Sen. Mike Moon reiterates support for 12-year-old's right to marry in Missouri. During debate Tuesday on a bill banning gender-affirming care for transgender minors, Missouri State Senator Mike Moon suggested children as young as 12 should have the right to marry with parental permission. 😳😡
Aaaaannnddd… The Missouri House on Thursday approved a Republican-led bill that would ban gender-affirming care for anyone under 18. I’m ok with an age limit but I think 18 too high. Especially if a 12 yr old could be allowed to get married. 😒

If a 12 year old, in Missouri, can be married, they then should also be allowed to make medical decisions, including trans and abortion decisions... They would have the FULL right to do it!!

I expect no less from those inbred hillbillies.
Anyone who professes that they love their state even though they don't agree with the leaders of said state are complete fools! You better believe I'd pick up and leave at any cost.
This country is done and frankly I'm to the point where I just do not have anymore fucks to give.

I don’t know about that MI is now led by democrats and they are doing great things. Repealed an ancient law outlawing abortion that Republicans have been using to create laws. Abortion is legal here. They’ve also repealed the income tax on retirements. We now have a required background check to buy guns at gun shows, which we’ve never had. They’ve added educational money for schools. They repealed the so called right to work law here. It’s been a wonderful change. Governor Whitmer won by 11 points. I can’t wait to see what she will do with Democrats controlling it all.

My aunts all got married at 16, which even when I was growing up, sounded absurdly young (my mother married at 19 which also sounded young, but was at least an adult age).
I have thirteen-year-old twins and the idea that anyone their age is ready for marriage? I cannot.

Why are we only focused on the age of the girls? Would these same people be happy with 12 year old boys getting married.

I think that I think more in terms of the girls’ age because I believe these laws are meant to protect and encourage pedophile men to groom relationships with girls that they go on to control. I think that women who have intimate relationships with boys are relatively rare, in comparison. Because, I don’t think that this is really meant to apply to two 12-y.o.’s marrying. They still wouldn’t be legally able to make medical and financial decisions/commitments, since neither is of age. But, if an adult marries a child, they then can take over those responsibilities from the parents (and the control, of course).

But I agree that they would be appalled if a 12 yr. old boy got married, they just want the girls to suffer.

Actually in this specific case for this particular person - it is both genders. Moon apparently knew a couple 12 year olds who married and lived happily ever after and brought it up during Missouri's move to change the legal age to marry from 15 to 16 a few years ago. Someone else commented on it during the gender-affirming legislation asking how he could possibly be against those under 18 making health care decisions if he though 12 year olds should be allowed to marry (I'm paraphrasing obviously) and included some discussion about adults raping girls, so on twitter he reiterated that it was two 12 year olds and the girl was pregnant from what I can see on news reports - not a Missourian, so take it for what it's worth.

Missouri is politically the anus of America … I don’t know for sure because Texas and Florida are good contenders. I think we think of Missouri being in the middle of the country should make a difference. Of course we are wrong and they are showing the world how bad they are. We have always known about most of the southern states politicians..

12 years old! Hopefully he is just a lone kook, and it won’t go anywhere. So much for the party of strong family values. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/SCylSBljj3e3QKjxF2vn.jpg)

It’s almost always young girls who have been preyed upon by older men or boys — often with their parents permission and encouragement. It’s too young for anyone to get married. It’s ironic that they are old enough to get married or raise a baby but not old enough or mature enough to make the decision not to continue with a pregnancy

Missouri is not done with the punishment... Children AND adults!!. Transgender adults face 'egregious' barriers to care under new Missouri rules, advocates warn2023/04/14 Star/Kansas City Star/TNS JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri's foremost LGBTQ advocacy group raised alarm on Friday that adults currently receiving transgender medical care will face "egregious" barriers to continued treatment under new emergency rules in Missouri. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, a Republican, on Thursday published rules that will apply to all Missourians starting April 27. "Gender-affirming health care will be very challenging to access for transgender adults and transgender youth going forward," said Shira Berkowitz, spokesperson for the Missouri advocacy group PROMO. Bailey had previously only mentioned regulations for minors, and his office only acknowledged the expanded rules when questioned by the news media. National LGBTQ rights groups have condemned Bailey's action affecting transgender people of all ages. "It will chill the effect of providers being able to provide care to their current patients and their future patients," Berkowitz said. "And it's going to continue to instill a huge amount of fear and sadness in a community that is ... being used as political pawns." While Bailey's public statements have so far focused on minors, his spokeswoman acknowledged Thursday night the emergency regulations would affect everyone. Puberty blockers, hormone therapies and surgeries would be restricted under the regulation. nordot.app/1019725380059529216

Adults have been told to hurry up and be grandfathered in, too. I'm not even sure that'll be possible, but it would at least be something.
