I took DS to get measured for a tux last week. He picked a black Michael Kors slim fit tux. This week, we were visiting my sister and she asked what color his date's dress was. I said red, and DS said no, actually its navy blue. I guess she had a red dress and then got a different one. So, is that going to look bad, a black tux against a navy blue dress? I am not even sure we can change another color, and but if we could, would you go with black, or something else? He has a navy blue suit that we got him last year - his then date was a junior, and he was just a sophmore, and we found out the week OF prom that she was invited. But this year, he didn't want to wear the suit again and asked to get a tux.

If he picked out the tux then it's what he wants to wear, it's a school dance it's not really going to matter.

I think a black tux goes with any color of dress. Maybe he can get a navy ribbon on his boutonniere or a navy colored handkerchief for his pocket?

The black will be fine.
One manufacturer's navy blue isn't the same as another's so it'll look worse with two shades of dark blue.

I think gray would look better with navy blue but black will be fine if you can’t change it.

I love black with blue and most of the kids at my daughter’s school don’t match their tuxes to their dates’ dresses

Black will be perfect. He can get a navy bowtie and cumberbund if he'd like.

While a black suit is timeless & coordinates with everything, I personally prefer a charcoal suit paired with navy. Hope he has a safe & fun prom!

Does his date have a preference? I know I did 35+ years ago with DH, who was then a boyfriend. Otherwise, I'd stick with black. Two different shades of navy would not be good!

Not sure any of the tuxes had cumberbunds - but boys still match ties to dress around here.

A black tux with a navy dress is way better than a navy suit with a navy dress IMO. The navys either wouldn't match, which would look weird, or they would, which would also look weird lol

I am not a fashion expert but, over the years I have learned a LBD goes just about anywhere. I would think a black suit, white shirt and tie would also.

I think he should pick a tux he likes just as his date should pick a dress she likes. Black tux and navy dress sounds like a great match! You will have to post pictures!

Haha, my daughters think that's funny too! They didn't know what their boyfriend/date was wearing until they met for pictures. The kids don't really worry about matching much at our school district.
