What would be the best vacuum for pets that shed? The very best. lol Now I don't probably have the money for THE very best... but if I had the funds for a good machine what should I get. The hair is IMPOSSIBLE.
I have carpet from the stairs up and hardwood (fake) on the lower level.
I have a stick Shark that does a good spot cleaning on the hardwood. It's not that great on the carpet.
I have an old Oreck that I could maybe have cleaned up and back to new.. it was an awesome machine, but it is over 20 years old now. But I figured something have gotten better and my Oreck is just old and ready to retire. I was on my hands and knees over the weekend getting the hair out of corners and such. I NEED something good.

I bought a Sebo as my last vacuum. It is a German brand. I went to the repair store and asked them what brand seems to need the most repairs and what kind rarely ever comes in. I asked about the Dyson. He said he gets them in for repair all the time. He showed me the Sebo. His store has a section with 6 or 7 kinds of flooring for you to test a vacuum on. He spread this fur-type stuff, crumbled stuff, and bird seed across all the floors and the showed me the Sebo.
It cleaned up ALL the hair in one pass! I was impressed. Then he went from the carpets to the hard surface floor and nothing shot out from the sides as he went across the mixture of fur, crumbles, and seeds. It left a clean swath right down the middle! Then he tossed a rag onto the floor and vacuumed over it to show me that the machine will shut itself off instead of gobbling up something that it shouldn’t, clogging up the works. I bought one on the spot, which is rare for me since I was at the beginning stages of research.
I had it cleaned and a new cord put on right before my move. The house I bought has central vacuuming so I guess I wouldn’t need mine anymore. Plus, you are not supposed to use the roller function on wood. I will be keeping mine though, because I love it and to use for small messes. It is faster to get it out than the central system hose. I will still have a few floors that can be vacuumed with it, just not the wood.

Get the canister Shark with more power for the carpet. Best bang for your buck.

Dyson years ago used to be great. My animal lasted 8 years so I bought another. That one has been junk. Never again.

I hated our Dyson Animal. It’s heavy as hell and I’m sure it contributed greatly to my shoulder issues, plus it was crazy expensive. I have a Shark Navigator now and I love it. It’s so much lighter weight and it gets up the dog hair at least as well as the Dyson ever did. My only complaint is that the little brush roller that attaches to the wand isn’t awesome. I’m thinking of getting one of those Uproot Clean tools I keep seeing advertised online to use on the carpeted stairs and then just use the vacuum to suck up the clumps of hair.

I have a Miele C3 that I love! DH encouraged the purchase despite my objections over the expense. The fact that the beater bar attaches to the handle itself was what pushed me to agree to spend that kind of money. It is fabulous for vacuuming carpeted stairs.
Mind I was vacuuming daily at the time. 4 critters in residence at the time. Girlie turned out to be responsible for 92% of the shedding.
Also, I like to vacuuming. Helps with the pain and stiffness from the Fibro.

Okay looking more at the Meile. I'm a little scared of the price. But it is really needed!

Okay looking more at the Meile. I'm a little scared of the price. But it is really needed! Maybe this will calm your fears. We had THREE Dysons that only lasted about 2-3 years. Pieces of junk. I said "no more." Bought our Miele Cat and Dog 12 years ago, and it's still running like new, and we have 3 dogs with LOTS of hair. Best $$ ever spent on a vacuum.

We have two German shepherds and tons of dog hair to contend with. We currently use a Dyson animal on the 2-3 carpeted rooms and a Dyson V-11 stick on the slate and hardwoods. I do find the big Dyson tiring to use. The rechargeable stick one I love, love, love. The trick with Dysons is to clean the filters frequently. They keep really great suction that way.
That said, when one or both of these die, we’re looking at replacing with the Miele Cat & Dog just based on all we’ve heard about them.

I could have written this same thing except I only have 1 German Shepherd. The dog hair is no joke with this breed. Especially now that we are in coat-blowing season! I make him wear a onesie when he has to ride in the car

I make him wear a onesie when he has to ride in the car Don't get me started on hair in my car. Ugh. I keep a rubber-tooth broom thing that pulls that hair up in big clumps so it's much easier to vacuum out. That said, there is still *always* dog hair in my vehicle.

My Dyson animal vacuum is a good one. It doesn't vacuum up the animal, but it does a great job on the errant fur that is all over the house, due to shedding for spring.

Sanitaire Professional.Have Newfs and it has lasted 10 years years. Much cheaper than buying a vacuum per year.
