Were pretty sure we are going to be in Baltimore for at least the next 6 months so we're considering doing a furnished rental to avoid running into the upswing in summer weekend renters on airbnb. I saw this place and fell in love so we went to see it yesterday. The showing was super odd, we met a realtor and he showed it to us but the owner sat outside and didn't say a word at all and then they drove off together. It's been on the market 56 days so far and she's leaving it because she's getting married. I'm wondering if she doesn't really want to rent it or is having cold feet. Just weird overall. I'd sign the papers in a second but im not at all confident she's actually going to rent it. I'll be in heaven if we get to live here, hopes aren't high but it's worth sharing anyway. This was a Martini Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1867-1977 and was repurposed into condos in 1989 by Elinor Bacon (Kevin Bacon's sister). Send all the good juju this way, I'll probably pass out if she actually decides to rent it. Its a 2bed 2.5 bath woth a pool, park, gym, amd tennis courts across the street and close enough to view both stadiums. The courtyard is private with a mature shade tree and it has parking šš Update: this is seriously a beautiful property but after more sporadic communication I just can't get past my feeling that if she's this awkward now it's not going to get any better. I withdrew our interest and let them know we are no longer interested. It's a great property but if I do a longer rental I want to go into it feeling positive and there are still red flags that I can't put my finger on, it just doesn't feel right. We may continue to do places for a week or two at a time and if the right place comes along we will do longer term but for now I'm choosing to nope out of there. One more time for those arches š The photos don't do it justice, I can't get over how beautiful it is!

My guess is that she is nervous about renting, because renting out one's home is always risky. If the landlord has never rented their home out before, I can understand why they are hesitant.
One never really knows or can predict the tenants behavior >> the tenant loves it and takes care of the home in a satisfactory manner or the tenant completely trashes the place....... or anything in-between. There's also the financial risk. Once a tenant moves in there's no guarantee that the tenant will pay the rent in a timely manner. Even with legal contracts in place, a tenant can default on the rent and getting a tenant evicted is not an easy process.

I definitely understand all of that and realize not everyone is as crazy as I am about keeping things clean and there is no way to tell until it's too late so I'm not holding onto much hope. The realtor asked for the link to our short term rental reviews where they're all positive and say the houses were cleaner than when we arrived, their training certificates and pet rating scores, and our last 3 landlords info so we will see what happens. The more I think about it I'm not sure if I want to commit to It with the vibes she was throwing. The pups certainly won't be mad if we end up in a hotel for some weekends. They miss room service š

They miss room service š It's possible that your "homeless" status is what is giving her some misgivings, along with big dogs. Perhaps you could contact a previous ABnB homeowner and ask for a reference that is more than the review? You can also have your realtor ask what you can do to make them comfortable with renting to you. I'd say a higher deposit, but a lot of landlords count on not getting the deposit back and could invent issues to keep it. We've had similar reference issues in the last decade. Both were nice houses that had been recently remodeled. I think they saw military and the big dog and were concerned. For one home, I wrote the homeowner a letter about us and had 2 previous landlords give references. Our current house just wanted the money since our last rental was overseas. One negative about renting to fussy people is that they typically have a lot of issues letting go of the house. We've had a few issues like that with the wife of the current house. She really micromanages a lot, but luckily puts her DH on the job who either trusts us or doesn't care. Ironically, I've cleaned this house way more than it was when we moved in. And the lab is a couch potato whose worst transgression is nose prints on the front door!

That is one stunning dwelling! I adore the high ceilings and the shape of the openings that were no doubt there from the church. I would want to live there too!
My one thought - will she allow dogs in that apartment? If I remember correctly, you have a couple of dogs with you, is that correct?

And the lab is a couch potato whose worst transgression is nose prints on the front door! That's what I thought initially but that's actually why they like us. They were excited when I told them all of our stuff was in storage and we were fine with it being fully fully furnished. I keep in touch with quite a few airbnb owners where we've stayed and they're good with it since this area has so many medical professionals who travel and do short term rentals. I think it's the dogs 100% after today, I completely completely understand it and we offered to do the full deposit plus a pet deposit but especially with his size i would be unsure too. I ended up messaging last night and asked if she would be more comfortable doing a short stay for a week or so she can check us out with lower risk and she told the realtor that she really loves how I love the property and she thinks that's a great idea so we're working out a weekend to see how it goes. It ends up being perfect for us also because I want to make sure we love it and this gives us a trial without a longer commitment and i want both of us to go into a longer term with no hesitation at all. I'm excited, I at least get to use the bathtub! Ha

I'm sure it's the size of Zeus, although he's definitely the most trustworthy š He's definitely intimidating, but I think he will win her over.
