Hi everyone! I'm feeling slightly more human today but still not great I need to go to the grocery store this morning and that is all I'll be doing today. This is what I posted on Facebook today ... now that I get Hello Fresh I rarely buy more veggies ... any I do buy just don't get eaten. I don't know what dinner will be tonight ... chances are I won't feel like cooking so it will probably be takeout of some sort! What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

leannec, it's good that you're going to the doctor on Monday. This has gone on way too long and you deserve to feel good. I wish you a relaxing, restorative weekend. Dh is gonna put our tomatoes in the ground and do some other prep work. His happiest place is the garden in spring, so It's going to be a nice day. I finished the border of my newest puzzle and will be happily working on that today. Dinner is rechauffe chicken sandwiches. Ods will be here at some point and he already knows that its' a rechauffe night. Happy, relaxing, fun weekend, everyone!!!

I am hosting a dinner party and here is the menu:
Beef mushroom Rouladen, spazle, roasted broccoli & yellow pepper strips & blistered grape tomatoes, sweet kale salad, butter dinner rolls, homemade applesauce, hazelnut-raspberry torte with nutella, raspberry & whipped cream filling topped with whipped cream, raspberries and a dusting of cocoa-hazelnuts. Looks really pretty.
The filling in the rouladen is finely minced onion, garlic, bacon, red & green peppers, veal-pork-beef mince and mushrooms in a small amount of beef broth. I put a small amount of a grainy mustard on the beef slices, added the filling and rolled them up tight & tied them with kitchen string. I poured the rest of the broth with some minced mushrooms over the top. As the beef slices were still slightly frozen, it was easy to work with. This is now marinating.
I will lightly fry them and then bake them in a mushroom-beef gravy until done.
This is the first formal dinner party I am hosting since Covied, so I am excited to break out the good china & crystal.
Edited to add that this is to celebrate Ukrainian Easter. My mom was born in Southern Ukraine.

It is still rainy and cold here. I wish spring would Hutu up and arrive. Today has been rather lazy here. DH did the grocery shopping this morning, but we didn’t need much, especially as he is leaving for the week tomorrow morning. I went out for my walk after lunch and beat the rain by about 10 minutes. This afternoon has been football on TV and knitting. I finished one sweater for me yesterday and have picked up another one I cast on at the same time.
Dinner tonight is going to be beef stew. DH made plenty so I will have leftovers for one night while he is gone.

Love the meme leannec. We're heading out for a walk. We're taking a new-to-us trail with a hidden lake. I forgot to mention that when I went to my bone density scan yesterday that masks are no longer required at the medical building. I was in the elevator with a young woman who said she gave birth last year and had to wear a mask all during labor and delivery. I can't imagine. Dinner is yet to be decided.

sueg, my mother used to have a waiting list from people who wanted her sweaters. When you talk about knitting it takes me to a very happy place. cadoodlebug, labor is bad enough just being labor. That poor woman.

scrapmaven - my mum also used to have a waiting list for sweaters, but hers were all her own kids (7 of us)! It is part of the reason I learned to knit and sew - I didn’t have to wait for her to get around to making something for me. cadoodlebug - masks in medical facilities was the last covid measure to go here. I think it was last Saturday that it finally finished. Though, 2 weeks ago when I went to the dermatologist, very few people, both staff at the clinic and patients, were wearing them. I have a pre-appointment for my colonoscopy on Thursday, so I’ll see how that goes regarding masks. I am going to take one with me anyway, in case.

Good morning my dinner company. Today I plan to take life easily and just chill out. I will walk the dog a couple of times, maybe go to the fabric store and then watch sports on tv (they will be on regardless…)
Dinner tonight will feature halibut with miso and saké sauce if I can concoct a recipe.
Have a wonderful day everyone!

Another gorgeous day today. Tomorrow the temps drop and the rain begins. We’ve gotten a lot of yard work done this week so happy about that.
I took Walker for a walk this morning before it got too hot. Since then, I’ve been sitting on the deck with my book.
I weighed myself this morning and I’ve lost 15 lbs. I’ve been intermittent fasting, cut out snacks and generally being more active due to Walker. This morning I put on a pair of shorts that I couldn’t wear last summer because they were too tight. I’m very happy!
Supper will be grilled steak, grilled potatoes, a veggie and salad.

WTG, taylortroop. Your little puppy is supporting your efforts to improve your health. Think of Walker as your furry little cheerleader.

Congrats taylortroop on your weight loss. I know my dog gets me out walking even when I don't feel like it. Your adorable Walker deserves an extra treat. 😁 quiltz Yum scrapmaven what kind of tomatoes are you planting? My DH took our sweet guy to the self service dog wash. I expect zoomies on his return. We need to go to Home Depot and buy a few more plants and hopefully get them in the ground. I have some other to do's on my list. Tonight I will make yesterdays menu with rack of lamb because of after reading all the recipes I saw it would be best to marinate and get to room temperature before cooking and it was too late for that. So last night we decided to take out the Vietnamese food I've been craving.

Been a busy saturday getting our outdoor cushions out of storage and cleaned up - I really should buy some new ones, but they're just so darn expensive, I think I'll try and squeeze another year out of them. I found some beef stew in the freezer and threw it in the crockpot - figured if we didn't make it now it wouldn't get eaten as we head into spring. I'd love to do some planting, but too early for us!

Let's see...sat thru another tough loss of a baseball game, aka let's see how much direct sun I can get/avoid! Got the idea that cooking out for the first time of the season sounded like a great alternative to the lasagna assembly line we had planned, since it is nice today and supposed to rain tomorrow. So we stopped at the store for deli salads and stuff ..how did I spend $60?? We decided to take a ride past the beach to finish listening to NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't tell me. While there we decided we should get obe of those little disposable grills and come back to the beach to cook out. So we stop at Dollar General. Of course they don't have them do Nick gets a table top grill and a bag of matchlight charcoal. 49 bucks later and I am asking how did thus idea just cost us a hundred dollars (esp since i already had burgers, hot dogs and buns!)?? Back in the car and it starts to rain.
Wth?? I had JUST looked at the weather app in the car. Maybe just look at the sky instead??
We get home and consider going shopping and to eat into IL, then decide to give it about an hour. Nick going out to his Mini Menards (garage) and magically produces a brand new table top grill we found last season at a garage sale. He puts it together and decides to go get a little propane cylinder and some lava rock. The sky is blue now so I think our beach bbq is on. Of course now I kind of want to pass, bc I don't feel like packing all the stuff up to go, haha. But if we go, the menu is hot dogs and burgers (enough to heat up for lunches this week), pasta salad, Cole slaw, macaroni salad, a jalapeño cream cheese dip and chips. We may take the pups, which means we have really lost our minds (bc they will certainly lose theirs!).

I love that meme leannec , it's so accurate! We went out for dinner with friends. We'd planned to go to one of our favourite Thai restaurants, but it was shut, so our friends chose a new-to-us Malaysian hawker kitchen, which has recently opened opposite our regular Vietnamese place. The food was so good, we'll definitely go back. I won't bother uploading the photos, there are too many! We had: Crab Ballz - Crumbed surimi crab claws Kataffi Prawns - Prawns wrapped in kataffi strands, lightly fried & served w/ sweet chilli herb sauce Satay Chicken - Grilled chicken skewers w/ peanut sauce. Char Kuay Teow - Rice noodles wok tossed w/ Chinese sausage, seafood, chives, bean shoots & egg Nasi Lemak Chicken Curry - Coconut rice, sambal bilis, pickled vegies, peanuts & egg Murtabak - Asian 'roti toastie' filled w/ minced lamb, potatoes & onion served w/ curry dip Salt & Pepper Squid - Wok tossed with diced sweet pepper, shallots & chilli Mongolian Beef Roti with peanut sauce I had to chuckle, one of the dishes that I ordered (Nasi Lemak) also had dried anchovies in it, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. DSO, who doesn't like anchovies, didn't realise what they were, and ate some by mistake. He realised pretty quickly what they were, once they were in his mouth! At least he had the good grace not to spit them out onto his plate.

A friend drove up from Half Moon Bay (over an hour away) this morning. She needed to pick up a box full of items I’d been holding for her, since an event she’d had to cancel on attending last summer. Her husband was very ill for a long time, and then he died last month. So she was finally able to get away today and I was very happy to see her. I did talk her into taking some of my craft supplies home with her, too. Anyway, she and I and my sister had lunch at the local Benihana-like restaurant. We hadn’t been there in a couple of years, and it was great to be back. I had really lovely, perfect, tender scallops. Now I just ate some rechauffe artichoke (with mayo, since it was cold artichoke) and that will do for dinner. There may have been some chocolate happening mid-afternoon, too. quiltz, your dinner party menu is fabulous. Wish I were there. tmarschall, your day sounds hilarious. And expensive. I need to hear where and what you ended up eating.

tmarschall, your day sounds hilarious. And expensive. I need to hear where and what you ended up eating. Sorry it is so late! We putzed around and decided to just cook out at home. I had a bunch of burgers and hot dogs ready to throw on the grill...if you're going to the trouble, might as well cook it all! BUT Nick decided he wanted ro try out the "new" little grill. So here we have a mobster frill ( his), a normal size grill (mine), and a smoker (mine), and he is doing a handful of burgers and dogs on this little dinky grill, which took forever to cook everything, and not evenly bc it was loaded. It will be perfect for the beach or a picnic cookout, but maybe not what we usually do at home. That said, it was delicious!! He did great. I tend to micromanage...I was on my own a long time, and I was the grillmaster. I have turned a lot of it over to him, but he likes to play music, fiddle around with the burgers, have a beer...and I am giving him the eye on the time and making sure the marinade is right, etc. I need to let it go, lol. We had all the deli salads and his grilling was perfect. We went to DQ and took it to the beach. Then home to the hot tub. A great night! I am sorry for your friend's husband. 💔

tmarschall, thank you, and there’s nothing better than burgers and dogs cooked on the grill! Glad you had a good dinner. We were talking over dinner and I said man...I think I'd really rather have this over steak. I mean, I wouldn't turn down some arrachera or a ribeye, but darn it was good!
