Darn, I wanted all those anchors to have to testify. SO DID I!!!! I really wanted people to see/hear the extent of the lies. People do not pay as much attention to a settlement as the do a real live trial. One thing I did as a prosecutor was take plea offers off the table if we got to the day of trial. I wish the attorneys for Dominion would have said no deal so we all could have weeks of hearing about how awful Fox is (my dream scenario).

Dominion, lawyer Justin Nelson speaking
The truth matters
787.5 million dollars (What happened to the billion?)
CEO Dominion... John Poulos.. Historic decision "FOX has admitted telling lies about Dominion"..
Lawyer states "More to come"
No discussion about anything else in settlement..

Darn, I wanted all those anchors to have to testify. And by doing so, hopefully Fox News would have had to air some of this. As a person who has a person that listens to Fox, I really, really wanted him to hear something that he thinks I get from fake news places. Like when I said something about GOP lawmakers kicking out TN House Reps. "where did you hear that? from the only place that gives out the truth?" yeah y'all that is what led up to me almost being in jail. There were no words exchanged after that for quite some time. I am realizing, slowly but surely, nothing I say is going to change his mind on how he feels. As the same is for me with him trying to convince me that any of the Rs will ever get my vote again or that they are telling the truth.

FOX chickened out. I really want to know the terms of the settlement. I think it spooked them that the judge appointed a special master. I’ve no doubt there are lots more damning information in those documents that were redacted.

I wonder if there was more statements or emails that Fox was worried would come out in the trial? I wonder who else Dominion is planning to go after? Has Dominion sued Mike Lindell yet? www.washingtonpost.com/media/2023/04/18/dominion-fox-trial/Shortly after both parties announced a settlement of $787.5 million, Dominion attorney Justin Nelson praised the agreement Tuesday afternoon. “Today represents a ringing endorsement for truth and democracy,” Nelson said at an afternoon news briefing. “Lies have consequences. The truth does not know red or blue.”[
After the surprise settlement with Fox News was announced, Dominion lawyer Stephen Shackelford said the company was not done holding people accountable, but did not specify who. “We are not done yet,” Shackelford told reporters. “We have some other people who have some accountability coming toward them.”
Dominion attorney Justin Nelson told reporters: “Truth has meaning. Lies have consequences.”

What a load of bullshit. FOX is never going to actually admit anything now. Unless the settlement terms force FOX and it's anchor say they lied on air this isn't going to do anything to keep this country afloat. FOX will just go back to doing what they always do, LIE.

I don't know about pillow guy, but their suits against Giuliani and Powell are still ongoing. ETA: Just checked--yep, they sued Lindell.

i think a stipulation to the settlement is no admission to wrongdoing. fox will just say they want to move on, want to avoid any further disruption, don't want a protracted trial, blah blah blah....

I am really annoyed that they don’t have to publicly in air multiple times and not just in the middle of the night admit and tell that they made the whole story up. I don’t want them to claim that the first amendment is dead I swear I heard that comment somewhere about this trial. No you can report the news yes you can have an opinion but to go off with these wild conspiracies that are easily proven false no.

I really wanted Dominion to refuse to settle so the truth would have to come out publicly. There had better not be a "no admission of guilt" as part of this. Fox should have to broadcast retractions for exactly as long as they spewed their lies. They should also have to remove "News" from their name as they do not report the news

It would have been in the public interest to find out how FOX disseminates misinformation. In this case I feel it was about the money and less about the truth.

I agree with Jon Stewart on this one:
"Their business model is lying…and paying a bit of the profit they make from lying isn’t accountability… #FOX #lyingtax"
I'm so disappointed that they settled, and don't have to face testifying. I'm happy with the big settlement though.

I’m not sure their base would even care if there was a trial and Fox lost. This series of lying really began when Fox called the Arizona election for Biden. They were deluged with angry calls from viewers. The executives panicked because people were leaving them for Newsmax. They had alienated Trump supporters, their ratings were rapidly decreasing and their stock price was going down. When Trump began screaming about election fraud, Fox executives decided they need to jump on that bandwagon to get their viewers back from Newsmax. (All of this was revealed in the discovery process.) This is what their viewers want; they don’t care if they’re fed lies.

In general I agree, but if FOX were required to make statements regularly admitting that they knew they were spouting lies, each and everyone of them, the message would change some of their listeners. A while back, thinking CNN, maybe not.. paid people to watch information and they did comprehend the misinformation they had heard and made changes ... Sorry I am forgetting the details.

This is what I came to post and got waylaid... I was not thinking a cut of dollars, but surely the support we gave them we needed it back to save our country! Elie Mystal, a justice correspondent for The Nation, opined that "I think the reason this is disappointing is that Dominion gets $787.5 million dollars. But we, the people who supported them over the lies and misinformation spread by Fox... get nothing. I'd feel better if I got a cut. Instead. I just get more of Tucker Carlson's smirking face."www.rawstory.com/the-emasculation-of-fox-news-internet-reacts-to-787-5-million-dominion-defamation-settlement/I am so glad Dominion got the dollars, but their company may never ever recover regardless how much they win... They got an apology. We didn't. Nor did the FOX listeners, and we deserved for them to be told that too.

Although I do understand why Dominion settled.... The lawyers' job was to protect Dominion and get the monies! Had they won by jury there could have been years of appeals all the way to SCOTUS. They could have ended up with nada. $800 million in pocket today worth far more . *** It cost Fox News nearly $800 million to settle a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems, but that’s a pittance compared to what it cost American democracy.*** That’s according to The Daily Beast’s Wajahat Ali, who contends that Dominion had a chance to strike a blow against a “disinformation network that knowingly promoted conspiracy theories and lies about the voting company’s role in the 2020 election.” "The Daily Beast columnist writes that: “Dominion Voting, America’s unexpected fighter for its fledgling democracy, settled its $1.6 billion lawsuit with Fox and decided to step out of the ring with a bag of money instead of vanquishing one of the country’s most destructive and influential peddlers of hate and disinformation. Fox News acknowledged some wrongdoing in a statement announcing the Dominion settlement, saying that it acknowledged “the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false.” But Ali argues that, although weakened by the lawsuit, the right-wing network remains capable of “being a platform for white nationalist talking points—and is free to double down on its attack on our democracy, marginalized communities, the environment, and the truth.”www.rawstory.com/dominion-settlement-a-setback/

Dominion has may more cases to go. In fact, Dominion v Newsmax same court house, same judge. They also have OAN, Giuliani, Powell, pillow guy, and whoever else. Just heard someone say Dominion might let one of the small cases go through trial.
