) It's actually already starting to get windy here.
Food-wise, not in great shape if I want to eat well. I have a gas cooktop so I can heat things up if I need to. I suppose I should go to the store. We have enough earthquake supplies to last a week, but I really don't want to eat THAT food if I don't have to.
Roberta Gonzalez was on Alice this morning talking about the predictions. She said this storm is not weakening. It will either be as predicted or worse.
Stay safe, everyone!

I'm in Northern Ca (WAY Northern) and it has been nasty here for most of the day. We're supposed to get close to 5 inches of rain by tomorrow night. There was a report from our airport with wind gusts of 57mph.
Our power is starting to flicker now.
Hope this storm dissipates a bit before it heads south!

We're on the same grid as a major hospital in the South Bay, so hopefully our power won't go out. My husband and I will have to *gasp talk to each other instead of spending time on our various computers/iPads/iPhones. The only thing I'm worried about is the 100 ft Douglas fir trees next to our house. Hopefully the wind won't blow them down, or if they do get blown down, they don't hit our house or any of our neighbors' houses!

I'm with you, OP, I'll believe it when I see it. Too any years of over-hype and "storm watch" broadcasting and a bunch of fizzling storms. However my son was supposed to drive home from college tomorrow and I asked him to wait till Friday. I don't mind being wrong and wishing I had a few extra candles, but not taking that chance with Ds driving in horrific conditions.

As best as I can. Just went out and put away anything that could fly off my balcony.
The rain has started here in Sonoma County. And it's not a drizzle....

Our office holiday party is tomorrow night at 6. I wish they would email everyone and tell us to wear jeans and warm sweaters instead of cocktail attire. UGH, I hate to go out in weather like that.

I just went out to bring in our bird feeder and somebody's chickens are going crazy. They must not like wind.

I'm in Monterey and it looks like our weather shenanigans aren't supposed to really kick off until tomorrow afternoon. I moved here from Florida though, so I am pretty used to heavy rain and some wind. I am slightly concerned about the fact that I live on a hill and would prefer that my home not slide down into the Monterey Bay. I'm a candle junkie, so we should be good in the light department and I have a nicely stocked bar as well. Kindle is fully charged and our oven/stove and water heater are gas. None of that will do any good though if the house goes in the water.

In San Jose here and the rain hasn't started yet. It has looked ominous for the past hour or so though. We don't have any wind either yet.

It's the same with us. We might have to play yahtzee or cribbage. I'm on the Monterey Bay, so far it's just clouding up. But it's supposed to rain like the dickens tomorrow. Just checked with DH and our hatches are battened.

We also have the usual preparedness, water, batteries, food per earthquake preparedness standards so yes, we are prepared, we don't have a generator yet but i don't expect to be without power for any extended period of time. I do have to go out but it's only over the hill, about 10 miles. My guess is my husband will work from home.
I think the school closures in advance of the storms are a good idea. Particularly in the northbay where they storm is supposed to hit hardest.
Got stuff in the patio covered and tied down. Hardest part will be getting the dogs out to potty without getting soaked!

DH lowered the patio umbrella so it doesn't fly away and raked all the leaves in the front yard so they don't clog the drain next to our house. Other than that I guess we're ready. I guess when we all prayed for rain we should have specified we didn't want it all in one fell swoop!

We almost always lose power and are usually the last ones to get it back so we are well prepared. I went and got candles and batteries and groceries. We have lots of firewood and ao are as prepared as we can be.

We about 90 miles east of San Jose and it is as calm as can be here. We so need the rain, but I could do with the wind.

I hope everyone stays safe and there isn't too much flooding or damage from the winds. We are supposed to get it Thursday night and Friday. As much as I like the rain I do wish it would come a bit slower and not cause damage. I would like it to be able to soak in and do some good.

It started raining here about 20 minutes ago. I'm very skeptical that this will be some kind of super storm though. I think I have just seen too much hype and it cracks me up that people are planning on staying home from work and school tomorrow before we even know what happens. It's not like a hurricane or a tornado or something... Californians really don't know how to handle weather.

I kind of agree with you, and I kind of think it's probably smart to have people stay home. I don't think cities have appropriately maintained their storm drains, and I think there could be a lot of urban flooding. There are a lot of dead trees and the risk of them blowing over is pretty high if there are severe winds. Where I live, this will likely happen and will probably cause power outages. I think the combination of floods, road debris, and power outage is not a good one. I think better safe than sorry.

Starting to rain harder here. I work for local government, so that means I am on standby for emergency operations. Quite a few people are working from home tomorrow. I will see how it is in the morning.

I did take down all my patio furniture/umbrella, and am going to get flashlights and a lantern out just in case. I have school tomorrow from 11:30-1:30 and it's my last class, but if it's really crappy out there I'll stay home.

We're in the Santa Cruz mountains and the latest report is up to 10 inches of rain and 80mph winds - WTF - isn't that hurricane winds???
Thankfully we had a lot of redwoods chopped down a couple of years ago purely because they were a danger to our house, but we still have 5 of them within about 15 feet of the house. Last week a huge branch came down narrowly missing dh's car.
I stocked up on bottled water and logs for the fire, we have gas for the generator, and propane for the lamps.
I'm still in shock our little mountain school is open tomorrow. Apparently schools in Fremont are closed tomorrow, yet our school in the middle of the redwoods is open - seems dumb to me.
I'm expecting to lose power for a few days, and there's a very big chance we won't even be able to get out of our road by this time tomorrow. Trees always fall and pull down power lines.
Maybe it will be a work from home day for me tomorrow - that's if we have internet.

I'm in Marin County and the wind is picking up now with no rain right now. Last week we had a storm that brought with it flooding and major traffic headaches; tomorrow's storm is predicted to be much bigger so I'm glad schools are closed.
